Harry in the UK

Well Harry is looking quite good. Suntanned and healthy. The glow of new parent perhaps. Just seen his video on Diana awards and he looked so happy when visiting Wellchild too.

I'm sure his charities were happy to keep in touch with him.

it was reported that Harry only stayed for 20 minutes are the ceremony - that suggests that things aren't that great. if you've flown over from the US, been in covid isolation and haven't seen family and friends for over a year apart from a family funeral, you would surely stay longer for a chat with those people? William and Harry may well have met up to talk at some other time but that's not long to circulate at the event afterwards?

ajandjjmum · 05/07/2021 08:09

@Samcro

imo it didn't take the focus off his mother. both brothers seemed fine. its everyone else who seems to be looking for a bit fall out.
Grin I don't think there's much doubt that there's been a bit of a fall out! I thought the two Princes seemed pretty much their normal selves, but the fact that 'everyone' was looking for tension took the focus off Diana - but that's only my opinion. Smile
CharityDingle · 05/07/2021 09:04

Other members of the family are probably wary of meeting with Harry, individually, for chats, in case whatever was said, (or indeed not said) gets splashed all over the media, or makes for another appearance with Oprah.

I agree.
When I watched all the footage, I did think to myself, at least no one can complain about this... they look fine. William was more formal but that was it... it goes with this position.

Yet... on here... Harry smiled too much, Harry acted the clown, William wasn't happy, blah blah blah...
Yet to me, I saw no problem especially as it wasn't about them, it was about their Mum.

Exactly. There does seem to be talk of Archewell not getting off the ground. And they might have to come back to the UK. I can't see how they can generate anything like the amount of money they need for their present lifestyle.

Roussette · 05/07/2021 13:26

Where's that 'talk'?

StormzyinaTCup · 05/07/2021 13:43

If it doesn't take off for them stateside it's going to be very awkward if they ever want to come back to U.K. as a couple (I think it would be an absolute last resort tbh). They went for scorched earth and have pretty much burnt all their bridges this side of the pond. Probably best all round for them to make their life in the US whatever happens with Archewell etc.

smilesy · 05/07/2021 13:49

@Roussette in the Express there is a headline about Archewell not getting off the ground, but if you read beyond the headline the suggestion is that this has happened because of the pandemic. I would add, though, that not a lot seems to be happening. The Spotify podcast was 7 months ago and now HaM are reportedly taking 5 months leave. There has been no Netflix content for a while either. I know there is an Invictus documentary coming up but nothing else as far as I can see. The website is full of nothing if you look at it 🤷‍♀️

goldierocks · 05/07/2021 13:52

I personally got a vibe very similar to the 2020 Commonwealth Day service. Harry was outwardly more expressive whereas William was serious/reserved.

There was a recent article by Richard Fitzwilliams regarding Archewell. I believe this was prompted by the recent hire of a new Head of Audio to produce the Archewell podcast. It has been suggested (no reliable sources) that Spotify want more for their £18 million than the 35 minutes of content they've received so far.

New head of Archewell Audio

Roussette · 05/07/2021 13:52

Thanks for info smilesy
Yes, well... Covid has bitten everything hasn't it... I'm sure it will have affected them and their plans too. And then new baby etc, so who knows. I think their life is in the US and they'll thrive in their own way, whatever they do!

CallmeHendricks · 05/07/2021 14:05

I hope their projects with Archewell and Netflix etc do take off, I really do. I just hope that they can do so without dragging Harry's family through the mud any further. Regardless of who's in the right or wrong (probably a bit of both) it really leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth to listen to.
And of course, it also means in reality that they will probably be unable to settle in the UK ever again. I don't suppose Meghan has any desire to, and at the moment Harry probably doesn't either, but he may want to spend at least some time here in future. I can't see Archie and Lili being able to forge any sort of meaningful relationship with their British cousins, which is a huge shame.

queenofarles · 05/07/2021 14:11

I just hope that they can do so without dragging Harry's family through the mud any further. it’s a bit too late for that I think, OW is probably their "bring out the big guns" moment.

CallmeHendricks · 05/07/2021 14:37

You may be right. They have had time to see the fallout of what they've said so far, and it's been ugly. It would be even worse if they divulge more, and I don't actually think they got the overwhelming response they were expecting. Any more reveals, and I think the tide of public opinion (and with it, Netflix deals) will turn even more against them.

Nanasueathome · 05/07/2021 14:50

There’s a thread running about Archewell
Archewell: compassion in action
Very interesting

BadgerB · 05/07/2021 15:31

It was said beforehand that each brother would make a short speech, a tribute to their mother.

I have read (sorry can't remember where so can't vouch for reliability) that H had a speech prepared but refused to submit it to be looked over by the Palace staff. The result being that neither made a speech. Sad, if true.
Maybe they feared the more educated member of the Sussex family had written it...

Oldbutstillgotit · 05/07/2021 15:38

I read something similar . I think the joint statement was best in the circumstances.

Oldbutstillgotit · 05/07/2021 15:40

I also read ( again no idea if it is true) that the reason Catherine wasn’t there was because H didn’t think it was right for one wife to be there if the other wasn’t.

BadgerB · 05/07/2021 15:45

Catherine is a working member of the RF; Meghan (1) has resigned from that, and (2) she's just had a baby. Oh! and (3) why does she get a say?

smilesy · 05/07/2021 16:03

I can imagine that it must be really draining trying to walk on eggshells around H if any of the above is true. I’ve experienced that and it is utterly soul destroying.

Viviennemary · 05/07/2021 16:27

I read the same. Harry didn't want to be overwhelmed with the Cambridges. Im glad neither of them made a speech
And issued a joint statement instead. I hope they don't return for the jubilee. It will be nothing but who is in what procession, who goes first. Who rides in the best carriage. Who looked glum. Who elbowed who out of the way to get to the front of the balcony.

Maggiesfarm · 05/07/2021 16:35

If there was a way of them coming discreetly, ie no media knew they were getting on a plane, etc, and just turned up at the celebrations, it would be good. However that is unlikely. I hope they come. Things will be better by then, surely. The press will have found other victims.
SallyLockheart · 05/07/2021 16:44

I don’t think anything will be better by September. The Sussex’s are uncompromising in their view that they are victims and have done nothing wrong and if “recollections vary” that is not easy position to reconcile to.

smilesy · 05/07/2021 17:40

They won’t come discreetly though. And even if they did, it would be hard to miss them if they were at the celebrations. As for the press finding other “victims”, maybe they will, but the Sussexes don’t want to be out of the press or under the radar. How would they make money out of that? I would like them to reconcile and for all the fuss to die down, but that seems unlikely to happen in the short term.

Sylvan92 · 05/07/2021 17:56

I really don’t want to see them at the jubilee either. They’ve done so much to embarrass the RF in the last couple of years.
