Strange family relationships

The Queen is reported to have invited Harry to a private lunch. According to a courtier speaking to the Mail: "It’s a typically magnanimous gesture by Her Majesty.
It will be the first time they will meet alone since 2020.

If my great grandmother (if she was alive) was going to invite me for lunch, even if there had been a big family feud, it would not be seen as this amazing gesture.

I do find it strange anyway that they have to book an appointment to see the Queen, even her adult children have to. In a more normal family the adult children would just ring and say are you free tonight, okay if I pop over for a quick coffee? It is all so stiff and formal even with close family relationships. No wonder they are so dysfunctional.

Of course they weren't campaigning! Unless I don't understand the word. Campaigning is wearing rosettes and knocking on doors. Yet another stick to beat them with.

Did anyone see Kate with Jill Biden? In amongst questions (they were at a school) a reporter asked about her new niece. She sounded genuinely pleased and said she can't wait to meet her.
(Cue posters saying no, she didn't mean that, Kate was just being polite Grin)

Just imagine... this is just a storm whipped up by the media for clickbait. All these threads on the name! And just think... everyone is chilled, the Queen is happy with the name, K&W can't wait to meet the baby, and all is fine!
Wouldn't surprise me one little bit.

'But I guess the main reason that people don't, is because he has done it for so long he has built up credibility in that area.'

Exactly! It's all about context too. We aren't stupid we know the rf has always travelled in private jets but it was the sheer number with H in such a short period of time, it was his bare footed appearance at glitzy cringeworthy camp Google www.thesun.co.uk/news/9629712/prince-harry-google-camp-climate-change-celebrities/ surrounded by A list celebs that he got lots of criticism for.

As always he just comes across as utterly and woefully tone deaf.

Roussette · 12/06/2021 08:33

Strange. Because I thought it was well known that W&K availed themselves with private jets far more than H&M.

Sorry you don't like his feet janiie 🤣

SueSaid · 12/06/2021 08:45

'Strange. Because I thought it was well known that W&K availed themselves with private jets far more than H&M.'

Do they? Maybe so but with H it was about 6 all within 2 weeks including his camp climate change/gas guzzling camp Google jaunt.

Ah his feet are probably very acceptable! but to go on stage barefoot is cringeworthy even by his standards.

Anyway, as I said earlier at least we currently have the rf showing us all how it's done.

Mummy194 · 12/06/2021 08:45

Exactly Rousette, and the British media tried to cover up when W&K preached they are mending the earth, then promptly jumped on a luxury private jet - by making sure they did not report on it, thank goodness for that Irish reporter who was around.

As for H, he was actually addressing a room full of private jetting millionaires, who all arrived in private jets. He was not even telling them not to private jet, but was advising them to do carbon offset - one of the main goals of Travelyst. Elton John tried to explain this, but was shut down and the story went on like he was preaching to us not to jet, when he was not. It also did not help that his brother shaded him with a so called budget airline PR stunt- which backfired.

Didn't Charles take a large number of private jet flights in the space of only a few days? And got little criticism? Harry was being lambasted for going to France on Elton's jet, when he hasn't made climate change a pet cause in anywhere near the same way as Charles or William, both of whom travel by pj far more.

Will and Kate's decision to organise a PR stunt (which unfortunately ended up with two empty planes being flown across the country) just to score points off Harry's press kicking is utterly despicable.

@ExitChasedByABee I have not read every post but just to say - if I had a choice ( which I do not ) I would love Princess Anne to take over from the Queen - I agree with you - I think she has the stoicism - possibly a little more punch - But I reckon she would make a great Queen

But not how it works. - Let us see/ hope if Charles fills the shoes.

ajandjjmum · 13/06/2021 16:57

@ohforarainyday

Oh come off it, stop comparing her to some jet-setting CEO.

The Court Circular lists every single engagement the Queen does. Almost all of her engagements are phone calls or telephone calls, and practically all are listed as being from Windsor Castle. And they are not even that frequent, a quick look at the Court Circular for May shows a gap of 5 days when she did not have a single engagement.

In the past three months she's had exactly three engagements that were not inside Windsor Castle (not counting Philip's funeral): a military centenary memorial practically outside her home; opening Parliament; and a visit to the naval ship Queen Elizabeth at Portsmouth.

Yes it's a lot for a woman of her age, but doing a few Zooms per week from your home is not some crazy jet-setting busy lifestyle.

A whole five days without an engagement?!!! Good heavens - one would think she may have been mourning the loss of her DH or something equally irrelevant.
ohforarainyday · 13/06/2021 22:20

ajandjjmum stop twisting things.

A poster claimed the Queen constantly travels and has engagements morning noon and night.

This is verifiably false.

I've made no judgements and shared no opinions on the Queen's workload whatsoever. Simply stating "your claim is verifiable false here's a link as proof" makes no judgement on anything or anyone, except the poster talking out their arse, so stop trying to twist things to pretend other.

Gosh the aggression really comes out when Haters get exposed for talking bullcrap, doesn't it!

I agree that Anne would make a great Queen. I don’t think for a minute she would want it though.

BasiliskStare · 14/06/2021 03:23

@Jacopo - my son is early 20s I am considerably older - both of us giggled when the Queen said are we meant to look like we are enjoying ourselves. I is the sort of thing my granny would have said ( she wasn't the Queen ) but she did always dress in a matching dress and jacket and pearls. ( Not as expensive as the Queen or Queen Mother - maybe it was just a generational thing - but I honestly believe I never saw granny wearing trousers. )

IrmaFayLear · 15/06/2021 09:47

My mum looked a lot like the Queen. On Christmas Day we'd shout, "Mum, you're on!" (My mum was not amused!)

I would add to the lack of trousers, the lack of lounging too. Off topic, but did anyone see their parents/grandparents (according to age of poster) sprawling on the sofa? I'd swear I never saw my parents ever sprawl . Likewise it's beyond the realms of imagination to think of the Queen slumped under a slanket watching Line of Duty (reportedly her fave recent programme).

BreakingtheIce · 15/06/2021 09:52

I’ve thought about this sprawling g thing a lot. It’s so true. My father never slumped in his chair or lay in the sofa. Ever in his life! My mother doesn’t either. They were taught to sit up straight, walk With head held high and shoulders back. Always look as smart as they could. It’s a shame those values are gone.

altoran · 15/06/2021 10:13

I think it is Charles who is the real hypocrite around flying. He has long preached about environmentalism and made it his cause, long before it was fashioable. But he takes private jets frequently.

Jacopo · 15/06/2021 10:34

@BreakingtheIce I agree, and I think too that walking tall, shoulders back and so on can actually help with one’s emotional well-being. Obviously I’m not talking about serious mental health issues. But body and mind are intertwined and if you slump along looking miserable it can make you feel more miserable.

Nishky · 15/06/2021 13:22

Anyone else just adjusted their posture on the settee- or just me,

Jacopo · 15/06/2021 19:15

Lol Nishky.Smile
(Not loll).

Yes I agree. If you watch Gogglebox for example, most people are slumped on the sofa stuffing themselves.

Nishky · 15/06/2021 20:18

@Jacopo 😄

It’s probably something to do with the fact that he’s next in line to the throne, so needs to fly by private jet for security reasons.
BasiliskStare · 16/06/2021 01:41

@IrmaFayLear My Granny in her dress and pearls always sat in an armchair and she had one of those folding tables with a picture of e.g. hunting scenes on them so she could put her up of tea on it , and indeed a garibaldi biscuit - as she thought that was pretty much dieting as thin , No lounging she Grin

BasiliskStare · 16/06/2021 01:43

@Nishky Grin Flowers I have actually just sat up properly straight. You are are not alone

Nishky · 16/06/2021 07:22

@BasiliskStare glad it’s not just me- the benefit of mumsnet- better posture
