The royal family's website - Royal.uk - says that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have one child , Archie. I find this extraordinary. You'd think they have the staff to update a website. Are there any informed royal watchers out there who could explain this? Does a new addition to the family need to be introduced to the Queen before he/she is acknowledged?

They have to have at the very least authorised a close friend to pass on information for FF. It contains details only Harry and Meghan would know, so they've either been passed on directly or by someone close who was given the ok to do so.

How is the 'updated edition' meant to work? Will people who bought it first time just have to fork out again? Will the Kindle edition automatically update or will another payment be required? Reminds me of that 'milk the fans' trick back in the days of CDs (look them up, kids) where an act would put out a new deluxe version of their album a year later and you'd pay again for the same thing with three extra tracks, one a remix and one instrumental Smile

Well... it's not like there aren't a plethora of books out there about them, there's loads of them by the likes of Lady Colin Campbell, Andrew Morton, numerous 'writers' I've never heard of...anyone else who fancies making a bit of money.

So? Don't see how it's relevant
Roussette · 27/07/2021 16:04

I don't see how it's irrelevant? You talked of 'milking the fans', updating of books etc. I said there's lots of books out there already that would fit into that category.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/07/2021 16:07

Have the books you mentioned been released twice as updated editions, then?

Roussette · 27/07/2021 16:12

Not that I know of... who knows... I'm sure some of them have updated versions, too many of them to check, and better things to do with my time, but...

As always Skip you are correct and I am in the wrong.

smilesy · 27/07/2021 16:17

It is surely an unusual thing to do to “update” a book in this way? I can’t think of another example. Usually, if there is more to say, a whole new book is written. This is coming across more like a magazine serialisation. Very odd.

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/07/2021 16:24

As far as I can see OS has not announced the updated book on Twitter . Embarrassed?

SallyLockheart · 27/07/2021 16:26

I think it is unusual to update a book just a year later. Books do get updated but after a longer time period. There is lots of information already out about the miscarriage, philip's death etc so the only way it can be updated is by very personal updates

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/07/2021 16:27

@ smilesy

Nor can I !
I think that the difference with FF is that the authors clearly had details known only to very few (2) people whereas other books such as those written by LCC , we know to take with a large pinch of salt.
I do think Tom Bower’s book could be interesting based on previous work.

Well, you didn't have better things to do with your time than to point out other people have also written books about other people Smile So thought it was worth checking whether it's the whole genre of biography that you don't like or if there was some more specific comparison being made.
Roussette · 27/07/2021 17:05

One short post making a comment versus a lot of time researching any updated versions of books on H&M and/or RF. Yeah rightio.....

I don't understand your last sentence but I only have a tiny brain. Unlike you of course Smile

myrtleWilson · 27/07/2021 17:14

Perhaps its like a part exchange deal.. all FF owners proceed to designated space and hand over copy of FF and OS will hand over the additional chapters/new paragraphs/footnotes as necessary

It's all a bit 'and another thing!!' Isn't it.

Like I say, H's making a fool of himself, trashing any remaining credibility he had colluding with such trashy nonsense. Poor Scobie though! you'd think they'd have let him in on their plan before he also made a fool of himself with his Tweet 🤭.

Serenster · 27/07/2021 18:39

I don’t think it is that unusual to re-issue a book with additional content? Robert Lacey’s recent book “The Battle of the Brothers” was recently re-published with 12 new chapters, and a couple of books I have bought were re-issued with a “bonus” chapter when the paperback was published. The latter I am sure is just a gimmick to give the publishers a new angle to use to promote it (the authors and publishers are American though, maybe it’s more of a thing there?).

Anyway, amusingly Omid has now clarified. He was miffed because the paper described him as writing more chapters, but it’s an “epilogue”, actually. How very dare they. Grin (Oh yes, and of course it won’t widen the rift, or so he claims…)

Prince Philip’s death , Megan’s miscarriage , the OW interview , Lili’s birth is a lot to pack into a “ short statement

smilesy · 27/07/2021 18:55

It’s not so much just that he has added new stuff, it’s more the short space of time that has lapsed between this and the original. Usually an update takes a few years to materialise. 🤷‍♀️ If I’d bought it , I’d be really annoyed that I needed to buy it again so soon iyswim.

smilesy · 27/07/2021 18:56

And an update usually means a whole new book

Billandben444 · 27/07/2021 19:02

I would think that if MM's miscarriage is covered then that would confirm her involvement in the book. Surely only those with insider knowledge would know more than that it happened?

PurpleOkapi · 27/07/2021 22:01

I do feel a bit sorry for Scobie. It's apparent from reading Finding Freedom that Meghan cooperated with it extensively. (Harry may not have, and may still believe Meghan when she swears she didn't.) Meghan knew she couldn't just go out and publish a memoir to 'set the record straight' while remaining a working royal, so she got Scobie to do it for her while retaining plausible deniability as to her own involvement. Scobie, of course, was happy to oblige - he's made plenty of money off of it. But now Harry and Meghan have caught on that no one can stop them from writing whatever they want under their own names, so they don't need Scobie anymore. If he was planning on their cooperation for his epilogue-that-totally-isn't-a-new-chapter, he's probably starting to worry.

I don't feel sorry for him at all, he calls himself a Royal reporter, but it's so obvious that he's all for Meghan and Harry, which is his right to do so, but just by retweeting everything the Royal family put out, it's a bit much to call yourself a Royal reporter. Although there seem to be lots of Royal reporters about Grin

Meghan admitted in court (Daily Mail court case) that she allowed a friend to pass on information to OS, but that neither her nor H provided any information directly.

PurpleOkapi · 27/07/2021 22:59

Oh, and if anyone remembers me saying on another thread that Scobie was playing word games with what amounted to an untrue denial of Finding Freedom v.2, this was the sort of thing I meant.

True, but that was a point on which she changed her case - at first she denied any involvement with the book. And it became clear from one of the judgements that Omid Scobie was extremely close to her legal team, tweeting out extracts of her documents minutes after they had been electronically filed with the court (and which were not publicly available).

This. Having read FF, it is definitely written from MM perspective and has a lot of incredibly personal details.
