Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:

Don’t want to be royal - but will choose a name to remind everyone that they descend from royals. It’s actually quite unbelievable they’ve gone for that - it’s the kind of name everyone might have joked they would pick. I thought this was a joke when I read this first and checked the news...

PatchworkElmer · 06/06/2021 17:46

I’m baffled as to why they’d want to use the name of someone they’ve indirectly claimed has looked the other way to racism and been the cause of ‘generational pain’. Genuinely baffled. It doesn’t tally with what they’ve said in the media recently.

I like the name, am glad baby is here safely and wish them well… but it does feel like an odd gesture to me.

MrsFin · 06/06/2021 17:46

I hope this doesn't create a whole generation of Lilibets now, but I fear it will.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:46

No one has any idea of the conversations which have taken place in the RF. I would imagine that Harry discussed the names with his grandmother when he was in England recently. I imagine she is very proud to have been honoured. For all you know the Queen has already seen the baby on a FaceTime call.

You know there is no room for logic on here.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/06/2021 17:47

It's a lovely name.

CokeDrinker · 06/06/2021 17:47

Should say the people I know are in their 50's and the other 62, so they were not named after the Queen, either. Proving even more than it is an actual real proper name.

BessMarvin · 06/06/2021 17:47
@Loopylobes precisely! no one cares that you flinched.
The op is asking for people's thoughts on it. So giving your thoughts / reactions to it is the relevant response surely?

BishopBrennansArse · 06/06/2021 17:47

Arse kissy

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/06/2021 17:47

Love it!

Mrgrinch · 06/06/2021 17:47

I think it's incredibly cheeky of them to name her after the queen after what they've just done with that interview.

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2021 17:48

The Queen's father called her Lilibet. It was to do with his stammer. Maybe Philip called her this too, but it started with her father.

Saucery · 06/06/2021 17:48

What are my thoughts?

A baby has been born and has been given a nice name that her parents like.
What else is there to say. Confused

tad dramatic no?

CallmeHendricks · 06/06/2021 17:48

@YellowMonday: "However, the name? This is straight up gaslighting. Using the private family nickname to keep their "royal" relevance for merching is a disgrace. Why not Lilli or Elizabeth?"

This, exactly. They can't use Sussex Royal so they'll use this instead.

Nuggetnugget · 06/06/2021 17:49

Best wishes to them. It's a strange choice after what they have said about the 'firm'
But I wish them all the very best and a great life to their new baby Bear

numberoneson · 06/06/2021 17:49

It's a really sweet gesture to the Queen and of course to Harry's mum.
Why are there so many joy-suckers assuming that H&M are trying as someone put it earlier, to "suck up" to the Queen? She's publicly stated they and their children will always be much loved, and apparently H was always close to her. FFS just be happy for them that they're thrilled with the safe arrival of their new daughter, and put the spite back in your cupboards where it belongs.

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2021 17:49

Well the Queen obviously didn't mind so it seems a bit ridiculous to be offended on her behalf.

Nice enough name.

NoProblem123 · 06/06/2021 17:49

Why not just call her ‘Elizabeth & Diana rule, the rest of you can bog right off Mountbatten Windsor’

Congrats on baby’s safe arrival.

Anna727b · 06/06/2021 17:49

Aww, lovely name and nice that it's honouring the Queen and will make her great granddaughter feel connected to that part of her family.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 06/06/2021 17:50

I wonder if they had to get to Queen's approval? or does that only go as far as grand children's names?

mam0918 · 06/06/2021 17:50

I love everyone saying Lillibet isnt a name its a 'nickname'... yes I guess it sound stupid next to that super formal sibling name of Archie lol Hmm.

Who honestly thought they werent going to go back down the nickname route.

I actually think its nice and far more substancial than Archie as a name but I am confused as to their back and forth on being royal or being common thing, just shit or get of the pot.

RaspberryCoulis · 06/06/2021 17:50

Elizabeth Diana would have been much nicer. Lili is pretty awful.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/06/2021 17:51

Well, that's my convoluted theory out the window then.

I was hoping that Meghan would insist on the initials MM, as she once bought herself a Cartier watch and had it engraved with: 'To M.M. From M.M.' and said that she planned to give it to her daughter one day.

So I was thinking Maya Mountbatten-Windsor to fit the watch story and Meghan's love of quoting Maya Angelou.

Clearly, I've given this too much thought - but hopefully not more than the proud parents!

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:51

Elizabeth Diana would have been much nicer.

Are you saying no one would criticise the above?

Words · 06/06/2021 17:52

Golly, I hope they asked permission - otherwise a very bold move, I would say.

' Lili ' is an idiosyncratic spelling, and in that usage, is often hyphenated : Lili-Mae, Lili- Jo, Lili- Marie etc. Clearly that would be an unfortunate option here, given the middle name.

It goes perfectly with Archie Harrison.
