@SunbathingDragon none of the posts relate to the title anymore so away you go!

And yes I do.

@TheNavigator

Yes, but is does drift us further from the point that we are expected to be reigned over by people who have done nothing but be born into a certain family and in every country that unsurprisingly means a load of entitled people of no especial talent or worth, who exist just to perpetuate the system that serves them so well.
You are not making sense TheNavigator. You were the one who starting commenting on Philip and Albert, and brought them in to the conversation. Now you deem that conversation irrelevant. We are 'reigned over' by one person at a time - currently it's the Queen. Like many family businesses, her extended family help (or hinder) in various ways. Some are entitled, some are talented, some have many skills. Prince Albert of Monaco has nothing to do with us. HTH

Because obviously Princess Anne should have ranted at him in the middle of an event Grin I'm sorry but that image is hilarious.
Actually Anne has experience of this because I think her ex Mark Phillips did father a child to an affair partner. That might have added extra venom to her tirade.

mrscampbellblackagain · 04/08/2020 18:08

@TheNavigator I totally agree about having Prince Andrew in the car after church.

Personally, I don't get the 'worship' for the Queen. I know puzzled has read the Norman Baker book but she doesn't come across that brilliantly in it.

Also, I think she should have retired a long time ago. The RF business needs a strong CEO to stop all the current nonsense. Not sure Charles is the man for the job either to be fair. But that's a royal family for you.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 04/08/2020 18:08

I think accuracy is mainly important when it comes to H&M on these threads... as is respectful posting.

I agree with dido and fleas, it is likely that the Queen either didn’t believe he was guilty (he allegedly told her the interview went well and that he had nothing to do with it) or that she saw it as repentance. If the latter, I can’t say I am surprised that the head of a church which has forgiveness and repentance at the heart believes he should attend a service.

I remember being taught to separate sin and crime. Sin is when you step away from God, but if you truly repent, God will forgive you. Crime is when you break the laws of society and that debt needs to be atoned for, possibly by an extended prison sentence. Those two concepts are not mutually exclusive and the Queen is only responsible for the first 🤷‍♀️

Roussette · 04/08/2020 18:13

Princess Anne did refuse to stand in line to 'receive' Trump and Melania. Not being a fan, I did have respect for that!
The queen gestured her over in a subtle way, and she stood in the doorway, shrugged and didn't!

Made me laugh....

@Roussette thanks for posting, that's brilliant! Grin

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 04/08/2020 18:28

That was so funny Roussette.

To be honest, I think the Queen has nerves of steel. She has to meet a lot of deeply unpleasant people, including shaking the hands of IRA members when her cousins was killed by the IRA. If she can deal with that, Ceausescu and the King of Saudi Arabia, she can deal with Trump, it is her job. She was probably confident that he would not behave inappropriately towards her Smile

Serenster · 04/08/2020 18:31

@TheNavigator

Ok - a low key visit but Princess Anne still sung the praises of the deadbeat responsibility shirker.
You could so easily be talking about Theresa May hosting a state visit for Donald Trump and welcoming him on the steps of Blenheim Palace there you know.

Which is one of the reason why I think the royal family as a hereditary head of state may have more longevity than some people may think. When we live in a world where there are so few examples of politicians who are genuinely publicly-minded, demonstrate a strong moral compass and respect for ethics, and aren't bothered about prioritising self-interest over national interest, it is not hard to see why the idea of a non-political figure who has spent their whole life being a role-model for the idea of service, and supporting and celebrating those who work for the interests of others might have an appeal as head of state. I guess we will just have to see.

OVienna · 04/08/2020 18:32

It's hard to know what is going on in that video. Princess Anne could well be wondering with the absolute fuck Melania has got hidden under that garment, had she been adequately frisked for illegal weaponry or recording devices.

I can't work out which East European language is being spoken at the start. "Tak" isn't much of a clue.

Blimey, she's met some Stigs of the Dump over the years, Queenie has.

peachsquish · 04/08/2020 18:35

Tak is thankyou in Danish

TheChristmasPrincess · 04/08/2020 18:36

Anne didn't snub Trump. I can't remember the details but it was something along the lines of the Queen meets and greets Trump and then looks at Anne to see who was next in line and Anne puts her hands up in the air and says there's no one else, it's just me!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/08/2020 18:38

It’s really interesting reading people’s varied opinions on HMQ’s meaning by being seen in the car with Andrew.

I saw it as ‘His mummy's got him on a very short lead now’ Less private helicopter trips to golf courses and pleasure boats and more short car rides to church with his tail between his legs, high life severely curtailed.

OVienna · 04/08/2020 18:40

@peachsquish

Tak is thankyou in Danish
They are definitely speaking an East European language. I speak Czech (now badly) and know some Russian and Polish.
OVienna · 04/08/2020 18:42

"Tak" means "So" or "yeah" like you would say at the start of a sentence. "Tak, let's get a drink while we can. Gonna be a long night."

peachsquish · 04/08/2020 19:07

@OVienna

"Tak" means "So" or "yeah" like you would say at the start of a sentence. "Tak, let's get a drink while we can. Gonna be a long night."
In that case I'm guessing your example sentence is what most of us think when we come back to the thread after being busy all day and have a backlog of posts to read Grin Seriously its genuinely interesting that it means different things in different languages.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/08/2020 19:10

it is likely that the Queen either didn’t believe he was guilty ... or that she saw it as repentance

Just trying to get a handle on this; by "it" you surely don't mean the Maitlis interview??

I wouldn't know where to start with any suggestion that HM might have thought it included repentance - except perhaps to mention judgement again

OVienna · 04/08/2020 19:15

It's a handy phrase, "Tak", but a bit hard to convey it's overall effectiveness. It is just right for certain instances.

YouSayWhat · 04/08/2020 19:15

Blimey, what an afternoon.

Can we return to normality, please?

goldierocks · 04/08/2020 20:19

Roussette: "I found it very very odd that the Queen took him to Church, and walked with him, the day after the carcrash interview. What is that saying? What is the public message there?"

Are you sure? I remember a couple of very long-lens shots taken of HMQ and PA horse riding in Windsor Great Park a few days after the interview last November.

I thought the first time they were photographed together at church was in January, following the Megxit announcement?

Oldbutstillgotit · 04/08/2020 20:25

HM and PP have arrived at Balmoral. Apparently family members will be staying in various houses on the estate when they visit .
Such a stage H, M and A won’t visit as it is a beautiful area of Scotland. The locals are very protective of the RF so they are ( in normal times) able to pop to local shops and generally relax.

Oldbutstillgotit · 04/08/2020 20:26

Such a shame not stage

Roussette · 04/08/2020 20:30

@goldierocks

Yes I'm sure. I remember it reported. And here's a link saying so (sorry it's the Sun)

www.thesun.co.uk/news/10365159/prince-andrew-interview-bbc-epstein-news/

Interview 16th November.
This report on 18th

"Prince Andrew was “buoyant” as he attended church with his mum despite the furious backlash which has put his official role under threat and plunged the Royal Family into its biggest crisis in years"

He went to Church on the Sunday with her 17th November. Interview might've been Thursday. Can't remember.
