Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
socalledfriend · 06/06/2021 18:14

@Aneley

They couldn't get Oprah in there, too?

Wish the baby all the best.

LOL!

Yes it seems odd to tell the world that you think your father had an abusive childhood starved of affection and then name your child after one of those "abusive" great grandparents.......

I wonder why they did that?

Marcipex · 06/06/2021 18:15

I know a Lilia, a Daysiah, a Pixie and a Honey-Mae; Lilibet is hardly going to stand out in this era of girls names.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 18:16

I love that if it wasn't for the name, some posters would apparently forget or not be aware that Meghan and Harry's daughter was part of the royal family

😆😆

MaMelon · 06/06/2021 18:16

Fuck me - I hope they asked the Queen’s permission first!

They’re really desperate to live a quiet life free from the shackles of royalty, aren’t they Grin.

mam0918 · 06/06/2021 18:16

Andylion - Jake isnt actually short for Jacob, its a common misconception.

Jacob is the varient of Yacov.

Jake was actually originally a varient of James (in the same bizaare was Jack is a varient of John).

However Yacov, Jacob, James and Jake are all based in the same etimology and all have the same meaning just different cultural origins.

Chloemol · 06/06/2021 18:17

It’s wrong they have totally disrespected the Queen and calling the child after it isn’t going to change that

ArgyleIsle · 06/06/2021 18:17

Royal connections or not, I just don't think 'Lilibet' is a name to be christened. Lily would be perfectly fine.

Mummy194 · 06/06/2021 18:17

To get this straight.................the baby was born on Friday and the British media had absolutely no idea 🤣🤣

CokeDrinker · 06/06/2021 18:17

@Lesartisansetlessansculottes

fashionablefennel Of course we also hear it in Elisabeth. Perhaps people are more sensitive to that sort of thing, I don't know any young Elisabeths. I would have liked to have called my daughter Bethan, for sentimental reasons, but didn't because of the sound in French. Lilibet is a made up name, so it stands out all the more.
@Lesartisansetlessansculottes No, it is not a 'made up name' at all. It is a real proper name. I know two Lillibets, one in their 50s, the other 62. Neither live in the UK, neither were named after the Queen (yep I asked). It is their full actual proper name. People wrongly assume because it was the Queen's nickname that it isn't a real name. But it is.
Frezia · 06/06/2021 18:17

I don't have a great opinion on the name - it made me laugh out loud for a couple of reasons, but I do find it hilarious when people are offended on behalf of the queen.

MaxNormal · 06/06/2021 18:17

If they didn't clear that one with the Queen first then... oh dear.

Pixxie7 · 06/06/2021 18:17

To me it doesn’t gel but I am sure it will given time at the end of the day it’s the parents choice.

FedNlanders · 06/06/2021 18:17

I like the name.

Diverseopinions · 06/06/2021 18:19

Well, the bookies will have cleaned up because nobody will have guessed that one.

I'm going to get in early and put a bet on another son, end of 2022, called either ' Chas', in deference to his grandfather, or ' Little Willy', as a tribute to his uncle.

Bellevu · 06/06/2021 18:20

Considering Kate and William copied names from Earl Spencer (he had a Charlotte Diana first) I doubt she'd make a fuss.

I'd go platinum in saying that Many are more of who Oprah is than Sophie ... the one that's married to one of the queen's children - I think he is the youngest .......etc etc.

Joking aside - you have conveniently forgot to link and include the context of the conversation which was in relation to the Archbishop of Canterbury not knowing who Oprah was at the M&H wedding. Im sure Sophie has known for a long time who Sophie was even before her visit to Oprah's orphanage SA

Parad1se · 06/06/2021 18:21

I've never understood the logic of the usual posters who rush onto threads accusing ''haters'' of being over-invested.

It's they (the H&M 'lovers'? if we're going to use their own rhetoric) who always seem to multiple post, coming off as slightly obsessed and frothy.

sitandwait · 06/06/2021 18:21

Poor Doria. No recognition for her.

Andylion · 06/06/2021 18:21

@mam0918

Jake was actually originally a varient of James (in the same bizaare was Jack is a varient of John).

I didn't know about Jake, but my point about Lilibet still stands.
Groovee · 06/06/2021 18:22

I quite like it. I wish them well as a family.

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 18:22

It might be rare, but research it, the name has been given to girls in the UK and the States (among other countries) for years.

It's hardy made up.

semideponent · 06/06/2021 18:24

Well, I guess Lili is eighth in line to the throne and Lulu is my cat. Lulu is nonplussed.

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 18:24

If only Andrew "interesting" story and background could raise as much interest as the name of a baby girl...

Zzelda · 06/06/2021 18:24

It sounds rather blatantly PR-based.

Bumzoo · 06/06/2021 18:25

Arse lickers
