Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

The reason why MM was so googled when her relationship with Harry first became public is because she wasn’t well know. It’s not like Harry was suddenly dating Angelina Jolie, who is a good comparison as she is a similar aged well known Hollywood actress.

A private flight to give out some nappies. So a necessary journey then. Can they get any worse.

SunbathingDragon · 22/08/2020 22:29

If they did use a private plane, it will be hard to put a positive spin on it. If they didn’t, I would expect them to making that clear very quickly.

LittleBearPad · 23/08/2020 00:03

Where did they hand out the nappies etc

ajandjjmum · 23/08/2020 00:58

They contacted the Baby charity in LA and offered to come along and help out, bringing along their own photographer. The baby charity declined to provide a helicopter, so they had to put their hands in their own pockets to pay for one from Santa Barbara. Turned up for 10 minutes, got their shots and returned home.

At least, that is what I have read, unless anyone knows different?

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/08/2020 05:51

Yes that is More or less what I read too. If not true I will expect a robust denial.

Yes, waiting for the denial with bated breath or have they suddenly become reclusive?

Viviennemary · 23/08/2020 08:22

If the helicopter story is true what charity will want to get involved with them. People's donations given in good faith squandered on those two. Unbelievable.

WinnieTheW0rm · 23/08/2020 08:30

Harry and Meghan were involved with similatr charities in the UK (jointly with the Cambridges at one stage) so it's nice to see the interest continuing after their move.

Roussette · 23/08/2020 08:54

The charity itself posted this...
"Thank you to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex for joining our team to help us distribute school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, food and more to children who need these basic essentials more than ever during this unprecedented back to school season."
The charity seem delighted as they posted about 12 links to articles on their twitter page about the couple.

I'd be interested to hear where the ten minute and helicopter story came from... the US press report it very differently.

'the couple was “determined to serve every last child waiting in a line that wrapped around the school” and they “chatted with the families about the upcoming school year and wished all of the kids good luck.”

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/08/2020 10:24

I read about it on Twitter last night , will try to find it later. If untrue I am sure a denial will be forthcoming .
Regardless of how they travelled and how long they stayed , why did they need a personal photographer?

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 23/08/2020 10:48

When I was organising celeb/charity photo ops, I'd have loved if they brought their own photographer. It's one less fee for the charity.
I also wouldn't expect a denial about gossip on Twitter. There's not enough time to deny every accusation levelled at them and it just lends it credence.
This was a good news story for the charity. I feel sorry for them that people who don't understand charity endorsements are trying to undermine it for the charity.

Roussette · 23/08/2020 10:49

Do you mean a tweet from someone or a news source on Twitter?

If they went round denying every false story that's on twitter or in the media, they would have no time to do anything!

No idea on the personal photographer, there may well be a reason to do with intrusive photographers, who knows.

LittleBearPad · 23/08/2020 10:53

I expect the personal photographer is to do with keeping the copyright and managing the images. I think other celebrities do it. Isn’t it one of the arguments for Kate taking her children’s birthday photos etc.

KatherineParr4 · 23/08/2020 11:05

The question is why they need to be photographed at all! If they are doing charitable deeds out of the goodness of their hearts they don’t need any publicity at all. If however the sole purpose is ‘look at us, aren’t we wonderful with our short jaunt to dispense goods to the plebs’, and deliberately getting photographed whilst doing it, that’s a whole other matter.
Kate is a working member of the Royal family. Photographs of her on official business use photographers on the Royal rota. It’s work, not a photo op for personal promotion. Photographs of the children are a different matter altogether. Some are official, some not.
They aren’t celebrities, they are ex working members of the Royal family who have opted out to live off PC in luxury. Supposedly so they can have PRIVACY!!

The personal photographer highlights what these two are all about.

I haven't a clue whether H&M used a private jet or not, but if they did why would anyone be surprised?

Harry's a man whose father used one to travel around South America on a climate cruade, another for the Davos summit and yet another for a climate/agricultural conference in the US - probably others too, but I can't be bothered to look up every last one

As examples go it's hardly up there with the best

peachsquish · 23/08/2020 12:37

Celebrities doing charity work should be doing so with the aim of raising the charities profile not their own.
Many celebs are able to help charities without the need for a photo op.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 23/08/2020 12:44

If there's no photo op then it doesn't raise the charity's profile as much. Using celebs for photos is a common technique for charity PR and it's an effective one.
The only difference between H&M and every celeb I ever worked with on a charity campaign is that no-one ever asked me how long the celeb stayed there after the photo was taken or how the celeb had travelled to the shoot or who arranged the photographer. Nobody cared.
I do think all this criticism of their charity photo calls is unfair. It's unfair to them and it's unfair to the charities.

Roussette · 23/08/2020 12:54

Given that Baby2Baby retweeted 11 different news articles about H&M's visit on their Twitter page, I imagine they were delighted with the exposure their charity received.

Very true, particularly if it is an unknown charity which would benefit from the publicity. HOWEVER, this charity had a board with serious A list Hollywood people (baby2baby.org/who-we-are/) who don't feel the need to do 10 minute PR stunts where they bring their own photographers to document their "work". Were there no good works closer to home to do a PR stunt for these 2, particularly with the wildfires just upstate from them?!?

Roussette · 23/08/2020 13:04

There is nothing anywhere that I've found to say they were only there 10 minutes. Quite the opposite in fact.

MissEliza · 23/08/2020 13:05

@peachsquish interesting article. I remember after George Michael died, there was a story on This Morning that he had called them after seeing a childless couple and donated the money they needed for IVF, which was successful. I think the couple had no idea it was him. He was a genuinely kind individual.
