Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.

Why? It was embarrassing for C&C, but hardly something for the kids to hold against them.

I can think of a number of reasons why but if you would be fine with it, good for you.

BreakingtheIce · 09/06/2021 23:22

I think whoever said they are using the nickname as a brand is right. They’ve branded their child for publicity purposes and sullied something personal and precious in the process. I actually think they would stop at nothing to get what they want. Common decency, tact and good taste don’t come into it with them. It’s crass vulgarity and greed all the way. Along with a desire for revenge.

Goldieloxx · 09/06/2021 23:26

Good, despise the BBC with its right wing agenda and the RF

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/06/2021 23:26

Ah so this is why Harry needs several months paternity leave. To sue the arse off everyone in sight. Ffs.

Personally I think Lili would fine. But choosing a beloved nickname when you’ve trashed the entire family and everything the Queen stands for so publicly is cruel. Idk what these pair are thinking… is this all about monetising the brand?

RickiTarr · 09/06/2021 23:26

It was excruciating, at the time, I’m sure and the tabloids were utter bastards for publishing that tape and the squidgy one. Especially as the adults involved had children in school.

However I am sure Charles’ sons (and Camilla’s children) have been able to contextualise it as adults now, and if they still have issues with him, there are more obvious reasons to do so than the tape.

Lots of people have said equally weird shit in private. It’s not particularly relevant to the parent-child relationship just because it was hacked and released, just awkward as fuck.

paniniswapx3 · 09/06/2021 23:27

@VeilofWinterFog

It feels like they are trolling the RF now. Of all the names they could have chosen this is probably the only one that would cause controversy or hurt to the family- maybe apart from 'Wallis'.

There is a sentimentality and 'ownership' to a nickname, especially such an intimate and historic one such as this, that does not exist within a given name itself. It is so deeply personal. A family nickname is wonderful gift and intimately bound with someone's history and identity. There is unique bond between the giver and recipient.

To take that name, particularly given the current family dynamic and use it as your child's given name is very provocative. They must know this. Then to attempt to copyright the name is just beyond. If feels like theft.

I think there is a lot of upset within the RF that has led to this statement to the BBC from a 'senior official'.

It will be very interesting to see if there is any official word from the Palace itself.

I completely agree with this - very well articulated.
SheepyToaster · 09/06/2021 23:29

@VeilofWinterFog

And all of this 'asked for permission' - is irrelevant, they should never have considered this name in the first place.

I can imagine how the call went. 'Granny, wonderful news blah blah.. and here is the best bit, in your honour we have decided to name her Lilibet, Lily for short - isn't that amazing? What do you think?.... [stunned silence]. Oh, wow well really darling? Such a surprise, I really wasn't expecting that, well er how lovely, gosh you have rather caught me by surprise. No darling I am fine honestly, just such a surprise.....'

How could you possibly say no or register any sort of unhappiness in a moment like that. Especially with the one member of the family everyone has to walk on eggshells around.

At the Queen's age it's entirely possible that she didn't hear the conversation properly and was just responding politely. I know elderly people who would do the same.
dorangme · 09/06/2021 23:31

I think the whole circumstances are very relevant & contribute to Harry's relationship with his dad & the media but your entitled to your opinion.

I mean seriously this is the level we are at now?!

Harry is wrong because he took the name without permission.
If he did get permission it's because TQ felt forced into it.
He didn't get permission because TQ didn't hear the question.

🤣🤣

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/06/2021 23:35

This could be really nasty if it ever got to court (seems unlikely)

Even if the news story's true, there's no more chnce of Harry appearing in court than there was for Andrew, Burrell or Meghan herself. If it ever came to that the Queen would no doubt "remember" something to stop it again

Loving the way folk are taking on trust the bit about H&M "getting nowhere with the palace" and "having no alternative but to leave" though, apparently forgetting that we only have their word for this

Odd, really, considering the number of times it's been shown that their word can't be relied on - just like the palace themselves

Ironically, I think Harry and Megan are doing an awful lot of good for the royal family now. More and more people seem to find H&M ridiculous.

friendlycat · 09/06/2021 23:37

As always, it could have all been so very different.
You like the name Lili (or Lily) however you prefer to spell it.
Then you call your new baby daughter Lili.

You then enjoy this magical time with your new baby daughter and much loved son.

But oh no it simply cannot be that simple can it with these two.
No it’s better to announce to the World that your daughter is going to be called Lilibet, with all the connotations of a personal nickname of The Queen, but actually you are going to refer to your daughter as Lili.

Well in that case why not simply announce you are calling your precious newborn Lili Diana Mountbatten Windsor. End of story.

Will they ever learn?

RickiTarr · 09/06/2021 23:37

It was taped in 1989.

Diana’s affair with James Hewitt lasted from 1986 to about ‘92 I think? They called him Uncle James.

There is nothing about the tampongate tape in particular that W&H should “struggle to forgive”.

If they blame their father for not spelling out to their mother that she was entering an arranged marriage, I could understand that. The tape is incidental.

Unsure33 · 09/06/2021 23:39

Why is it nasty of the queen ? She might not mind her personal nickname being used ? But she might mind lies being told about being asked and for that name being used for commercial purposes?

If she was asked “ did you know “ then why should she lie ?

Unsure33 · 09/06/2021 23:41

I wish Philip had called the queen Peachy Arse.

Stroller15 · 09/06/2021 23:41

What a joke. With this, I ask what would any reasonable person do. If I went around telling everyone my family is racist, my family set up is toxic etc etc, would I name my child my grandparent's nickname. A very personal nickname. It's not about asking for permission for but a name, it's about the intention and the impact of the action. I find it all quite cruel.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/06/2021 23:41

Chill, guys, it’s just a name. Not some top secret code and all that gravitas and persona and bollocks. The sycophancy is sickening.

Unsure33 · 09/06/2021 23:42

@SheepyToaster

I think the queen is actually very switched on and not deaf at all.
