Do you think Camilla will be Queen or Consort?

Obviously when the time comes. But it will.
I keep reading different opinions about whether Camilla will be called Queen or Consort.
Personally, I think she should be calléd Queen. It goes with her position. As I understand it, Philip was called Consort because otherwise as King, he would have outranked the Queen. That would not have been okay. But if Camilla is called Queen, she will not outrank Charles as King.
I know none of us knows whether she will be called Queen or Consort. But what do you think should happen?

@Enko

Adding reasoning. The only reason why she would not be queen is due to her being a divorce. Many will speak of Diana but Diana has been dead many years now and would not have become Queen as she and Charles were divorced.

I think after the many years Charles and camilla has been married she absolutely should be crowned as Queen alongside King Charles. After all Anne Boelyn became Queen of England with a divorced husband so if it was good enough for Henry why not his descendants Smile

Anne Boleyn absolutely wasn’t divorced and had not married previously she was executed on the grounds of infidelity and not having been pure when she married Henry but as one of the supposed lovers was her own brother who was also executed because of it, they were all fabricated to allow Henry to marry Jane Seymour.

And if your meaning Henry was divorced his marriage was annulled on the reason that Kathryn of Aragon had been married to his brother Arthur. That has no impact on any future wives being called queen as they were married to the king

It would be much simpler to call all monarchs King and all consorts Queen. Grin

Well aware of the history around that and at the time of marriage Henry and Katherine's marriage had not been annulled by the pope and this was why Henry had to create the church of England. So yes I woild very much argue that Henry was a divorcee. The only one who gets a pass om is Jane Seymour who died and by the time he married Anne of Cleveland Katherine of Aragon had died so he had no x wives alive. Then off course he didn't fancy Anne so "annulled that relationship..

Remember how there was a fudge with Diana that she was allowed to be called "Diana, The Princess of Wales" but not "Princess Diana". There might be a similar thing that Camilla can be referred to as Queen in a sentence like "The King and Queen of England attended a reception at the White House" but she can't be actually called "Queen Camilla"
They will not be the 'King and Queen of England'

Princess Consort was suggested as a compromise due to the sensitivities around Diana. Times have changed, however- the number of people still angry about Diana is very small (despite the recent films and TV show) and Camilla is an accepted part of our national life and works hard in her role. It seems petty not to give her the title of Queen Consort.

Your historical knowledge is accurate but it’s relevance to this thread is non existent. Henry’s marital status was largely irrelevant, by the law of the land at the time, however controversial, he was free to marry and as king his wife was queen. The purpose of this thread is whether camilla should be known as Queen. Charles status as a divorcee is not relevant to this he will be king so she will be queen, but due to the controversy surrounding their affair and Diana’s death and her status as a divorcee (although I feel that is becoming increasingly irrelevant) she may and probably will choose to style herself differently.

That wasn't a 'fudge' - it's the same for anyone who isn't born as a princess but has become one by marriage. Kate, for example, is not known as 'Princess Catherine'. Princesses by marriage are known either by alternative titles (as in Duchess of Cambridge for Kate) or by their husband's name (as in Princess Michael of Kent).

Likewise, Diana was never officially styled 'Princess Diana' - she was HRH, Diana Princess of Wales, and after her divorce, just Diana, Princess of Wales.

They will not be the 'King and Queen of England'

Arguably they wouid be, when in England and doing things that pertain to England only. Because they are King Queen of England, also Wales, Scotland, NI and it's wrong to just overlook the other parts of UK

In a similar vein, the UK diplomatic service uses bags inscribed Her Britannic Majesty, in order to show that it's Britain only for that activity, and that being Britain-only is the 'other' that needs specifying when there is actual justification for it.

It wouid of course be utterly wrong during a trip to the White House. Even if invited as British (not just English) monarch, it's wrong to exclude the other realms and dominions
