Daily Mail reports they have privately married at Windsor Castle.

Lovely news if true.

I hope they have a lifetime of love and happiness.

The puff sleeves and the extra satin at the bottom look better here

Does Beatrice still live at home? My dad isn't currently allowed to walk me down the aisle at my own rescheduled, low key private marriage in a couple of weeks because we're in different households.

According to another article in the mirror he did walk her down the aisle Confused

If the Queen keeps all her dresses, can you IMAGINE how much room much be needed to house them all? it must be a full time job keeping them all clean, organised and catalogued.

Katherine that's what I was thinking, could you imagine Marie Kondo having a field day with her wardrobe.

The Royals must keep loads of clothes last year Prince Lewis was wearing an outfit that had been Prince Harry's.

Well TBF they've got plenty of space to keep all those clothes in ... it's not like us, where it's a couple of wardrobes, under the bed or in the loft Wink

I don’t think she does but I read that Eugenie and Jack isolated at Royal Lodge with Andrew and Fergie so perhaps Beatrice joined bubbles as a single person?

I did hear that Edo stayed there overnight before the wedding so maybe they stayed in a different part of the house (after all, it’s a massive building with differing quarters) or maybe there have been some rather lax rules regarding social distancing.

There was a poster on MN before who was involved in cataloguing the royal wardrobes. They don’t keep all their clothes, just the ones they wore to big events. She said they are having a problem cataloguing the younger royal wardrobes as the clothes aren’t goid quality compared to pre IOU’s generations. She was such an interesting poster.

Princess Royal keeps her clothes for ever. She frequently pops up in an outfit she wore 20 odd years ago. Hats off to her for staying the same size. I bet most of us can’t get into clothes we wore that long ago. Having said that, I still wear a Laura Ashley skirt I bought in 1991 ...

I think that most decent dressmakers can make temporary alterations to accommodate changing a size or two.

I think that the smocked top may have been the same but I'm not sure that Louis was wearing the same shorts.

William probably wore it before Harry!

Considering their less than generous sizing, that really IS an achievement

I wouldn't have got into them in the first place Blush

It’s quite a big skirt, I’ve never been what you’d call svelte!

I'd love to know how a dress can be altered that much. Obviously the bottom bit was added, but I'd guess that Beatrice is bigger than the Queen was when she wore that dress, just because she is so much taller. How do you scale up a fitted bodice like that?

I also love that it is described as "loaned". The Queen surely isn't going to expect it back.

It’s possible that it’s effectively an old dress on top of a new one to keep the charm and vintage style whilst allowing for a totally different body shape.

I agree HMQ won’t be expecting it back.

@Viviennemary

I think its a disgrace if designers refused to work with Beatrice because of Andrew. They should be named and shamed. How is it in any way Beatrice's fault what her father did or didn't do.

That's hilarious. Named and shamed for declining a job? Really?

In any case it would probably do their careers more good than bad to get publicity for not wanting to work with the family of a man accused of sexual abuse of a victim of trafficking.

How would you make an old dress on a new one? Do you effectively take it apart and use new fabric?

I do like Beatrice's dress in the photos btw. And I hope smaller weddings become a thing. I'd rather have had her wedding than any of her family's previous ones.

Maybe it's a 'loan' so it goes back into the collection for exhibition at a later date. Especially as now it's been worn by HRM and now Beatrice.

Sort of. A very talented friend of mine can do it and you’d never know. I would imagine HMQ’s dressmaker is exceptionally able to keep the dress as intact as possible and it’s possible a forgiving style was chosen to make the adjustment for Beatrice’s body shape.

It’s relative easy to alter dresses like these. I’ve worn such items including a wedding dress with a fitted bodice. The sleeves were changed like Beatrice's, to a thin voile type puff sleeve, just tacked on loosely to the original dress to ensure the old (full length long lace sleeves) could be reattached in future.

It’s relatively easy to add in extra panels at the back to make a dress fit the bust more easily. There has clearly been a new hemline added which completely changes the look of the bottom of the dress and allows for the height difference. The straps have probably been lowered too.

Off course it helps when dresses are well made like this one. Fast fashions of today really don’t compare at all and wouldn’t hold up against alterations. When this dress was made, clothes were often let out, taken up, let down etc.

I hope so. I know Beatrice isn’t classed as a senior royal but the fact it was HMQ and also it’s a recent wedding means I’m sure there would be an interest in seeing it.

Beatrice isn't tall, it's just that HMQ was shorter. I'm guessing it was a ballerina length originally, or at least not quite to the floor, hence the need for a satin extension. I don't know but I would imagine Bea and HMQ are a similar size in the torso area.
