Would it really be so impossible for Harry to get a job?

Seriously, He has had an Eton and University education, He must have an incredible contacts file Grin Could he really not have found some suitable employment to help fund his family without resorting to reality tv? I'm thinking maybe Bonhams/Southerbys as an art expert sort of gig (with training obvs) Give himself a pupose in life?, a reason to get up in morning? No more need for dads money?

A few of them do seem to have jobs, so why not him?

From what I remember, he didn’t get fantastic grades.... is an F from Eton better than and A* from your average secondary? No idea on that one!

He did have a job that he loved in the military and I imagine he’d have done that forever if he’d been allowed but we wasn’t.... I can’t see how those skills and interests would translate into being an art expert....

He’s done what he needs to do, he’ll find his place, just give him time.

Nellythemouse · 10/03/2021 10:30

I don’t think he went to University and while he went to Eton I wouldn’t say he was highly educated. I suspect he’s just not interested in or remotely qualified in art history. And I can’t imagine many employers keen to take him on sadly for him - even if they did they’re not going to pay him multi millions. I think it’s different for more minor royalty, where they’ve always had the expectation they’ll need to work and where their “expenses”/lifestyle expectations are very different.

What I can’t understand is why he ever left the military, where apparently he was happy and well suited. I guess he had his reasons.

OddshoesOddsocks · 10/03/2021 10:33

@Nellythemouse I got the impression that he was forced to leave because they wanted him to be a working royal. He did it bit and had his fun and then it was time to do his ‘real job’ as a full time royal. That and it was discussed whether or not he was putting his colleagues at risk because he’s more of a target. I imagine both points played a part.

SoupDragon · 10/03/2021 10:34

He didn't go to university, he went to Sandhurst. He got 2 a B and D at A level.

What I can’t understand is why he ever left the military

I thought he was made to because of his royal status.

SoupDragon · 10/03/2021 10:34

Ie to take up royal duties and not be a security risk.

AlexaShutUp · 10/03/2021 10:35

I doubt that the kind of job he'd get would fund the lifestyle to which he is accustomed.

halcyondays · 10/03/2021 10:37

He didn’t go to university, he didn’t have the grades to get in.

FAQs · 10/03/2021 10:38

Did he also fly helicopters? He could fly tourists tours over LA and the Grand Canon. Grin

RunHobbitRun · 10/03/2021 10:41

He has a job as an ex-Royal.

The Americans will let him dine out on that for pretty much as long as he's willing to play the game. "I was so kind to let Prince Harry live at my mansion for a year" etc. The rich and famous will be fawning over him to provide free accommodation, clothes etc for at least a decade, then he'll be able to cash in from other avenues.

He was the playboy prince for years and lapped it up, now he's the exiled prince and can play on that for a considerable amount of time. I'd be shocked if he attempted to turn his hand to anything else.

I suspect MM is a bit more switched on than Harry so they won't go short because she'll be looking after their family's interest now that the RF has cut him off.

partyatthepalace · 10/03/2021 10:41

They are setting up a documentary/content business so he’ll do that plus charitable work. He inherited 15m from his mother plus they’ll make FAR more money out of their business and public speaking than he ever could out of a job.

It would be a waste of his time to get a job.

And in point of fact he is well known not to be academic and didn’t go to university - he went straight into the army.

activitythree · 10/03/2021 10:43

I wonder if this is your judgement in the type of TV he is getting into clouding the very obvious fact that he actually does have and has made choices.

dreamingbohemian · 10/03/2021 10:46

Do you have any idea how much full time security costs? They need to bring in serious money, not just a run of the mill job. I'd rather see them work in media and make some hopefully meaningful programmes than sit on a bunch of corporate boards doing nothing.

Bibidy · 10/03/2021 10:52

I'm sure he could find something that pays well, like being on the board of a charity or something like that, or even writing articles.

I'd imagine he could do a lot of the jobs that ex PMs and Presidents do - public speaking, journalism etc. The only disadvantage he has is that he hasn't enjoyed any kind of career before doing that official position, so might not have a lot of skills or knowledge.

But equally he is so famous and would be so desirable to have on the books that I'm sure people would help him in whatever way he needed in terms or editing and guidance.

I'm sure we can look forward to an autobiography shortly.

Erm, you don't get paid for being on the board of a charity...it's voluntary!

Oh right Grin. Whatever paid job he could do at a charity then! LOL.
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 10/03/2021 11:07

He could run a celebrity gym.

Maybe he could be happy being a house husband for a while, though. I feel like Meghan is the ambitious one with big ideas.

If it all goes pear-shaped, he can come back to the UK and do a Finding Harry programme, perhaps going off into the wilderness somewhere with Bear Grylls. (I guess that's not exactly a steady job.)

nongnangning · 10/03/2021 11:07

But he did get a job. Content production for Netflix and Spotify. He (and MM) are basically the digital equivalent of a TV producer and presenter.

dreamingbohemian · 10/03/2021 11:12

I mean Barack Obama has a Netflix deal. I don't know why people are being snooty about it. It's a legit way to make money while producing documentaries and programmes you feel passionate about.

thebabessavedme · 10/03/2021 11:12

I stand corrected, I thought he went to Sandhurst after Uni.

I do think a military career was never going to be much of a goer. He is just too high profile, imagine the taliban et al getting him as a POW?

But they only need the full time security because of the public way in which they choose to live their private lives. I always use the Paul McCartney example; band mate of a man assassinated for his fame with his fair share of nutty fans (appreciate this isn’t the same level as former royal who fought taliban) - takes the train on his own, walks around various parks with his daughter on their own. Sticks a baseball hat on and a smile and doesn’t create a look-at-me drama with drivers and photographers and lives quite happily quite privately. Beatrice and Eugenie get papped when they go out to 5 Hertford st which is total paparazzi hangout but otherwise get on with their day jobs (the non royal bits) quite calmly and without official protection (I admit I don’t know if their father covers some?). There is a way to reduce your own risk and need for security and there is also a recognition that making a big thing about needing security inflates the brand and is self perpetuating

nongnangning · 10/03/2021 11:16

When they offer me millions for taking the Nongnangning channel onto Netflix and Spotify, I will definitely be jacking in my normal job and doing that instead Grin

EuroTrashed · 10/03/2021 11:18

(Fame 101 says that you hire security to draw attention. There’s a reason that certain people like to use very obvious security- gigantic men who stand out like a sore thumb and are so absolutely muscle bound they can probably barely run. It’s a big attention seek. The more intelligent approach to security is finding people that blend. I was at uni with a princess. You wouldn’t be able to pick her security out if you were trying, all very discreet and nobody turned to look so she lived very normally. There’s a guy who used to look after amy wine house and has done a lot of eg Katie price type work. The man stands out like The Rock and does a great job of drawing attention to who he’s protecting and that’s precisely why some people use him)

thebabessavedme · 10/03/2021 11:21

I do appreciate that they will always need some sort of protection which we should proberbly help fund, Archie is just a baby and there are some fanatical nutcases in the world, I would not want that worry for all the money in the world.

I do think he should step back a bit right now and look for more private alternatives of making a living, he may also have to come to the realisation that they are going to have to' cut their cloth' to lead a more private lifestyle.

You really have no idea of the amount Harry does/has done for charity? To the point you think he should take a paid role Confused

willibald · 10/03/2021 11:22

Yes, the poor ickle thing is too good for doing any other job than Professional Victim. He's the only one to have ever served in the military at all, too. Ever. He saved the entire country and several others single-handedly. Tragedy is something that's unique to him and his wife. No one's suffered like them. Nothing says oppression like two multi-millionaires who claim to hate his family but want to keep the family's titles, want even more of them, and money, complaining to a billionaire about their plight whilst wearing clothes worth thousands of pounds in the garden of a £15m house.
