It is more delaying tactics.

Roussette · 05/11/2021 14:52

More delaying tactics whilst PA's legal bills mount up day by day

In the fullness of time, I wonder if that is something that will have to be reported on in the yearly Royal Report/Budget every summer. That could be interesting. Or will the RF do their best to hide what this is costing...

Serenster · 05/11/2021 17:02

No listed company is required to disclose legal costs for individual matters in their accounts, so there is no good reason why the Royal family should disclose it (there is also a potential argument that the details of legal costs in a particular matter could be privileged information).

Roussette · 05/11/2021 17:09

But the RF have to disclose any number of things because of who they are, they're unique aren't they...
And if the Queen is taking it from DoL...

I live in hope Grin

joangray38 · 05/11/2021 17:30

Well finding this out made me write a will - if you die interstate without relatives it goes to the duchy of Lancaster (where I live). I wouldn’t want my money to finance anything like this. I can see PC doing the same with PH on the next few years too.

Serenster · 05/11/2021 17:58

The disclosure rules that listed companies must comply with are far more demanding than any disclosure obligations in the public service, sorry Roussette. Also, you couldn’t request this information via a FOIA request because it will (genuinely) fall under one of the various exemptions.

They might have to disclose any provision they make to pay a settlement sum to Ms Guiffre in the annual accounts for this year, if it helps? Although entirely depends on how they intend to fund it.

JoanGray38 it’s true that estates where no beneficiary can be located (not just those where there is no will, there are rules determining how that works and generally the estate goes to children then parents then siblings etc) notionally go to the Crown (or the Duchy of Lancaster or Cornwall, if the deceased lives there). But that doesn’t mean it goes into the royal family’s pocket.

The Treasury Solicitor administers the estates that fall into this category other than in Lancaster and Cornwall, where the Duchy takes on that task. All of them publish an annual account. In 2021, for example £38 million from this activity was transferred by the Treasury Solicitor to the Treasury Consolidated Fund (the government’s general bank account, essentially). The moneys from Lancaster and Cornwall are donated to local charities (published, and annual amounts donated are also published in the annual accounts).

It might also be useful to know that most countries in the world have a similar system under which property and bank accounts etc end up reverting to the government - something needs to be done about the property of someone that dies with no relatives at all!

Interesting!

I'll be looking out for that as you can imagine next June - if it happens. Grin

I wonder what happened to all Epsteins zillions and his property.

Roussette · 05/11/2021 19:18

Being paid out to victims hopefully!

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 05/11/2021 19:25

Very funny.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 05/11/2021 19:26

Yes Roussette there is a compensation fund. I found a really good article on politico.com, I will try and find the link tomorrow.

Roussette · 05/11/2021 19:27

Please do, I'd be interested in reading that Smile

Roussette · 06/11/2021 07:56

What an interesting article Church

summed up by this...
'the Epstein saga offers an extreme—and still evolving—example of how complex questions of responsibility can get in cases of sexual abuse'
And it's not unusual for sex traffickers to enlist their victims as recruiters to protect themselves from legal jeopardy.

Really worth reading.

CathyorClaire · 06/11/2021 11:14

That's exactly what it means. No amount of PR posturing alters the basics..

The moneys from Lancaster and Cornwall are donated to local charities (published, and annual amounts donated are also published in the annual accounts)

Charities Charles alone gets to pick and choose all the while retaining a hefty sum 'in reserve' in the event of a long lost relative surfacing.

Here we are in the 21st Century and people think it's OK to endorse a feudal throwback just because the royals lob a couple of bones to charity.

OverByYer · 15/11/2021 21:11

The GM trial started today….

CathyorClaire · 15/11/2021 21:15

And Andrew has been pictured gurning at the wheel of one of his luxury jalopies and horse riding round Windsor...

OverByYer · 15/11/2021 21:18

I hope he’s bricking it

Roussette · 15/11/2021 21:22

Yes, it's jury selection time...

OverByYer · 15/11/2021 21:24

I’m very excited about this. I think she will throw everyone under the bus. She has nothing to lose.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 15/11/2021 21:26

He's a vile man but theres something about virginia that doesn't ring true. She just comes across as strange. I also don't think Ghislaine stands a chance of a fair trial.

Roussette · 15/11/2021 21:27

Especially after all this time in a NY jail.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s legal team have worries over her performance in front of a jury after dummy panels found her “wholly unlikeable”, a source close to her lawyers has said.

The feedback has caused such concern in the British ex-socialite’s camp they have allegedly held talks over brokering a deal with prosecutors.

“After showing them videos and coverage of the case, the dummy jurors were asked to give feedback.

“They described her as ‘wholly unlikeable’. They thought she was ‘arrogant’ and ‘suspicious’ while ‘lacking credibility’.”

She is not due in court until 2 weeks today but will it happen if she goes for a deal?

And ITV have commissioned a documentary about her.

OverByYer · 15/11/2021 21:30

That’s interesting Rousette. The DM made a big deal about her newly dyed hair, speculating she must have bought it from the prison shop for $9. All sounds very OITNB

upinaballoon · 16/11/2021 07:36

@Roussette

No idea how anyone who was compis mentis could not have known what was going on in JE's NY mansion

A female human real life chessboard in the entrance hall, a montage of women's breasts up the stairs, massage tables etc.
Really,??

As for 'slutty girls' from PAs defence....well, it's a known tactic to besmirch a witness who's accusing you isn't it??

Lots of people went to JE's NY mansion, including Charles Althorp and Naomi Campbell, if the contents of his black book list are true. I couldn't be bothered to read down to Z. I think you wrote this post as a response to mine, because I had heard Alastair Campbell on radio say that he had been there and didn't see anything dodgy. Well, perhaps Alastair Campbell is not compos mentis, although he seemed to be, last week on TV.

Do you know the exact dates when this female human real life chessboard in the entrance hall and the montage came into existence and stopped existing?

Do you think that every single person who went there, went for sexual servicing?

I don't think that they all did.

Yes, of course it's a well-known tactic to try to discredit your opponent.

Have you ever done jury service, where the arguments for and against are both put forward, whatever the counsels for prosecution or defence privately believe?

It isn't unhealthy to throw all the possibilities into the arena, for discussion and consideration.

Roussette · 16/11/2021 08:01

upinaballon Welcome back to the thread.
I may well have been replying to you, it was weeks ago, so I really am not sure.

Do you know the exact dates when this female human real life chessboard in the entrance hall and the montage came into existence and stopped existing?

No, I don't. I wasn't his interior designer!

Nowhere have i said that everyone who went to his Mansion went for sexual servicing. Where did you get that from? He had a Financial business to run, there would have been others there in other contexts. And of course security staff, and those operating the cameras set up in all the rooms Grin

Yes, of course it's a well-known tactic to try to discredit your opponent

Yes I agree.

What has whether I have done jury service got to do with this thread... Hmm

I'm just following what's going on, that's all.

Yesterday was the start of jury selection which is something quite alien to us in the UK. I am following another trial at the moment (Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes) and learnt more about how it happens, it's fascinating.

In the Maxwell trial, 600 filled out pre trial questionnaires, which is wheedled down to 231 to go forward to jury selection Shock
