Interesting that there's an article out whereby Prince Phillip (who obviously takes no prisoners) has said that they used to call Andrew 'the boss'. Shock

From what this article said it does sound like he was indulged a lot. He used to play pranks on the Queen... itching powder in her bed and messing up the aeriel on the TV when she wanted to watch the racing.
He sounds pretty obnoxious and nothing's changed!

@Thisfucker

Looks like the thread has moved on to judging HMQ for all her shortcomings. Well at least Meghan is getting some respite.
Nobody is judging her for "all her shortcomings." We are having a grown up discussion about a public figure with one of the most fascinating lives of the 20th - and now 21st - century.

@TheNavigator

It is interesting how riled posters get when you hold a mirror up to how their endless threads ripping MM to pieces are perceived Grin
Honestly I'm disappointed that your previous post insulted the majority of users on this thread. Your views often oppose mine but I liked your posts as it helped me try and see the H&M situation from a different point if view. Now you've lost all credibility and I'll just scroll on passed.
TheNavigator · 04/08/2020 15:28

You can keep PA inside the family without parading him at church - which it appears they are now doing in response to public opinion. The RF basically exists to survive and retain maximum privileges for itself.

Kiwiz · 04/08/2020 15:32

I don’t think anyone would be surprised if PA released all sorts of tell all books about the royals and got himself involved in even more dodgy dealing.

The RF will know this and so will keep him in the fold where his every move can be reported back.

He’s not a very interesting topic imo because everyone agrees he and his actions are indefensible.

Roussette · 04/08/2020 15:34

I found it very very odd that the Queen took him to Church, and walked with him, the day after the carcrash interview. What is that saying? What is the public message there?
No one would've cared if he wasn't at church, they would not have noticed so, to me, it was a message being sent to the public.
i.e. Andrew can do no wrong in my eyes.

endless threads ripping MM to pieces

Huh? Confused

I didn’t see any of those. Can you link?

Considering the mess he made of the Maitlis interview I'm not sure he has the intelligence even for that ... and anyway the various book writers have enough to get their teeth into without risking being insulted by this buffoon

If anyone's going to spill the beans from that direction I'd have thought it more likely to be Sarah (which could also explain why she, too, is being kept onside)

What a god awful family all round Hmm

It confirms the contempt in which she really holds the little people.

They ALL hold the little people in contempt.

We are just people that fawn over, finance & do things for them.

And even then we're probably a bit resented because our scrutiny makes debauchery more difficult for them.

I mean imagine, theyve never had a proper job in their lives, bar brief stints in the military in which they were probably cosseted and promoted at lightening speed.

Samcro · 04/08/2020 16:09

isn't he the queens "favourite" I am sure I read the somewhere.

He’s not a very interesting topic imo because everyone agrees he and his actions are indefensible.

you have a point there, I suppose once you have posted that if he did it he is despicable....there is not much to say..
no wonder M didn't want to stay as part of the RF. imagine having to be nice to him.

meercat23 · 04/08/2020 16:17

imagine having to be nice to him. I think that would be very hard. Apart from the things he is now accused of he has a reputation as being rude, pompous and generally unpleasant.

derxa · 04/08/2020 16:20

They ALL hold the little people in contempt. Yes this is probably true.
It's like when Liz Hurley referred to members of the public as 'civilians'
Why we bicker about them I don't know. They don't really care and Harry and Meghan are no different. They're interesting from a human psychology point of view and of course we pay for them -directly or indirectly.

Samcro · 04/08/2020 16:26

i like to think Anne would be nice, she seemed it in that documentary,

ajandjjmum · 04/08/2020 16:31

They're like most families - they've got good and bad. I wouldn't like anyone to judge me by the actions of my FIL.

derxa · 04/08/2020 16:38

i like to think Anne would be nice, she seemed it in that documentary, I'd like to think Anne and I would get on OK but I don't think she's 'nice'. I could witter away about sheep, horses and Scottish rugby though.
Meghan- I wouldn't know where to start.
One odd thing about Diana that was revealed after her death was that she would befriend ordinary people and pour her heart out to them. I know she was generally a nightmare but she wasn't a snob.

I'm not sure I agree. Isn't there a story that Prince Philip slapped Andrew down for laughing at those awful common people on Coronation Street, saying if it weren't for them he (Andrew) wouldn't be where he is. And HMQ is devoted to AK, who is a Liverpool docker's daughter.

I think snobbery starts a bit lower down the aristocratic tree, below the actual monarch, who has nothing to prove and no-one to impress.

derxa · 04/08/2020 16:57

I saw it that she was demonstrating her love for her son. She must be horrified by what he is accused/guilty of but she wasn't going to throw him to the wolves. Whether he appreciated the gesture, who knows.

Roussette · 04/08/2020 16:59

Talking of royals, scandals and difficult relations... Spain is going through a huge scandal at the moment. (We have connections to Spain so following it closely).
In a nutshell, Juan Carlos abidcated 6 years ago, his son Felipe took over as King. There were calls for a republican, protestors took to the streets at the time. Everything settled down, then yet another scandal hit ex King Juan Carlos recently, and he has just said he is leaving Spain to go into exile. His son (the now King has removed any funds to his father the ex king, and renounced his inheritance)

Makes our RF look positively tranquil Grin

It's interesting how different people see things. I saw it as unwavering support whatever my son does!

I was curious as to where he had gone 'in exile' Roussette - seems a very sad state of affairs. As you say, makes the RF in the UK look like angels!

didofido · 04/08/2020 17:05

Are people looking the wrong way at PA going to church with HMQ after his horrible interview. Might they have seen it as "repentance"? Acknowledgment that he has done wrong? HM is an old-fashioned, tho' very devout (apparently) Christian.

Buddywoo · 04/08/2020 17:05

Talking of snobbery someone on Gransnet said they met Prince Philip on a narrow footbridge at Sandringham and as he walked past them he said 'Bloody plebs'.

Really? Someone who's spent his life trailing around the world after the Queen, being nice (if at times inappropriate!) to people, would be so rude. Sounds to me like someone on Gransnet might have an agenda.
