The royal family

I’m in awe of the Queen

I’m no royalist, I dislike the fawning, particularly towards younger members of the family. Somehow I find myself watching Trooping the Colour and I can’t help but be impressed by the Queen.

She’s 95, very recently widowed following 70 odd years of marriage. She’s just got back from Cornwall and is again on active duty, enjoying this event. I know she’s lived an incredibly pampered life with the best health care, etc. I’m just amazed by her sense of duty and her strength.

OP posts:

Being ancient myself the Queen has always been in my life.; I think she is totally amazing and when she goes the country will be the poorer.

Tlollj · 12/06/2021 12:18

Me too. I think she’s brilliant my role model. I very often think what would the Queen do?
We are really going to miss her. Only then will we realise what we have.

grapewine · 12/06/2021 12:24

I saw the photos from the G7 summit and had similar thoughts. It looked like she was in great spirits.

Bobbiepin · 12/06/2021 12:27

For someone in a position where she could probably do anything she wanted, to dedicate her entire life to service of the country I think is admirable. Being thrust into that role after losing her father, something that was never intended for her; I have a lot of respect for her.

MaBroon21 · 12/06/2021 12:32

She’s absolutely precious.

anon12345678901 · 12/06/2021 12:33

I think she's fantastic. Her strength has really shone through recently.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 12/06/2021 12:42

For a 95 year old - though she's had the benefit of a very, very comfortable life and the best medical care - she is doing outstandingly well. Very resilient.

Did also make me think that if she can do that, not sure why BJ is still apparently incapable of professional behaviour and appearance. I know he makes an affectation of the messy hair but, really, it just looks stupid.

Tlollj · 12/06/2021 13:00

Oh god can you imagine if we had to rely on politicians as role models. Craven avaricious lot.

Bluntness100 · 12/06/2021 13:03

It’s quite astonishing she’s 95. I mean, 95, no matter how good the health care, she’s doing astonishingly well, she really has dedicated her life to this, as she said she would, rightly or wrongly.

upinaballoon · 12/06/2021 13:27

Precisely. She has better "almost everything" than I do in life but I do not believe that she is "better" than I am or than you are, and I think she understands that. She is higher than I am in the organisation of society in this country and I am happy to accept that and I would curtsey to her any day of the week, out of respect for her role and for her own self. I was once told off by someone for using the words "ordinary people" but I'm going to use them. I think the Queen respects the ordinary people of this country. Does she still keep pigeons? I hope she does.

Sorry, I was saying "Precisely" to your post, thereisonlyoneofme.

I caught a little of The Trooping of the Colour. The Queen was standing watching the procession. I was so impressed, because she’s not as steady as she once was. She looked lovely in her outfit also.

Fuckingcrustybread · 12/06/2021 13:38

I think that she is utterly amazing, she's recently bereaved and has lost her strength and stay, her words. She has had many trials and tribulations recently but still her inner strength shines through.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 12/06/2021 13:41

I agree OP. Looking at her purely as a 95 year old, her mobility and mental agility are incredible.

I truly believe we will be the poorer without her when she does pass on and people will feel incredible grief and should be allowed to. And Mumsnet will be full of anti monarchists on the day of her death posting insensitively and inappropriately about her privilege etc.

TokyoSushi · 12/06/2021 13:46

She's got tea with the Biden's tomorrow and then Ascot next week, she's amazing!

amusedtodeath1 · 12/06/2021 13:47

She's a treasure, still working at 95, recently bereaved. I will be very sad when she is no longer with us.

Eviebeans · 12/06/2021 13:50

I wish I could maintain the same kind of dignity under stress as the Queen

itsgettingwierd · 12/06/2021 13:50

I think she's brilliant.

Such a great role model for woman.

The videos of her at the G7 making quips had me laughing.

I wouldn't want to get in the wrong side of her Grin

PurpleDaisies · 12/06/2021 13:52

In what way is she a “great role model for women”?

Don’t get me wrong, I like the queen but I can never be the queen because I was born into the wrong family. Or should I be aspiring to marry a prince so I can be a royal too?

Deadringer · 12/06/2021 13:53

I am not a royalist or even British and i think she is amazing. Yes she has a mega comfortable life but she could easily just sit back and enjoy that, but instead she works hard and goes way beyond her duties, especially for a women of her age. Long live the Queen.

GreenCrayon · 12/06/2021 13:57

I agree OP. Looking at her purely as a 95 year old, her mobility and mental agility are incredible.

I agree with this sentiment too. When I get older if I'm even a fraction as mobile and mentally agile at her age, should I make it that far, I shall feel very very fortunate.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/06/2021 13:58

She is wonderful!

Chocolatier9 · 12/06/2021 14:03

@PurpleDaisies

I’d say for me it’s because she just bloody gets on with it. I can’t and wouldn’t want to marry a prince but I can and do want to deal with fate as well as the Queen does. Just having the self discipline to get off mumsnet and do the housework would be nice never mind facing the world after losing my husband so recently.

dreamsarefree · 12/06/2021 14:07

She's a great model for women because of the reasons people mention up thread - elderly, recently bereaved, somewhat dysfunctional family situation going on, still working and smiling, behaving with grace and dignity, bringing joy to others Smile

itsgettingwierd · 12/06/2021 14:09

The reasons agreed above.

Plus despite being queen of England a lot of the highest roles are still very often male dominated. Look at the G7. Very few woman there yet she's holding her own and being a dominant force.
