No mention of Lilibet on Royal Family website

The royal family's website - Royal.uk - says that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have one child , Archie. I find this extraordinary. You'd think they have the staff to update a website. Are there any informed royal watchers out there who could explain this? Does a new addition to the family need to be introduced to the Queen before he/she is acknowledged?

Who cares? She was born in America and likely will grow up there. I don’t think she should be on the LoS at all based on those things

Considering how many of the ancestors of the Royal Family were born in Germany, Corfu, etc., I think the sniffing at her American birth is rather funny.

mathanxiety · 19/07/2021 04:35

When they say the creed Anglicans (C of E) say, "We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church", but they are not Roman Catholics, and I have had it all explained to me once but I can't remember it all!

That's catholic with a lower case c.

The word catholic means 'universal'

The RC church also uses the Apostles Creed (also the Nicene) and the word is capitalised in the Apostles Creed but not in the Nicene.

BadgerB · 19/07/2021 08:52

I had it explained to me too, many years ago - "The C of E is both catholic & protestant. Those terms are not opposites. The opposite of catholic is heretic; the opposite of protestant is papist.

smilesy · 19/07/2021 10:13

“Catholic” is an adjective which means “including a wide variety of things, all embracing” so the Catholic Church includes all Christian faiths, strictly speaking. Obviously, it doesn’t quite work like this in practice 😀

I spent twenty years living in the USA and in my experience christenings are not a thing over there at all. Some denominations go in for infant baptism but that's not very common in general. Again, this is purely my anecdotal experience. My inlaws are incredibly religious (evangelicals) and they don't christen or baptise babies in the family.

Based on my experiences it seems unlikely they would bother christening her in the States where it's not really a custom and let's be honest, neither H or M are the types to be found at church on Sundays (no judgement, I'm not religious myself).

Cynically I think having her christened at Windsor in the bosom of the monarchy, with official photos of the family fake-smiling together through gritted teeth, would serve their purposes very well and again remind the world that they are "real" royalty still.

If they do (they will!) get her christened at Windsor I hope it can be a truly private and quiet affair. I truly wish them well and hope they remain wealthy in California but they quit the royal family, so could they please just get on with things without popping their heads up over here every couple of months to declare their "royalness".

Viviennemary · 19/07/2021 10:21

This getting christened not only at Windsor but with the Queen present is nothing but an attempt to gain publicity and fodder for their money making schemes.

upinaballoon · 19/07/2021 11:19

Would Lilibet be able to become Queen if a lot of people died AND she had been baptized C.of E.? Yes, I know I'm pushing it a bit with that question.
I have no idea whether this baptism in Windsor is on the cards or not, and I know Harry wanted out of the life and the "toxic press" but he is steeped in Englishness, having been born here and grown up here. He might miss certain aspects of life here, if not many. If his motives were absolutely decent or absolutely disgraceful I can see why he might want Lili baptised over here, like all the rest of the family. (I looked it up again and Woman and Home is saying that the Daily Mail said etc.! and also calling the OW interview "tell-all", which drives me to swear words because they didn't tell all.)

Rainbunny · 19/07/2021 11:45

I think Lilibet is eighth in line for the throne (pushing Andrew one place further away, oh dear...)

I'm pretty sure there will be a Windsor christening, H&M seem very protective of enforcing their children's places in the RF and basically their brand is inextricably intertwined with them being royals, so they'll need to keep engaging in royal ceremonies to keep that royal brand connection going.

The interesting question is if the RF will issue a public family christening photo or not? I can see William wanting to keep it a private family event because from his perspective, this won't be a mainstream, formal royal event furthering the brand of the RF itself and he may be suspicious of H&M trying to publicise the event for their own PR purposes.

Totally disagree

They have had their firstborn christened, should they just ignore they have a second child and not christen her because there's an element of people who for some bizarre reason don't like it?

Why should one child be treated differently to the other.

Also, the story seems to be a nothing made up by the DFail and its ilk.

CallmeHendricks · 19/07/2021 13:50

I love your eternal optimism, @Roussette.

It has been reported that Prince William was not happy at all the cloak-and-dagger stuff around Archie's birth, that left the Palace looking bloody stupid. If any of that extended to the Christening (e.g. the refusal to let it be known who Archie's godparents are - I don't know of anyone anywhere who keeps that info under wraps), then I could understand it if there is reluctance from certain quarters this time around.

Roussette · 19/07/2021 14:27

Hendricks I am a glass half full person!

Tealightsandd · 19/07/2021 18:39

I'm incredibly surprised if it's true. We now have the highest Covid infection rates in the world - and we're doing all that we can to produce a world and vaccine beating mutation.

Tealightsandd · 19/07/2021 18:39

It's far safer in California.

smilesy · 19/07/2021 18:45

Not sure about that. Cases are going up in California too 😀

Oh FGS, it's clearly clickbait from the tabloids. Must you believe everything the Mail writes?
Tealightsandd · 19/07/2021 22:39

America has just updated it's travel information to designate the UK as a very high risk destination. Travel to the UK is advised against.

JustLyra · 24/07/2021 00:21

If the Christening is held in America then she'd be the highest child in the line of succession to not be christened in the royal gown/replacement gown for a long time.

There's not a chance the RF will allow that to leave the country.

Viviennemary · 24/07/2021 09:14

With the latest news it's being reported that they are unlikely to return for the jubilee so can't see a christening at Windsor. I must say I never thought he'd sell out his family and turn on them to this degree.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:17

Hopefully the RF will be wound down anyway once the Queen dies and only a very few will still have royal status.

Viviennemary · 24/07/2021 09:28

I agree. Charles wants a slimmed down monarchy. So it will quite suit him not to have to fund Harry. And William will have the Duchy of Cornwall which brings in a fortune.

I really hope this happens. I'll have respect for Charles if he manages to do this.
Port1aCastis · 24/07/2021 09:37

All this christening rubbish is clearly more tabloid bullshit, any chance to have a pop at H&M and they and online trolls will take it. Nobody knows if the baby is christened or not or even if her parents want her christened.
Wonder which paper or magazine will invent further bollocks tomorrow.
Sad really!

Roussette · 24/07/2021 09:46

@Port1aCastis

Totally agree. What people don't realise is... when there is no news on H&M, the tabloids just make it up! It's happened time and time again

They know it generates clicks, so they just have to come up with something.

Then people on here and elsewhere take it as gospel and off we go again.

I doubt H&M are the slightest bit worried about that. As any other parents would do, they will choose the christening for Lili that is best for her and the family. As Portia says, it could've already happened.
Don't worry on the christening gown, they won't be flogging it on Ebay Hmm

SueSaid · 24/07/2021 09:52

'Wonder which paper or magazine will invent further bollocks tomorrow.'

Hmm, H's multi book deal perhaps with one only allowed to be published after the Queen's death?! I mean, that must be bollocks right because otherwise it would be absolutely crass and not in their fake spirit of #bekind and #LoveAlwaysWins tbh.
