Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.

If this is true then Harry needs to lean this valuable motto:
Least said, best mended

C8H10N4O2 · 09/06/2021 15:44

So you now say the Queen is lying?

I don't believe the Queen has said anything one way or the other. Its a mixture of palace factional spin and media bullshit.

480Widdio · 09/06/2021 15:47

It seems there is no end to the madness of Harry.

Feedingthebirds1 · 09/06/2021 15:48

One thing's for sure, the name has put H&M right back in the spotlight.

Surely in order to win this case they would need the queen to confirm this for them? I doubt she'd get involved in this. He's only made a threat to sue, maybe hoping the BBC will back off whether it's true or not. The interesting thing will be whether he actually does. The Queen may not get involved publicly, but privately she could have a very strong word with them and tell them to drop it if she didn't give permission, for instance if she thought they meant Elizabeth.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 09/06/2021 15:49

King George will be relieved…

ajandjjmum · 09/06/2021 15:50

@GorgeousNightingale

Interesting that Wills and Kate had to rub salt in the wound by using Lili in their tweet. Really uncalled for and very nasty move on their part. Pathetic.
Why? That's the child's name!!! Confused
Walkaround · 09/06/2021 15:50

“Palace sources” should fuck off. Either say you are upset yourself or everyone should shut up. Other people should not do your talking for you, as that is otherwise known as malicious gossip. I cannot believe the Queen would be so completely spineless and cannot believe the BBC reported such inanity.

BeforetheFlood · 09/06/2021 15:51

The more I think about it, the more insensitive it seems. (I wonder if the Queen is also thinking that!)

They knew they were expecting a girl when they did the Oprah interview (in late February?) They must have been thinking about names since the moment they found out the baby's sex. So how the holy hell has this mess come about? Why didn't they speak to the Queen about it way earlier and give her time to think about it, especially given everything else she was going through? They were far more likely to get a wholeheartedly positive response that way, or - worse case scenario - a considered and honest negative. Announcing it on a zoom call after the baby's birth (when the name has already been registered as a brand) just seems tactless and a bit coercive, as it would be almost impossible to raise objections in those circumstances.

I guess we'll never know the ins and outs of what actually happened, nor do we need to. But regardless, it does seem clear that these two are spectacularly bad at communicating, which is ironic as they seem to want to style themselves as kind, emotionally intuitive and empathetic.

BillieSpain · 09/06/2021 15:51

The Queen didn't allow them to use or represent the RF in their 'pursuits' in the USA so they've used her nickname instead, for their baby girl.

FussyLittleFucker · 09/06/2021 15:51

They knew they were having a girl for months (from before conception, if you believe what Blind Gossip had to say on it) so would have had that name lined up forever. I can't imagine them suddenly coming up with it a week before her birth. The must have known it would cause controversy so you think they'd have had the sense to make extra sure the Queen was ok with it.
Why not just call the baby Lili if that what she will be known as?

sunnyblackwidow · 09/06/2021 15:52

Meghan & Harry hear what they want to, they speak their 'own truth'

And the Queen's recollection 'may differ'...

Sounds to me like they informed her of their chosen name, she didn't vehemently object. They see that as her stamp of approval and she sees it as not having a choice in the matter.

How embarrassing for them, it doesn't sound like she's delighted with the name, why would she be (it's a very personal and intimate nickname used by her father and husband ) when they've disrespected her so publicly recently.

laidbacklife · 09/06/2021 15:55

Who actually cares if they consulted her or not. Frankly who really cares what they name their children anyway. Such a non event blown up by the gutter press.

billysboy · 09/06/2021 15:56

For a pair of people that don’t want any publicity they are going a strange way about it

Sittingonabench · 09/06/2021 15:58

Why should they have got approval for naming their child? I am named after my grandmother and I can guarantee my parents did not seek prior approval. Amazed mumsnet of all places thinks grandparents should be in on the decision of naming a baby. She’s the queen but she is just a human and I don’t see how her authority extends to this, especially as they will not have royal titles or privileges…

MumofTeens2021 · 09/06/2021 15:58

The Queen strikes me as generally doing as little as possible to create conflicts, with her impeccable manners so she may well have been asked and given permission tacit or full even if she would rather not have. To refuse might have been weaponised as a snub. Then again, she is the Queen! I can't imagine she would have been wholeheartedly behind it though, it's a very personal nickname. I think we can all agree it'll start a trend now with a million other Lilibets this year so stable doors and bolting horses spring to mind!

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/06/2021 15:59

But on this occasion I wish Palace Sources had the sense to keep quiet. It makes the Queen look petty. She has every right to feel upset, but she is of the "never complain and never explain" contingent.

The whole thing would have died down much faster if they had just let it go.

I agree @Comeinoutoftherain.

Port1aCastis · 09/06/2021 16:00

All this bloody fuss and frothing just because a new Dad names his newborn baby after his grandmother!

Another one of the queens bffs 🥱

If the Queen does as little as possible to create conflicts, then she should sack the “Palace sources” for gross misconduct.

If they are telling the truth, how can it be 'gross misconduct'?

Samcro · 09/06/2021 16:03

palace sources......could be the cleaner.

there is much more serious stuff going on in the world.
I just heard on the news that there is going to be a wheatabix shortage...
THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

ajandjjmum · 09/06/2021 16:04

Cleaners can pick up a lot of info! Grin

sunnyblackwidow · 09/06/2021 16:05

This is so true, palace sources seem as bitter and twisted as H & M these days.

Apparently 'Palace Source' statements to the press are always rubber stamped by the queen, even the 'anonymous palace source' statements....I very much doubt that though - some of the statements are purely just aimed at getting a rise out of the Markles.

Wanttocry · 09/06/2021 16:05

I was surprised the BBC printed this when I saw it. After the shit they got themselves in over the Bashir Diana interview, I would have thought they’d steer clear of royal gossip. I assume they must be fairly sure of their source, they wouldn’t want another story involving the RF and them lying surely.

I think palace sources are probably approved by the queen. She would not say these things in public so gets her lackeys to do it.
