Also Albert of Monaco, the quintessential deadbeat dad. 2 children he used all his power to try and wriggle out of supporting, even though he is one of the wealthiest royals in the world. Yet when he comes to the UK, it all state visits and our royals chumming up to him.

There is a thread about things that are ok if you are rich but tacky if you are poor. It seems fathering children without taking responsibility is one of those things.

She shook Martin McGuiness's hand even though the IRA murdered a member of her family. I don't know what your point is.

Sorry that should read ajandjjmum

@didofido

Are people looking the wrong way at PA going to church with HMQ after his horrible interview. Might they have seen it as "repentance"? Acknowledgment that he has done wrong? HM is an old-fashioned, tho' very devout (apparently) Christian.
I think HMQ may have been taking the "innocent until proven guilty" line. Which to be fair is the basis of our legal system.

Has Albert ever been on a State Visit to the UK?

Awful morals if he takes no responsibility for ALL of his children, but that's hardly just a royal failing.

Thank you Roussette - must be horrible for his extended family.

I remember him as a handsome Monarch, who had quite a soft spot for the young Diana. Didn't Diana and Charles used to stay with the Spanish Royals on Majorca each summer? And Diana spent the whole time dodging him! Grin

They ALL hold the little people in contempt

Very probably, yes, but some are better at hiding it than others ...

Roussette · 04/08/2020 17:35

Yes, I remember pictures of W&H there with parents when they were little. The son (King Felipe) seems cut from a different cloth and sounds pretty pissed off with his father's behaviour. As does Pedro Sanchez (the very handsome PM) who has a connection to somewhere we know well.

Juan Carlos was Franco's choice of successor. Now there was a nasty piece of work.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/08/2020 17:36

Has Albert ever been on a State Visit to the UK?

Only "sort of" - presumably he and his tinpot principality weren't considered important enough for an all-bells-and-whistles one:
embassy-to-uk.gouv.mc/en/News/Visit-of-HSH-Prince-Albert-II-of-Monaco-to-the-United-Kingdom

Then again, Ceausescu got the full works and if HM can put up with him I imagine she could stand anyone

Has Albert ever been on a State Visit to the UK? No

Good old Wkipedia

TheNavigator · 04/08/2020 17:39

I don't if Albert has been on a state visit, but I was at an event where he was being honoured by Princess Anne for his environmental foundation, singing the praises of a wealthy man who had to be forced to acknowledge and fund his own children. They are all a bunch of hypocrites.

That looks like a pretty low-key visit - no Queen nor royal procession! I couldn't remember one taking place, but thought that I was maybe mistaken.

Thank you!

Sorry TheNavigator - I assumed that when you mentioned his State Visit in your previous post, that he had actually had one!
Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/08/2020 17:43

ajandjjmum TBF derxa just pointed out that Wiki does mention a state visit
I can't find any reference to it apart from what I posted, so am not sure whether this was "it" or not

ajandjjmum · 04/08/2020 17:47

Just looked Puzzled, and no, there is no State Visit mentioned for Monaco during QE11's reign. Poor Queen though, she has to put up with some rubbish! And smile. All with Philip standing swearing in the background apparently. Grin

derxa · 04/08/2020 17:47

BF derxa just pointed out that Wiki does mention a state visit
No I said the opposite. But does it really matter.

TheNavigator · 04/08/2020 17:48

Ok - a low key visit but Princess Anne still sung the praises of the deadbeat responsibility shirker.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/08/2020 17:55

Apologies, derxa, I missed that "no" at the end of the line

And you're right, it hardly matters in the grand scheme of things, but I'd rather be accurate than not Smile

TheNavigator · 04/08/2020 17:59

Yes, but is does drift us further from the point that we are expected to be reigned over by people who have done nothing but be born into a certain family and in every country that unsurprisingly means a load of entitled people of no especial talent or worth, who exist just to perpetuate the system that serves them so well.

peachsquish · 04/08/2020 18:01

Because obviously Princess Anne should have ranted at him in the middle of an event Hmm
Surely the definition of a job means dealing professionally with people in a public situation whether you personally like or approve of them or not.

SunbathingDragon · 04/08/2020 18:03

Not related to the thread of this title, I know, but does anyone think the last monarch of the U.K. has already been born?
