At a time when the Queen has lost her partner, he is making demands about uniform. Its the last thing she provablg cares about.

Well he hasn't returned to public duty yet not has his named been cleared so where does he get off demanding to be promoted up to Admiral and wear the uniform.

@Itreallyistimetochangethings

If you look at photos of the Queen Mother’s funeral procession, it went Charles flanked by William and Harry, Andrew, Edward, then Anne.

I think they decided on age order for Philip’s funeral to keep Andrew further back and to keep the Harry and William separate. I don’t think it’s because of bad behavior but more a PR point of view. Too many people are obsessed by the princes and it’s a big distraction having them walk in together.

Charles wasn’t between William and Harry at the Queen mother’s procession

At the QM’s funeral the first row was Prince Philip in th middle. It went Andrew, Charles, Philip, Anne & Edward.

William and Harry were in the second row between (then) Viscount Linley and Peter Philips.

The front row of the procession for Diana’s funeral had William and Harry either side of their father.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 01:40

Keeping them separate at Philip’s funeral is purely because there is three in the row and they are walking in age order.

Normally Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward would be in one row, but there’s clearly not enough space with the distancing so they are split in two rows of two

BlackCatShadow · 17/04/2021 07:01

I can’t be arsed getting into an argument, but when the Queen Mother’s coffin was carried in the procession went: Queen and Prince Philip; William, Charles and Harry; Andrew; Edward and Sophie; then Anne.

Obviously, the Royal Family can decide the order themselves. If they wanted them in pairs or in threes or they wanted William and Harry together. If Harry and William aren’t walking together it’s because someone decided to have them apart.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 07:09

In the walking procession it was as i detailed above.

The Queen travelled to the Abbey with her lady in waiting and was at her seat when the coffin was brought down the aisle. As was Sophie.

The procession down the aisle was Charles, Philip and Andrew, then Edward, Anne and David Linley, then William, Harry and Peter Philips. After that it was the Earl of Strathmore and others from the Bowes Lyons family.

William and Harry are not being kept apart by anything other than Peter Philips being older than them.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 07:12

I think you must be talking about after the service because the procession prior was definitely as I stated.

Lockdownbear · 17/04/2021 08:04

Diana's funeral had her brother Earl Charles? Spencer in the middle, William & Philip on one side and Harry & Charles on the other.

Remember Diana and Charles were already divorced hence her brother was in the middle.

Lockdownbear · 17/04/2021 08:07

Charles, Anne, Andrew and Ed are walking at the side of the coffin rather than behind it hence two rows of 2.

Remember they still need to social distance.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 08:07

It was after the QM’s funeral Charles was in the middle of his two sons.

I realised about Earl spencer and it was bugging me so I checked.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 08:11

Mainly I remember it because the Queen was standing by herself inside the Abbey and that’s going to be the same today.

Lockdownbear · 17/04/2021 08:37

Poor Queen, Sad I really feel for her. Yes she has staff but I'd assumed that she'd be able to 'bubble' with one of her children, like any other single person household.

According to the BBC (therefore serious?) Andrew is Vice-Admiral and was to be promoted to full Admiral on his 60th birthday. Then events intervened, and it was put off.
He apparently asked that the promotion should take place before the funeral, so that he could dress in the superior rig. Has he no sensitivity? Obviously not.
Because he threw a tantrum (to his grieving mother) she took all their fancy outfits away. Nothing to do with Harry this time. He wouldn't have been wearing a uniform anyway

But that has all been denied. People make stuff up. We have no idea what the truth is. It has also been reported it is to avoid Harry being embarrassed as the only male royal not in uniform. No idea if that is true either although going by the Oprah interview his embarrassment threshold is pretty high.
Taketheredpill · 17/04/2021 14:33

I don’t think it has anything to do with Harry.

Seeing Andrew in any uniform ( never mind the promotion he reportedly wanted ) would increase the public anger regarding him.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 17/04/2021 17:06

The non-uniform dress code looked so much better for a family funeral.

Avavlon · 17/04/2021 17:18

I do agree with last post,if the other royal had worn uniform it woudnt have been right if the two royal that had seen active sevice coudnt, that could have worn the uniform off the rank their were when they left the armed force not a uniform off a honery rank.
That said I think the deascion that no one would wear uniform was probely for the best ,no squabbles on a very sad day.

notimagain · 17/04/2021 17:38

if the two royal that had seen active sevice coudnt, that could have worn the uniform off the rank their were when they left the armed force

That would mean rewriting the rules...

The basic problem here is that at present once anybody leaves the services they cannot continue to wear the uniform, at all, regardless of whether they saw active service or not...Only exception is for those who hold an honorary position, which will have a rank attached to it.

Harry doesn't hold an honorary position anymore - hence for him wearing uniform to the funeral , even if wearing his former rank was not a legitimate option.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 17:42

Andrew's attire would also have been seen as a statement by the Queen.

Andrew in uniform = Queen completely and publicly supports him and risks damaging her

Andrew not in uniform, but everyone else in uniform = "Well, even his own Mum thinks he's guilty"

The only way to make it a non-statement was to do as they did today

RoseAndRose · 17/04/2021 19:07

Andrew looked a bit of a mess today. His medals caused his jacket to gape.

Compare and contrast Prince Charles, who was wearing a waistcoat and a slightly different cut which kept everything anchored. And the others in the procession did not gape either
