Would it really be so impossible for Harry to get a job?

Seriously, He has had an Eton and University education, He must have an incredible contacts file Grin Could he really not have found some suitable employment to help fund his family without resorting to reality tv? I'm thinking maybe Bonhams/Southerbys as an art expert sort of gig (with training obvs) Give himself a pupose in life?, a reason to get up in morning? No more need for dads money?

A few of them do seem to have jobs, so why not him?

Ah you're right @Fifthtimelucky - for some reason I thought they'd done the same course, and knew that hers was in art history. Teaches me to correct someone on the royal family, which is very much not my specialist subject!

Floralnomad · 10/03/2021 12:32

He has got a job , it’s called being a z list celebrity .

notimagain · 10/03/2021 12:58

But his experience in the military gives him good grounding for doing all sorts of things. He lives very close to Lompoc/Vandenberg military/air force base.

Maybe but not he never made senior officer rank, didn't have a particularly niche role and of course he's a Brit....

CorianderBee · 10/03/2021 14:09

Well he wanted to be in the army. But couldn't because he was a target. He's not very academic from what I hear and is unlikely to take a job which is public facing as he'd be harassed

LizzieMacQueen · 10/03/2021 14:16

Didn't they initially want to head up some charitable foundation in South Africa? What became of that?

MixedUpFiles · 10/03/2021 14:29

His security needs arguably should still be covered externally. It’s a bit like saying the adult children of presidents should have to foot the bill for their own secret service detail.

If he was willing to live a very nice, but more normal lifestyle, he could be working as an upper level executive level of many companies where it is about cultivating relationships. Military contractors are an obvious fit. He could also do a ceremonial stint in the trenches of investment banking to prove his worth and then quickly move up the ranks to the type of person who has lots of lunches and shakes lots of hands. He wouldn’t live in 16 million dollar mansions, but his kids could go to nice private schools with the other east coast elite. Basically the type of career many of his friends from Eton likely chose, using their family standing to secure themselves an easy position high up in the corporate food chain.

milveycrohn · 10/03/2021 14:38

I actually think this is a failure of his upbringing. I understand Princess Diana was very keen that he was not considered as 'second' to William growing up, but this did not actually prepare him for a life AFTER his military career.
Prince William, was a helicopter pilot, and had worked for both the Air Sea Rescue, and the ER for somewhere, I believe, until he gave it up to concentrate on his royal stuff.

milveycrohn · 10/03/2021 14:40

To add, that Prince Harry was unlikely to be a train driver, etc, so some thought should have been given to what he would do to earn his own living, for a 'Royal' person.
I undersdtand that after Diana's death P. Charles was tending to spoil them both a bit, which was also wrong

nongnangning · 10/03/2021 15:28

If anyone on this thread or their DCs got offered a job as a multi-million content producer/TV presenter-type person I bet they would take it! I would be first in line!

Who in their right mind would choose handshaking for an investment bank for a very good wage when they could do content production about all their personal causes and interests for an excellent wage?

nongnangning · 10/03/2021 15:28

Make that stratospheric wage

MixedUpFiles · 10/03/2021 16:00

I just have this feeling that the production deals are going to dry up pretty quickly. I have trouble believing it’s going to be profitable long term and that the entertainment companies are making a bad gamble.

nongnangning · 10/03/2021 17:06

Don't forget these entertainment companies are selling globally. It wouldn't matter if there wasn't much of an audience in the UK - there's only 60m of us. What the companies have paid for (I think) is an instant global recognition factor (TV programmes that will encourage subscriptions or content purchases in many countries) and this incredible backstory that for Netflix anyway sits just great with their storytelling brand.

RainbowCookie · 10/03/2021 17:15

William had a job for years, he was a helicopter pilot for the air ambulance people in Anglesey. No ones mentions it as he didn’t make a huge song and dance about it, but occasionally people who were ‘rescued’ by William would sell their stories to the press.
He gave it up to a be a full time working royal.

Longdistance · 10/03/2021 17:20

Last time I saw Harry, he was on an open top bus with James Corden having afternoon tea.

Liquorishtoffee · 10/03/2021 17:25

Is that a job these days? How does one apply?

daisypond · 10/03/2021 17:32

I'm thinking maybe Bonhams/Southerbys as an art expert sort of gig (with training obvs)

People train for years - their whole life- to be an art expert.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2021 17:34

@OutwiththeOutCrowd

He could run a celebrity gym.

Maybe he could be happy being a house husband for a while, though. I feel like Meghan is the ambitious one with big ideas.

If it all goes pear-shaped, he can come back to the UK and do a Finding Harry programme, perhaps going off into the wilderness somewhere with Bear Grylls. (I guess that's not exactly a steady job.)

This did make me chuckle!
Liquorishtoffee · 10/03/2021 17:34

Oh yes - granny has one of those... and one of those... several of those...

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2021 17:45

Well, James Cordon thought he'd bomb ( he said it himself ) and he didn't!
Maybe he could do a chat show?
Or a piece about rescue chickens?
' homes under the hammer '
Or a ' prince Harry look alike ' available for big swanky parties. When we can go out again

SleepingStandingUp · 10/03/2021 17:46

Harry should get a job!

Harry gets a job

Noooo Harry should get a different job.

Harry gets a different job

Omg I can't believe he took that job.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2021 17:50

He'd be a ' Disney dad' though.
Lots of treats. Taking the kids to see Mum doing a voice over for her latest movie. That type of thing

rosetylersbiggun · 12/03/2021 19:36

LOL he's got a job. With a million dollar paycheque.

I just have this feeling that the production deals are going to dry up pretty quickly.

Nah, whatever complaints you may have about Meghan she's undeniably incredibly media-savvy. She'll make sure to commission the very best showrunners, screenwriters, directors and producers to create shows, and she'll have her pick of the best scripts to executive produce.

Given their history and some of the gossip that's circulating about who they're in talks with, I'd be very surprised if they don't try to commission hot up and coming documentary-makers to make documentaries. For example there's a young Senegalese women who made a cool documentary about how African craftspeople are using ecommerce which got a lot of industry buzz. That's exactly the kind of person I can imagine H&M commissioning to write and direct a bigger budget documentary. H&M wouldn't be in front of the camera just producing and maybe doing voiceover.

I'd bet money they'll produce lots of nature documentaries, which networks love because they're relatively inexpensive to make but popular and appeal to a wide demographic. Someone who'd never watch a show about Harry and Meghan would happily watch a documentary about lions. I bet half the posters here will end up watching something H&M produced without even realising they produced it.

Producing is where the real power and money is. Brad Pitt's way more powerful as a producer than as an actor but how many people even know Brad Pitt was responsible for Moonlight, Kick-Ass, Selma, Eat Pray Love, etc?

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2021 20:18

I don’t think Harry could produce a clean pair of pants.

DianaT1969 · 12/03/2021 20:46

Wouldn't it be lovely karma if he got Piers Morgan's job on morning TV? LA correspondent and interviewer 🤣

GoLightlyontheEarth · 12/03/2021 22:19

Harry didn’t go to Uni. He went to sandhurst. He had to leave the army because he was a security risk and putting other men’s lives in danger. He trained to fly helicopters as well.
William has a Geography degree not Art History. He changed subject after his first year I think.
Honestly, it’s not hard to do a bit of googling.
I can’t see how Harry is qualified to be a producer in any respect. He has no skills or experience. I don’t think a B list ex actress is qualified either, but their Royal connections have got them the gig. The Royal connections they say they despise. They’re a joke. If they actually got proper jobs and lived a low key life in a smaller home, and dropped their titles they would be worthy of a bit more respect.
