Since they are in the news more or less daily why not a thread on this. Latest I've read over the last few days is that Meghan is going to produce a film from a book. And later this month she is teaming up with Michelle Obama for project on gender equality. Both sound interesting projects.

@Blossom513

I presume that people with homes or businesses on Duchy land are leaseholders? I wonder how this is managed, is it market rates or more affordable rates etc. Does it help local communities to have these private estates rather than public land?

My biggest issue with it is how sexist it is though, that it only goes to the Duke of Cornwall. A female heir to the throne would never receive this income. Although I'm not sure if there is something equivalent for them.

Wasn’t it only with princess Charlotte that some of the rules of succession were changed? I would like to think that if I’m the future the direct heir to the throne was a female she would also get to be the duchess of Cornwall with all that entails.

The Duchy of Cornwall owns land all over the place. Not just Cornwall. It owns a lot in Kennington in London for example. I haven’t looked into where else but if it’s building in Scotland, then Scotland too one assumes. This is part of the Dumfries House project in Ayrshire. The building of houses has stalled for now. The POW has done a lot for young people at Dumfries House.

I wonder if HMQ will step in and MM will finally feel some royal family support?

What form would this 'stepping in' take? The Queen cannot and will not interfere with a trial. I can't even see how her remembering anything at the last minute as with the Paul Burrell case would actually help.

SunbathingDragon · 12/07/2020 20:48

Like you suggesting it was best if I was ignored on here, that sort of rule do you mean?
Suggest you do the same. Disagreement with some of your posts is not making rules for the thread, it is discussion on a forum

Discussion is absolutely fine; it’s stating as fact that your belief is the way things are that goes beyond a discussion. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing (and civilised disagreeing is great and helps people to look at different views) but flat out insisting on certain things becomes an attempt at censorship.

Roussette · 12/07/2020 20:57

I am not censoring anyone. I have opinions. Same as you.

No idea why you are insisting I do this. It's strange!

Can we move on from it please?

It was changed just before Prince George was born. If he had been a girl then the succession would have remained unchanged in the way Charlotte will remain after George and before Louis. I don’t think the Duchy has the same succession change (would like to hear that it does though) but for now that point is somewhat irrelevant as William and George are male and assuming the RF and Duchy remains for another few decades, it will only become relevant again if George has a daughter as his eldest child.

Not at all. Many of the houses at Poundbury are freehold.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 22:11

I had never actually heard of Poundbury before today.

My0My · 12/07/2020 22:15

Take a look! It’s a giant tweed housing estate. The original idea was to use costs to recreate an older style of house. We went and had a look years ago when there wasn’t so much built and it was like a village.

My0My · 12/07/2020 22:16

Aaah! Twee not tweed!

Cartesiandebt · 12/07/2020 22:31

I’ve driven through Poundbury, it’s a strange sort of place, a bit like Main Street at Disneyland

Dumfries House and the new housing at Dumfries is not owned by and has nothing to do with the Duchy of Cornwall.

StartupRepair · 12/07/2020 22:36

Lol at tweed estate.
I don't think H and M left in order to gain privacy. I think they left in order to gain agency over making money, uttering their own opinions and 'bringing global change'.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-82014163.html Its a bit Stepford wives if you go on the google maps bit of this house!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/07/2020 22:48

It's worth a trip if you're in the area. I was there last September and found the place deeply odd - more Disney than Dorset - and wished they could have stuck with something a little more natural and a little less self indulgent pastiche

If anyone's old enough to recall the TV series The Prisoner, it's the sort of place where you expect to see a huge white ball drifting towards you ... just a little bit disturbing somehow

The road out's nice though ...

callmeadoctor never mind the google maps - who the hell wrote that blurb about the house??!!

Ironic that your link came just below one for Twitter, because the level of literacy's about the same

SunbathingDragon · 12/07/2020 23:07

I think it is quite possible she has been helping him to do something that has been on his mind on and off for years.

I agree and I remember once him saying in an interview that he didn’t really think either he or William wanted the role of King.

I also think most people would understand someone wanting to leave the RF. I just feel if he had gone about it differently, he could be having a life he was happy with now whilst the majority of the public wouldn’t have an issue with it and he could even turn up for various events if he so wished without it being an issue for anyone. It’s such a shame really that it has ended up like this - in so many ways it comparable to an amicable or contentious divorce, as it could have been the former but is currently the latter.

Blossom0120 · 12/07/2020 23:12

Poundbury sounds interesting. I will try to look it up tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm in the North so will be a long time I'm anywhere near that way but will keep it in mind if I'm ever down that way.
