Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

Omid Scobie's been spreading the peace and love on twitter. As far as I know he had to delete it. He's not really helping the situation much by calling people 'morons', imo.

'Morons'?! Gosh what a wide vocabulary he has. Good job he's not in a line of work that requires one.
The thing about Prince Andrew is that he has been withdrawn from public life. I can't imagine we'll ever see him representing the monarchy again. BP didn't even dare release a photo of him at his DD's wedding. The RF have read the public's mood and acted. The only matter now is if he did anything illegal. I'm waiting for details to come out when Maxwell goes to court. IMHO that's why it's all gone about quiet right now. MM on the other hand keeps putting herself out there saying things inconsistent with having a title. That annoys people. Not because she is 'a woman of colour with a voice'. Hmm

HotChoc10 · 27/08/2020 17:09

Omid Scobie is a royal reporter, why doesn't he write about Prince Andrew?

KatherineParr4 · 27/08/2020 17:15

If the voice is not saying anything coherent or worth listening to, the colour of the speaker is totally irrelevant.

jessstan2 · 27/08/2020 17:21

Enough people have written about Prince Andrew already! I for one am delighted not to read about him and the fact is nobody really knows what crime he has committed, if any.

M&H are a relatively young couple with a small child; both attractive and engaging, interested in various issues. I would think they are quite 'nice' to write about unless you're a Mail reporter.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 27/08/2020 17:21

I do yearn for the days when whataboutery was viewed as embarrassing rather than presented as a 'gotcha' or some kind of standard of debate.
I await with bated breath, Omid's criticism of the Clintons for inviting Maxwell to their DD's wedding and for Bill being implicated in the Epstein papers. And his request for more scrutiny of Blair (also linked with Epstein). And his call for an inquiry into the claims that Epstein deliberately targeted influential people so he could blackmail them. Maybe Omid's next book could be on those issues.

thefatladyscreams · 27/08/2020 17:24

@SunbathingDragon

I feel it’s the using the titles that were given purely because they married (they could have refused them) and continuing to do so whilst living (permanently?) in another country and making it clear they didn’t feel welcome/wanted in the RF yet still expecting all the perks that come with being royalty. As somebody said on another thread, they’ve used the RF as a springboard for what they want to do.

I think a lot of the annoyance towards them is from a feeling of being duped by what they planned and wanted.

Exactly this. Plus their stated desire for privacy versus their constant media presence now. Massive disconnect between what they say and do on multiple fronts.

Hate to break it to OS but Harry isn’t a woman of colour!

H&M really need to distance themselves from OS because they can’t claim to care about bullying and the need for kindness on social media whilst having their spokesperson (who directly quotes them) calling people morons.

Right now, like it or not, but other than being entitled and irritatingly pompous, Andrew’s faults are still at the he-said-she-said stage with no convictions and are just mere allegations with any evidence to back them up not revealed to the public.

Well said.
Viviennemary · 27/08/2020 18:39

Is the Queen going to halt them in their tracks on their political journey. I'd love to know how they all feel about H& M's latest shenanigans. Maybe they're not that bothered. I want to knowGrin

YgritteSnow · 27/08/2020 18:52

I've just seen them referred to as "Spencer and Heidi 2.0". I think it's my favourite comment about them ever Grin

EdithWeston · 27/08/2020 18:54
@EdithWeston don't forget Camilla speaking out about domestic violence. Things like that are far more important and urgent than talking about women 'using their voice'.
Yes, good point

bluebell34567 · 27/08/2020 22:47

I wonder who appointed OS as a royal reporter? what qualifications does he have to be a royal reporter?
and what qualifications do you need to have to be a royal reporter?
can anyone from street can appoint themselves as royal reporter?

He doesn’t appear to be a royal reporter at all, merely a H&M spokesperson.

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/08/2020 09:23

Jan Moir on top form today .

thefatladyscreams · 28/08/2020 09:29

Yes that was spot on!

MoggyP · 28/08/2020 09:37

Which version do you prefer - one from 2020s, or one from the 1940s?

As I've gotten older I've been able to understand that it's not mutually exclusive to be a feminist and be feminine. And to own that and harness your femininity and your identification as a woman in all of the different layers

You don't have to signal a social conscience by looking like a frump. Lace knickers won't hasten the holocaust, you can ban the bomb in a feather boa just as well as without, and a mild interest in the length of hemlines doesn't necessarily disqualify you from reading Das Kapital and agreeing with every word.

OVienna · 28/08/2020 09:45

Did she really say that @MoggyP ?

MoggyP · 28/08/2020 09:53

The first quotation is from her, in conversation with Steinem - unless scores of press reports all saying the same thing are all wrong!

The second is from nearly a century ago, from a writer whose name may well not be recognised today, and is in quite a different style.

The first quotation led me to think if the second, and I was mildly interested in what anyone else might think of the comparison

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/08/2020 10:02

For a committed feminist, I have never quite understood why MM changed her name on marriage . Even if there was pressure / expectation whilst living in the UK surely that no longer exists ?
As far as I am aware she did not change her name after her first marriage . ( happy to be corrected )

MissEliza · 28/08/2020 10:18

Is the second quote by Betty Friedan by any chance?

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 28/08/2020 10:20

I don't think being a feminist and being feminine are mutually exclusive. But I have lots of problems with 'your identification as a woman'. I don't identify as a woman. I am one.

OVienna · 28/08/2020 10:26

I just found it, because I was curious too:

I had never heard of her.
