The more that comes out about the panorama interview and the way things were invented/forged. Bank statements, telephone records, stories about the family to encourage Diana to talk to Bashir. I just cannot believe what is emerging from this, things that would have influenced me if I had been Diana and no-one verified it independently.

I have not yet watched the documentary, but based on what I have seen/read, Bashir/BBC were instrumental in her early death. Had false 'proof' of people she needed to trust not have been produced, she would not have let her security go, and they wouldn't have let her get into a car driven by a drunken driver.

Palavah · 20/05/2021 19:55

I find that a bit of a stretch. Wouldn't her security have been removed anyway as part of the divorce? She had a bodyguard and he didn't stop her getting in the car with Henri Paul.

ajandjjmum · 20/05/2021 20:08

Apparently not Palavah. The security chap she had was employed by Al Fayed. I do see what you mean, but why would she have refused them? She kept the property and staff after her divorce.

What a shocking story.
The BBC which likes to regard itself as a bastion of morality and honesty has behaved no better than the News of the World.
I hope everyone who was affected sues them.

I hope criminal charges are brought against Bashir. He is still brazenly lying, even after the report.

I suspect this will have severe consequences for the BBC too.

No they tried to talk her in to keeping police protection after the divorce, but she wouldn’t hear of it. It was reported at the time that it was because she believed her police officers spied on her, and now we know where she got that idea from.

The security men in Paris when she died were Fayed’s staff, and Dodi overrode their concerns that night. British police protection officers would have put their foot down. That’s exactly the point.

I don’t think Earl Spencer is being hyperbolic when he says he draws a direct line from the Bashir deception to her death. Chilling to consider.

But Diana didn't wear a seat belt. The only person who wore one survived the crash.

Well allegedly it wasn’t working. That’s got FA to do with whether a police protection officer would have prevented her from getting in the car, though.

I think the point is that if she had felt able to keep her own security, she wouldn't have been in that car being chased by paparazzi, being driven by a drunk driver.

Yes I agree. With any luck Lord Spencer will sue him.
RickiTarr · 20/05/2021 21:32

Yes I think he would be right to sue. Would W & H would also potentially get in on a civil action?

I am wondering if this will be the straw that loses them the licence fee too.

RickiTarr · 20/05/2021 21:36

There was a big thread about this last year, but I can’t find it. Would it have been controversial enough to delete? Confused

justasking111 · 20/05/2021 22:03

OMG William has spoken from the heart about his mother the BBC are not going to get off unscathed. Apparently Harry has spoken too.

I love “watch from the start”.

RickiTarr · 20/05/2021 22:07

That’s the BBC in big trouble now.

Figgygal · 20/05/2021 22:09

Williams statement is very direct
What a disgrace it’s taken this long to all come out

HagenDaz · 20/05/2021 22:10

Very strong words from Prince William.

Quite personal too. He is absolutely livid, isn’t he?
HagenDaz · 20/05/2021 22:12

A very furrowed brow.

People say the interview was not a direct cause of her death but I disagree. It was the catalyst for a spiral of events.
