Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.

Tbf harry and Meghan have been caught out lying before. But by the by, surely they should be suing the royal spokesperson who has told this to the press, as it is that person who has started this all off
HalzTangz · 09/06/2021 21:01

@SoupDragon

How would he prove he'd consulted her? The Queen is never going to go on record one way or another.

So how could the BBC prove that he didn't?

The bbc have been given a statement from a royal spokesperson, they will use that as evidence. The palace could release a statement either supporting Harry or supporting the spokesperson. Or they will keep right lipped.

Either way unless harry has some formal blessing as proof I can't see how he can win a case

dorangme · 09/06/2021 21:01

Actually, re: William and Kate's good wishes message for "Lili," I too wonder if it might have been deliberate (not being willing to publicly acknowledge the full name).
But if it was, then I don't blame them.Although, I note that Charles used Lilibet in his message.

I thought her name is Lili

"But by the by, surely they should be suing the royal spokesperson who has told this to the press, as it is that person who has started this all off"
You mean in the same way they sued the media for publishing parts of her letter to her father, rather than the person who sold it/passed it over.

HalzTangz · 09/06/2021 21:02

@smilesy

Where is it reported that he is suing, please? I have seen that the BBC quoted “a palace source” and that the Sussexes have asserted that the Queen was consulted, but nothing about suing 🤷‍♀️
It was on the news tonight
PreparationPreparationPrep · 09/06/2021 21:02

Then media outlets could print even worse without consequence - they have to take responsibility that what they print to be shared by masses on their platform Is true.

smilesy · 09/06/2021 21:03

@HalzTangz. Yes I know now thanks! We have moved on 20 pages since then 😂

CallmeHendricks · 09/06/2021 21:04

"Either way unless harry has some formal blessing as proof I can't see how he can win a case"

Is he even bringing a case? It's just a warning letter isn't it? And presumably the hope is that they can scare organisations into silence by threatening legal action without actually following through? And deter others from following suit?

Oh you’ve missed a LOT. Smile
dorangme · 09/06/2021 21:10

@RickiTarr is she not going by the name Lili?

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 09/06/2021 21:15

The bbc have been given a statement from a royal spokesperson
No they haven’t. They’ve been given a piece of ‘gossip’ from a ‘source’. That is a world away from a formal ‘statement’ from a ‘spokesperson’.

CallmeHendricks · 09/06/2021 21:17

No, it's more than that. The BBC have been skating on thin ice recently, so aren't going to be taking any risks at the moment. If they've got this "scoop," they're going to be pretty sure of their sources.

Totally . This statement would have been with the Queen’s knowledge
RickiTarr · 09/06/2021 21:19

They’re both right, aren’t they? Full name and diminutive? Nothing wrong with sending congratulations messages using either.

Yes, and they were confident to stand by it when it was questioned. They haven’t blinked. It’s a solid source, for sure.
Roussette · 09/06/2021 21:22

Awww... this is poignant for me. I remember my dear old Mum talking of making garments out of parachutes

CallmeHendricks · 09/06/2021 21:22

I do think it's very sad that Harry is spending these first precious days with a newborn, getting embroiled in an unnecessary fight, issuing threats and legal letters and so forth. Imagine the anger he is feeling. I hope the baby isn't picking up on all that negative energy.

Roussette · 09/06/2021 21:23

Ooops wrong thread!

smilesy · 09/06/2021 21:24

@Roussette I know what you are on about 😂

dorangme · 09/06/2021 21:24

Hence why I questioned why a congratulatory message referring to her as Lili (which is what she will be known as) somehow signified a slight?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 09/06/2021 21:25

Have they tried this in the past and not gone through with it or even lost a court case? - I'm wondering where this comes from or is it what you think they are planning?

Also I have hear a source - if it was a palace spokesperson the BBC would state that to add weight.

Anyway the reason H will sue is to defend himself - but as evidenced on this thread the public will still
Believe what they read even after the shameful case of the letters and H privacy case.

CleaningMy · 09/06/2021 21:25

Lilibet - ok nickname.

It's going to surge and the royal connection will be diluted soon enough when Danielle down the estate yells Lillllllllibeeeeeeeeeeeet get here right now in a few years. Expect lots of baby lilibets from now on. The slightly younique version means that it could become quiet a chavy, that wouldn't have happened with Elizabteh

They probably had hoped that Lilibet denotes H&M being part of the royal inner circle. Once Charles is king, it the string association with the monarch will loose its significance. Much prefer Elizabeth or Elisabeth.

Roussette · 09/06/2021 21:26

smilesy 😂

It does sound a bit random on here!

dorangme · 09/06/2021 21:28

🤣🤣🤣

CallmeHendricks · 09/06/2021 21:28

"They probably had hoped that Lilibet denotes H&M being part of the royal inner circle."
I agree. They were forbidden from using Sussex Royal by the Queen, so perhaps feel that this is the next best thing, to use her name under the guise of it being a tribute.
