Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.
@VeilofWinterFog totally agree. It's a deeply personal nickname, and with Prince Philip dying there's now no one left to call the Queen by it. For the most estranged of her grandchildren to use it weeks after trashing her parenting and turning his back on everything she stands for is deeply crass and ungracious.

The BBC reporter this morning was saying that the Palace were annoyed that the Sussexes had briefed that the Queen had approved the choice of name. Time the Sussexes were called out on their lies.
You do know that there are lots of Lilibets, Lillibets and Lillibeths? Just look on the free BMDs online. Did they steal the Queen's name? Are they trashing her? Did they ask permission to use it? It's not unique to HRM, it's a first name that lots of people have.

@JinglingHellsBells

There was a very scathing piece on the Editorial page of The Times yesterday on this, so maybe he will 'sue' the Times too.

It's a disgrace IMO.

It was her pet name used by her closest family. It was what Philip called her [maybe they ought to have chosen 'Cabbage' which is evidently her other nickname for her.]

Using a nickname which your recently deceased husband called you for 70 years is beyond crass.

Absolutely this.
JinglingHellsBells · 09/06/2021 14:32

@LivingInThe80s Sorry but we still don't know the 'truth' about who made whom cry! We don't know what is truth and what is lies.

If you do, all credit to your reputable sources.

I do though think actions speak louder than words.
We've seen enough of H & M to make a judgement on them.

antsy · 09/06/2021 14:33

In which case do not lie to the press.
Seriously toxic family.

GorgeousNightingale · 09/06/2021 14:33

@suggestionsplease1

I bet it'll have been a convo something like this:

Harry: "...and we hope to name her Lilibet in your honour..."

Queen "O, I see"

Harry has chosen to interpret it as supportive, but most people wouldn't really call that a consultation or a request for permission.

Unlikley, probably more like

Queen: (stony faced and miserable, and being somewhat passive aggresive) "what a lovely idea"

ajandjjmum · 09/06/2021 14:34

Is there any way a judge could make a ruling that Meghan and Harry are never mentioned again in the UK media. They can have their privacy, and build the brand they want in the US.

And we get some peace.

longwayoff · 09/06/2021 14:34

Baby's name's a brand? Booking seats now for the infringement lawsuits. Cant waitGrin

Serenster · 09/06/2021 14:34

@TheFairyCaravan

While her actual living grandmother, who lives nearby and sees her all the time, didn't get a look in in the naming process. Poor Doria.

Funny how no one said “poor Carole” when Princess Charlotte had Elizabeth and Diana in her name too, wasn’t it?

Probably because Carole Elizabeth Middleton, mother of both Kate and Pippa Charlotte Middleton was quite pleased with her first granddaughter being called Charlotte Elizabeth Diana…
IrmaFayLear · 09/06/2021 14:35

@Iwantcauliflowercheese - your point falls down if Harry is claiming he asked the Queen’s permission. If it was just a random name choice used by thousands then of course he wouldn’t need to speak to the Queen.

OliviaBean · 09/06/2021 14:35

The drama they court is something else. Go enjoy your beautiful children in your beautiful house ffs.

That choice of name after everything they said about the RF was always going to cause drama. Just why would you bother, why don't they just enjoy their lives and just stop.

There most ardent supporters must agree that they bring a lot of drama on themselves. For two people who have said they have been through so much, just why would you continue to go half way to meet trouble, every bloody time.

Port1aCastis · 09/06/2021 14:35

@LivingInThe80s

Good on him! It's high time the scum media were held to account, even though I thought the BBC were one of the good ones. I was clearly wrong. :(
Spot on, manufacturing grubby gossip sells the redtops so journos think they can libel people without challenge, well one got her come uppance yesterday and no doubt others will follow. I used to think well of the bbc but have now changed my mind
Dongdingdong · 09/06/2021 14:35

lightand · 09/06/2021 14:36

I feel so sorry for the Queen.
Imagine being 95 or however old she is, still working in that huge job, husband has recently died, and constant family squabbles or worse, with threats or worse of legal action.

Anyone know any other person still working at 95? Bound to be a few I suppose?

RickiTarr · 09/06/2021 14:36

I think it's because he grew up in that institution that he knows how toxic a lie can be, and how the firm never stood up against lies, and as they say, a lie can travel half way around the world before the truth even gets a chance to get it's shoes on. We know this from the 'Meghan made Kate cry' lie.

I think it is precisely because of his growing up in it that he is determined to be the one to break the cycle.

I would give that interpretation more credence if he & MM got basic facts correct, or even agreed between themselves about basic factual accounts of things, but they don’t. For example, even in a televised interview they differed over how many family conversations concerned their baby/ies’ skin colour, and when the conversation/s happened.

I think what it is is that Harry, like his mum, is more emotional than fact-orientated. If something “feels true” to him, he goes with that. Similarly, MM caused confusion by saying they married three days before their official ceremony. It seems it was unofficial vows, not a wedding, but she decided to regard it as a wedding so she called it a wedding. Cue much confusion.

The palace, OTOH, is full of people paid to be very precise and accurate and avoid untruths or misunderstandings.

Those two styles are bound to collide.

IrmaFayLear · 09/06/2021 14:36

Again, recollections may vary…

TotorosCatBus · 09/06/2021 14:37

I have read that it's customary for some celebrities to trademark their children's names and buy up domain names etc eg Kylie Jenner and Stormi Their children might want the option of creating branded goods and services later.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/06/2021 14:38

And, The Times' headline was Tone-Deaf.

They went on to say there was something opportunistic about using the pet-name of the reigning monarch, whose name was given to her by her father and used by her husband.

It might be worth waiting for the dust to settle before you decide either way @Port1aCastis ?

JudgeJ · 09/06/2021 14:38

@lollipoprainbow

Don't blame him I hope they sue the arse of the daily mail too for their vile articles !!
Maybe someone needs to sue them for misrepresentation during their performance on that woman's programme, they both need to grow up and enjpy the privacy they craved, allegedly.
HareofEasttown · 09/06/2021 14:39

@randomkey123

He and Meghan could start an argument in an empty room and sue it.

Too much money on their hands and too much time.

100pc this. They need to check their privilege, realise how lucky they are, and stop complaining.
Hm2020 · 09/06/2021 14:40

Attention seeking

JinglingHellsBells · 09/06/2021 14:40

@Dongdingdong

I doubt very much they did.

If you actually read what H is supposed to have said, and read between the lines, he's supposedly said to the Queen that he wanted to give his daughter the Queen's name(s).

It is Royal tradition to use / recycle names of other family members, often for historical reasons, but no one has ever used a personal pet name.

He has never said that he asked if he could use Lilibet. (The name she signed the wreath on the D of E's coffin with.)

JudgeJ · 09/06/2021 14:41
@june2021 it's hardly surprising they have registered the child's name and any patents / trademarks etc. More than likely to protect from some random taking control of it and using it for ill purposes. Surely this is standard protocol for any royal kids. Also it can be saved for when the child is an adult and then used by them as and when they wish. It's a form of protecting your intellectual property, probably rather than wanting to sell merchandise or some other such behaviour.
Or maybe that they can maximise their increasingly tenuous connection with the Royal Family,. personally I've always thought that Lillibet sounds like a tampon.

Haydugi · 09/06/2021 14:41

They are bonkers IMO.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/06/2021 14:44

@ChicChaos

The BBC amended their report to include Harry's claim that he did ask, but have also kept in the part that said he didn't as they were advised by their source. The change came after Harry issued a letter via Shillings to the BBC this morning.
This is all going to get a bit difficult as how can the BBC defend their report without revealing sources?
