The royal family

Do you think Oprah didn't ask the right questions.

Lots of subjects were spoken about but I felt that Oprah could have asked for further information.

What questions do you think she should of asked.

My question is to Harry 'why didn't you get Meghan help with her MH if you are a loving husband'

Yes, I noticed the Queen addressed them by their first name as a response, but then again , she did the same on a video group call with Camilla. “Hello, Camilla”

CallmeHendricks · 20/03/2021 20:23

Actually, the Queen referred to them as Harry & Meghan in the statement the Palace released when they first went to Canada. It was noted then as a break with tradition and it was speculated that it was entirely intentional.

Chatting on a video call seems much less formal than a statement put out by the Palace on behalf of HMQ.

I’m certain every word was scrutinised and intentional.

Blueberries0112 · 20/03/2021 20:26

At least no one has to curtsy on video chats

Surely they would have to have a pre-chat Zoom with the iPad at a distance to get it in beforehand? Grin
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 20/03/2021 20:34

Camilla call is different because not a public statement

Yes the statements are very telling of the state of play as is the interview. The pair using certain names that is the point.

The friends are very pointedly using the full titles of the pair in their tweets and TV appearances now. Whereas only the queen gets her title when they are talking about the family.

I am guessing that the palace not using their titles in statements has hit a major nerve. Just a guess though 🤷‍♀️

SoWhyNot · 20/03/2021 20:42

It’s also worth noting that the queen does use titles for things like birthday announcements etc because they are considered formal ones. Although not for Harry or Meghan anymore.

Blueberries0112 · 20/03/2021 20:43

The interview isn’t any more formal than “hello, Camilla”

But it could very well be tit-for-tat when they referred them by those names

SoWhyNot · 20/03/2021 22:22

Everything on the RF various Twitter pages all call everyone by their title. Harry and Meghan are the only exceptions. There is no chance that it’s not intentional.

Barbara Ellen in The Guardian thinks that they may have “over shared”
Maybe going on Oprah will backfire with their A list acquaintances.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/03/2021 00:41

People have pretty much been saying the same on these threads. Some of the celebrity mates may have made the right noises after the interview. However they and others will now think twice about the trust.

Also part of the appeal to the pair is their royal connect. The thought that they could get you an invite to a royal function or maybe you could meet other higher up royalty. That would make the pair a big deal. So now the interview has made it clear that won't happen. Some of the more fair weather friends are unlikely to stick around. The same goes for business contacts that would invest in the hope of such things.

Put it this way: has Michelle Obama ever sat on a TV sofa bitching about her sister-in-law? Grin Great comment from Barbara Ellen.

Of course it will and people have said this ever since they left the RF and there were rumours of this. After all, we all said that from the moment they stayed in a house in California thanks to Oprah’s connections that they would have to repay that favour and an interview would be what was expected.

Nobody, anywhere, wants to be with people who are not discreet and able to keep confidences. Of course they don’t. A listers, B listers, even C listers will completely keep their distance.

Coronateachingagain · 21/03/2021 09:28

Yes I would not be surprised if it affected their A list acquaintances-

Are the Kardashians considered A list? I doubt the Clooneys would like to be associated with the whole drama.

That’s it though, Harry and Meghan are now being categorised with the Kardashians and not with those they strive to be associated with.

As said many times, the only winner with the interview was Oprah.

Perfectly succinct

I said on other thread - the phrase we use in the UK when we don't trust someone is "they'd sell their own grandmother".

Enough said. Why would anyone risk having Harry's presence as a witness to any conversation, let alone tell him something.

What is an irrefutable truth is that H&M see that their speaking on TV and airing private grievances and conversations is appropriate and justifiable.

I should imagine lots of types like the Clooneys are racking their brains trying to remember a potential compromising bit of information that H or M may have heard/know

Blackmail is a well recognised route to the top; it needs to be accompanied by an absence of moral compass to achieve its maximum. They have both the ammunition and the broken compass, but unfortunately, they're too dumb to be discreet.

Announcing their "terms" on TV along with "too damaging to say" etc who would trust them with anything?

No-one will trust them with anything.

thecalicocat · 21/03/2021 10:24

In the light of the Teen Vogue editor being vilified for her teenage racist tweets, how will it play out with the USA 'A' listers if those pics of Harry dressed as a Nazi were to surface?? He has seen the error of his ways now, but so has she. It would be huge double standards if he was to be forgiven for his youthful misdemeanours by those very same people... surely he wont be let off just because he's 'Prince Harry' ?? I am genuinely interested to see how it would play out.

ImAncient · 21/03/2021 10:33

Most people make mistakes when young - I’m just glad social media wasn’t around when I was young.

IrmaFayLear · 21/03/2021 11:44

Good piece by Barbara Ellen.

I think M&H were fine after the Oprah interview and riding high. But the Gayle King thing.... why oh why?

Blueberries0112 · 21/03/2021 11:58

They are saying William pressured Harry wearing the suit. Yeah I know, no excuse but if it is true, William is not doing a good job protecting the monarchy.

I mentioned before, our governor of Virginia dressed up as Micheal Jackson standing next to someone who dressed as KK K . But his action seems to be that he is listening and doing his best to destroy racism.

OverByYer · 21/03/2021 12:08

Agree the Gayle King wading in has been more damaging , it feels like M&H always want to have the last word.

There are other examples of where they have come across as wanting the last word as well.

Who is going to want to work with someone who sues for privacy but doesn’t give the same respect back?

Afraid even it the William part of the story is true. There is still all the stuff at cadet school and so many other documented racist acts. William was their for those.
