Shame on Andrew and his demands

cyclingmad · 14/04/2021 09:44

At a time when the Queen has lost her partner, he is making demands about uniform. Its the last thing she provablg cares about.

Well he hasn't returned to public duty yet not has his named been cleared so where does he get off demanding to be promoted up to Admiral and wear the uniform.

OP posts:
Theunamedcat · 15/04/2021 14:39

The QUEEN has put her royal foot down nobody is wearing uniforms

Its probably for the best

This speculation is so classless I wish some reporters would get a hobby

medebourne · 15/04/2021 14:42

I must admit I love royal stories and I'm not above reading DM. But for goodness sake, they're only ever just stories. We none of us really know the truth of these situations and we certainly aren't going to find out by reading tabloids.

Have a good think about it. Does anybody really think that journalists call the Queen, or Andrew or Harry and that they answer the phone and tell them stuff? Of course not.

These stories are fine to pass the time and chat about but we have no idea if they are true. We can have a chat about them but it's fairly pointless getting genuinely angry about something a journalist probably made up.

drivinmecrazy · 15/04/2021 14:43

But being ex services doesn't entitle you to wear the uniform does it.
If they were going strictly on protocol Andrew would be entitled because he hasn't relinquished or had his honorary military positions taken away.
Wether that's right or not is another story.
I hope it's not pandering to Harry and Andrew, think the jury's out on that one in my mind.
But do agree if they want a more informal family vibe no uniforms is a good call.
If they have a more ceremonial memorial service in the future I think that's a different story.

Staffy1 · 15/04/2021 14:55

@Roussette

I wish they'd make it clear. Do we all have to dress up as an Admiral on Saturday?
I hope not. My admiral outfit is at the dry cleaners.
TheDogsMother · 15/04/2021 14:59

They said on the BBC Lunchtime News that the decision not to wear uniform was because Harry is no longer entitled to wear one and they didn't want to single him out.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/04/2021 15:05

Love HMQ she knows exactly how to handle her family. By taking away all of the toys because someone can’t play nicely.

Lockdownbear · 15/04/2021 15:05

None of us will really know the reason behind the decision.

But my guess it's a combination of factors Harry gave up the right to uniform, can't hold honoury military positions, when your no longer committed to Queen and Country and Andrews under a big dirty cloud, you have to take your punishment.

Coupled with the issue that those two are the only ones who've seen active service. So could argue their entitlement.
Only the people in Uniform could salute the Coffin.

It's not going to be a massive funeral and Philip didn't want a fuss.

But you have to love the diplomacy. Solve the arguement over who can, who can't and in theory whos more entitled. Right then none of you will.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2021 15:09

The rebuttal posted upthread isn't quite a denial that there has been discussion of what he should wear.

I wouldn't be so quick to pooh pooh the DM's reporting here.

milveycrohn · 15/04/2021 15:12

You really need to be careful in the newspaper wording.
We do not know anyone made any DEMANDS at all.
Maybe he did; maybe he did not.
Maybe there was a family discussion about who would wear uniform or not, and it was decided that all would wear suits.
Technically both Andrew and Harry have served in the military; the others are honorary positions.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 15/04/2021 15:13

Considering Prince Edward was quite happy to wear a mourning suit during the Queen Mother’s funeral, I don’t see why it would have looked odd for either Andrew or Harry to have done the same for Prince Philip’s. Therefore, despite the fact I would have thought Prince Philip would have liked the military uniform considering his past, I’m going to assume this was always planned because surely a man in his 60s and another one almost in his 40s aren’t so pathetic for it to be otherwise.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/04/2021 15:17

The press has been speculating for days re Andrew and Haz what they will wear. Ridiculous news stories. The queen has basically put a stop to it. Nicely played from her end I think. That is why she is very respected. She was playing this game before most people were born. Stop the nonsense and do it with class.

Lockdownbear · 15/04/2021 15:22

At Queen Mothers funeral Edward didn't have an entitlement to uniform, he didn't hold any honoury positions.

I don't think it would have looked odd either especially if you think about the York girls, or the Philips who don't have entitlement either.

But I'd have expected it to be Navy uniforms if possible and a salute too.

EdithWeston · 15/04/2021 15:23

Prince Charles also served, but not in an operational theatre, as did Prince William.

The Princess Royal also holds honorary rank (and is in uniform at the Cenotaph)

AsterixGoesCamping · 15/04/2021 15:39

The story is true from what I have read.

Leading to the Queen saying that NO ONE will be wearing their military uniforms for the funeral instead.
News here

WeekendCEO · 15/04/2021 15:42

Stop the nonsense and do it with class.

She’s fighting a losing battle with that family of hers. It’s like a posh version of Jeremy Kyle.

2bazookas · 15/04/2021 15:48

@picklemewalnuts

Imagine being in the position of needing to thank ahead and imagine every possible scenario and prepare for it. While grieving.

This was possibly planned long ago of course.

Every detail of his own funeral planned in advance by Prince Philip, apparently. Probably to spare his wife any hassle and backchat.
Lockdownbear · 15/04/2021 16:15

The main Royal funerals are all planned and rehersed years in advance.

They used the plans for the Queen Mothers funeral for Diana. Obviously they changed the actual service but the route and stuff was basically planned as Queen Mothers.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2021 16:19

The story is true from what I have read.

Just because you read it doesn't make it true.

ancientgran · 15/04/2021 16:27

I said I thought the Queen had sorted it well but thinking again I hope she turns up in her ATS uniform, She did wartime service and it would put them all in their place quite nicely.

Roussette · 15/04/2021 16:29

These stories are fine to pass the time and chat about but we have no idea if they are true. We can have a chat about them but it's fairly pointless getting genuinely angry about something a journalist probably made up

^^ This.

I read somewhere the whole uniform thing is made up. They have to fill the papers with something and just make it up as they go along.

Well if you read something that it’s made up, that has to be just as reliable as someone else who has read it isn’t made up...
Roussette · 15/04/2021 16:45

Of course.

Just providing a balance here.

Which refers back to the post I quoted
We don't know

ancientgran · 15/04/2021 16:46

Surely that is the point, you can read all sorts, we will never know. So the Queen says none of them wear uniform end of argument. However, I think her in her ATS uniform would look good and Philip would remember her like that. They seemed to enjoy a laugh together and I bet he'd find it funny.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 15/04/2021 16:49

I just think it going to show how petulant and entitled the general public think Andrew and Harry are because either this is true or not, but people are very willing to believe it. What’s more, this is supposed to be all about Prince Philip and not two stroppy middle aged/close to retirement aged toddlers.

Roussette · 15/04/2021 16:55

Some people are willing to believe it. Not all.

Much as I can't stand Andrew, I personally don't necessarily think it's true.
