Starting this thread while I digest the last few posts on the previous thread. I think the H&M saga could be as unsettling for the RF as the Charles & Diana bad publicity in the 1990s, if not worse.

@calmcoolandcollected

MM’s French sucks. It is nowhere near fluent. It would have been easy to pick up Québécois in Toronto, one is surrounded by it in the centre of the city.
WTF?
CallmeAngelina · 06/07/2020 15:49

Do you think they sit down each morning after Yoga and some hand-knitted muesli and discuss how best to insult the Queen and piss off the rest of the UK that day?
They couldn't be more successful if they tried.

MyAuntyBadger · 06/07/2020 15:50

I just watched the nearly five minute video, it was only Harry and Meghan talking (ironically some of that time was spent by both of them stressing the importance of listening), but the other four people have expertise so it would have been more beneficial to have heard what they had to say. I think it would have been more interesting than the fridge magnet soundbites of Harry and Meghan. At one point Meghan even says "Growing pains are painful". I shit thee not. I'll be very surprised if there's a lucrative market for this nonsense.

zafferana · 06/07/2020 15:52

I can find no evidence that either William or Kate is 'bilingual' and let's face it, most Brits aren't unless they have a non-English speaking parent, they studied a language to university level, or they lived in that country. It's actually really hard to attain fluency. I've lived in two non-English speaking countries and studied both those languages for years and I'm not fluent in either. I can hold decent conversations - yes - chat all evening in both languages, but fluent? No. The jump from conversational to fluent is absolutely massive.

Paradiseinportugal · 06/07/2020 15:53

He's making himself look really stupid now. Just wading in without a thought or a care in the World. Harry wants to waffle his incomprehensible waffle/piffle. He's a fool.
Time to strip the titles and cash handouts. Let them stand on their own 4 feet, except for the borrowed house.

MyAuntyBadger · 06/07/2020 15:53

Sorry, meant to say that was in reference to Cartesiandebt's post and link.

Cartesiandebt · 06/07/2020 15:54

MyAuntyBadger well done for actually watching it, you must have a cast-iron constitution! The headline and the sight of their vaseline-smeared webcam was enough for me

mrscampbellblackagain · 06/07/2020 15:55

I wonder if this is all leading to Harry doing a big apology video for his own personal racist comments in the past. That would be quite impactful if he did that.

mrscampbellblackagain · 06/07/2020 15:55

MM is looking very pretty!

Andylion · 06/07/2020 15:58

Here is a bit of William's French.

ajandjjmum · 06/07/2020 16:03

What a pair! I think the Queen should just sack them from their Commonwealth roles - they're an embarrassment. Good of her to let him speak occasionally though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/07/2020 16:05

I suggest Harry & Meghan lead by example and donates the multi-million pound annual grant they receive from Prince Charles to worthy causes in the Commonwealth. Or shuts up. Either would be fine by me

Works for me - and yes, it's a shame there wasn't more from the other panel members, who mostly just nodded through their walk on parts

I wouldn't argue with the actual message, but yet again there's a tone deafness in anyone from this family talking about equality or justice. As for the Queen, I somehow doubt that, when she handed them the Commonwealth role, this was quite the direction she wanted them to take it in

YouSayWhat · 06/07/2020 16:07

Serenster Tok Pisin? Em nau, wontok!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/07/2020 16:08

Dream on ...

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 06/07/2020 16:11

I can’t actually watch that video. It looks like MM is sizing him up for her dinner.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 06/07/2020 16:14

It just seems that Harry And Meghan have no idea what the Commonwealth is or stands for, which is concerning for President and Vice President. I suspect the Queen won’t immediately remove them from these positions but may do at the year review.

KatherineParr4 · 06/07/2020 16:24

Absolutely this

KatherineParr4 · 06/07/2020 16:25

William’s French is TERRIBLE!

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 06/07/2020 16:25

Do you mean when he spoke Tok Pisin in Papua New Guinea? That is an official language of the country.

Yes, I think I do. It seemed very awkward to me, because he did it in his cut glass accent, although thinking about it I don't know if it would have sounded any better if he hadn't. Perhaps it was the delivery.

CallmeAngelina · 06/07/2020 16:40

Couldn't sit through all of that video - too much word salad killing her message. Eventually she let Harry speak, I suppose, after he made a few abortive attempts to cut in.
It looks like MM is sizing him up for her dinner.
Grin Exactly!!!

thisenglishlife · 06/07/2020 16:48

They haven't gone rogue, The Queen's Commonwealth Trust has been "hosting weekly conversations about the injustices facing young people today." Meghan and Harry were asked to join one with equality leaders. They made some good points.

It is not a bad thing for Harry to acknowledge there is some institutional racism:

"When it comes to institutional and systemic racism, it's there and it stays there because someone somewhere is benefitting from it," Harry said.

"We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been educated to see the world differently. However, once you start to realize that there is that bias there, then you need to acknowledge it, you need to do the work to become more aware."

I agree that Harry should apologise for the Nazi uniforms and P word.

I think this is more funny and flustered than growing pains:

KatherineParr4 · 06/07/2020 16:52

I felt a bit ill after a few mins. Couldn’t watch the rest. A load of word salad as usual.

LaMarschallin · 06/07/2020 16:55

Roussette

Fluent to me means being in that country and conversing in quick fire conversation with locals. And/or having a degree. My DH even adapts his accent to the local area we're in with Spanish.

Gosh.
I don't even adopt my accent to the local area when I'm speaking English.

Should I say "Hi y'all!" in some parts of the USA and "Ey up!" in some parts of England as opposed to my usual "Hello"?

LaMarschallin · 06/07/2020 16:57

Sorry: "adapt".

And I probably do sound a bit more Welsh than usual if we're in Wales.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/07/2020 17:01

"once you start to realize that there is that bias there, then you need to acknowledge it, you need to do the work to become more aware""

I wonder if Harry would care to share with us exactly what % of RF staff are BAME ... or even just the staff he himself picked?
