Well Harry is looking quite good. Suntanned and healthy. The glow of new parent perhaps. Just seen his video on Diana awards and he looked so happy when visiting Wellchild too.

I'm sure his charities were happy to keep in touch with him.

smilesy maybe you're right! They did work together quite a few years ago on a speech/chat for World Mental Health Day back in 2019.

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 08:19

@Marmaladeagain

- he's a Prince - used to not paying as such - things are done around them - joke, but along the lines of how he comes across -transactional.

Charity in US pays well - here it's not glamorous and can't add to personal wealth in same way it does in US, it is part of US system of philanthropic wealth planning.

Not sure who the friends or family clamouring to see Harry several times a year will be? Perhaps he is required to be about 4 times a year outside of Covid but he's heading back home to US soon. Hopefully, all civil tomorrow.

It's odd to have a US person flying in to do UK get the photos at the charity for the day job and the celebrity "friends" at the event wouldn't have had any choice but to be in photos with the photographer that Harry took along with him for his Netflix etc.

I wonder if Ed is happy to be used for H's self-promotion of having UK "friends"? Bit awkward if it was such a secret and no-one knew he was going tonight? Imagine Ed going, yeah sorry I hadn't returned your calls yet...just been busy sanitising my hands etc.

I'd imagine anyone that was previously friends would not want to get involved and keep a polite distance from the mess - it was tumbleweed as regards various opportunities for "congratulations" from UK friends.

Ah ok so you made it up! Thanks for clearing that up.
Mummy194 · 01/07/2021 08:21

Oh yes, I remember that. it was the Gingers Unite joke.

There is going to be one pool journalist, apparently.

queenofarles · 01/07/2021 08:39

Forever Harry didn’t pay his Las Vegas hotel bill. Years later Steve Wynn paid for it. He also refused to pay Cressidas flight ticket to the US while they were dating.

@queenofarles I hadn’t heard that. Do you have a link to it being reported? And was it reported in the daily mail or an actual newspaper?
ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 08:47

@queenofarles ah I googled and it’s the good old daily mail and it actually says

Katie Nicholl, who wrote Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, said that the billionaire owner of the hotel, Steve Wynn, simply waived the bill when the Prince went to settle it.

So not that he refused to or didn’t pay and it had to be paid later.

Turns out the queen mother also racked up sizeable debts if we are to believe anything of this article.

smilesy · 01/07/2021 08:54

@ForeverAintEnough3 I googled these two stories too and you are correct that the hotel story was in the Sun, the Mirror and Metro. However, the story about Cressida and the flight ticket was also in the Telegraph and others.

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 08:57

@smilesy so 7 years ago Harry’s girlfriend didn’t want to spend hundreds on a flight over to see him as their relationship was ok the verge of breaking up and Harry also didn’t want to pay hundreds for a flight for his girlfriend if they were doomed to breakup. Somehow years later then this means Harry only visits a charity so he can claim money off them. Okkaaayyy

I think it was to attend the wedding of one of Harry's friends. It was reported that this was what tipped Cressida over the edge and she called off their relationship. Although who truly knows what goes on!

It's a joke because he has a reputation for not being very generous

Really? In all the years I've paid any attention to Harry, I've never heard that one.
Not in press, not on Twitter, not anywhere.

I think usually Royal Patrons do one event/interaction with each organisation each year. Just because you haven’t read about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Samcro · 01/07/2021 09:21

i have not heard this either, can you do a link please.

Roussette · 01/07/2021 09:23

'A story' sums it up. Just a story. I cannot imagine the Asutralia 'story' holds any credence whatsoever.

He's paying for his security, so don't worry on that one.

But I'm confused... where has he said he wants to live like 'a Hollywood star who's made it'?

This is all just made up nonsense. He talked about security, it was quashed, end of.

Roussette · 01/07/2021 09:26

Absolutely NOT.

Read this link. 74% royal patronage charities did not get any visits in one given year. For others, it has been far longer than a year. Even 8 years for one charity.
The article will take some reading, but it's not hearsay, its validated research.

Samcro · 01/07/2021 09:43

the duchess of Cornwall seems good. she has visited dd's old school as recently as 2019.

smilesy · 01/07/2021 09:46

@ForeverAintEnough3 I just put the link up because you asked if their were any in a “real” newspaper as you put it. I was not saying it meant anything in terms of it meaning he should not visit a charity. That’s a bit of a stretch. In fact I was not commenting at all. I just provided a link. I’m also not keen on being sneery just because something is in the DM. I’m not a fan of that paper but it is not automatically wrong every time it publishes something or puts out an opinion. I try, as other posters have said they do, to look at a range of sources.

queenofarles · 01/07/2021 10:23

Those of you questioning the Las Vegas hotel bill, I can assure you it’s not the first time something like this happens, royalty , celebs do this sort of thing, usually they are expecting someone to pick the bill ,when no one does , they’d stall till the hotel agrees to reduce the bills, sometimes it can go on for years.
And I’m sorry but if someone posted on MN that her boyfriend refuses to pay her plane ticket to attend his friends wedding they’d be questioning her sanity Wink

Serenster · 01/07/2021 11:05

Honestly Rousette, that link you gave above is such rubbish.

It states: “In this video, it transpires that Kate hasn’t visited one of her patronee charities for eight years” which you then faithfully parrot in your own post. The link to the video (on a website called Designerzcentral quotes a tweet from someone cited as @sussexdetective - both obviously very well known for their objective, fact-based reporting Hmm ). The charity referred to is Action on Addiction.

I have twice clarified when this is bought up on threads that this is absolute rubbish (I’ll can go and find it if you like, since you obviously haven’t bothered to read them), and listed the many, many engagements Kate has in fact done with this charity in the last 9 years.

Kate hadn’t visited the particular site she was zooming in that call (Clouds House Treatment Cnetre in Wiltshire) since 2012. Action on Addiction has several centres around the UK, and as they make clear on their own website, she has visited them all.

Serenster · 01/07/2021 11:06

@Roussette “validated research” you say??

Samcro · 01/07/2021 11:17

@Serenster doesn't that just prove most links are rubbish.
anyone can google and nearly always find a link that backs up what they are saying.

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 11:18

I’m sure it does happen with celebs but actually the reported story is that when he went to settle the bill while staying there it was settled by this Steve Wynn guy. So what you’ve said is completely incorrect.

Yes if someone posted that on mumsnet the advice would be a resounding LTB. Now let’s see what happened with Chelsea Davy hmmm oh yeah she dumped him

@smilesy sorry I wasn’t directing that at you it was at @Marmaladeagain who was saying he is ‘known’ for being tight when really there’s no evidence of that at all. Just another story about the royals made up by people who know nothing about them.

Serenster · 01/07/2021 11:19

Which is why I always look to primary sources @Samcro, and don’t just post anything willy-nilly because it supports the angle I’m pushing.
