@Ballet1992 great summary

thisenglishlife · 27/06/2020 09:52

From Huffpost
Homeboy Industries was founded by Father Greg Boyle, with whom the couple have been speaking as they become more involved in the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight against police brutality.

Father Boyle has a tie to Meghan, who was born and raised in Los Angeles. When Meghan was attending Immaculate Heart High School, the duchess and her mother, Doria Ragland, once joined Father Boyle for a special cooking seminar.

From Town and Country
Father Boyle worked closely with the Duchess’s former High School Immaculate Heart

Homeboy Industries is represented by Sunshine Sachs, as are HaM.

It’s all about PR.

thisenglishlife · 27/06/2020 10:13

That's already been mentioned. This is another link. They could have been introduced to Sachs by H&M.

calmcoolandcollected · 27/06/2020 10:20

They’ve been represented by Sunshine Sachs for years, so that’s unlikely.

calmcoolandcollected · 27/06/2020 10:21

^They meaning Homeboy Industries.

Cartesiandebt · 27/06/2020 10:45

Apparently Sunshine Sachs also represent Save the Children & J P Morgan

Cartesiandebt, so Save the Children was the 'Duck/Rabbit' reading, and JP Morgan was the bankers speech. Actually, Harry and Meghan are right, it is good to 'shine a light'.

BarleylemonPenguin · 27/06/2020 13:39

If you need an after-dinner speaker, and, as you leaf through the catalogue, why would you go for HaM when you can have the Obamas? Just curious about the thought process.

thisenglishlife · 27/06/2020 13:42

It has lead to the charity getting more press and donations.

they pay companies to keep the reporting favourable
You mentioned People magazine, they are now writing lots of puff pieces on the Cambridges, are they paying?

Cartesiandebt · 27/06/2020 13:44

If you need an after-dinner speaker, and, as you leaf through the catalogue, why would you go for HaM when you can have the Obamas?

The only thing people would pay them serious money for are revelations about the senior royals, and that’s a nuclear button they’d only be able to press once

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2020 13:55

It's relentless puff pieces of SS earning their money to keep them in our thoughts

I suppose it's too much to ask that they all just belt up and leave H&M to get on with their lives in privacy (you know, like they said they wanted to) ... ?

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 27/06/2020 14:32

Is there a catalogue of after dinner speakers?

Obama £1 million
Clinton £750k
Clooneys £500k
H&M ??

I mean, what do they have to talk about. What life experiences does Harry have that is in any way relevant to the betterment of humanity?

DontLookTwice · 27/06/2020 14:35

What does M have to talk about? Just a lot of hot air and sound bites. It’s a joke.

BarleylemonPenguin · 27/06/2020 15:10

The speaker circuit rests on two aspects. Speakers either provide insights related to their previous area of expertise (but these insights become obsolete very quickly, which is why there is always such a scramble by ex-government ministers to do as many speeches as possible, before the banks, etc. realise that they no longer have their finger on the pulse), or, entertainment.

Roussette · 27/06/2020 15:21

Personally, I would want to hear them before I passed judgement on them.

Samcro · 27/06/2020 15:43

Quite I was told I couldn't have an opinion on a book without reading it, So this must be the same.
BarleylemonPenguin · 27/06/2020 16:01

They might be pretty good. However, they are hindered enormously by their connection to the RF. I wonder if they had to sign non-disclosure agreements? They are not free agents. Most professional jobs slap on a period of time where you can't disclose things or work in the same sphere. It must be worse in this respect with the RF. Hotel California-esque.

Viviennemary · 27/06/2020 16:13

We have seen them make speeches. Can't say I was very impressed. However, I'm sure there are folk who would disagree. But perhaps not enough to pay a £1 million. Still we'll have to wait and see.

calmcoolandcollected · 27/06/2020 16:19

@thisenglishlife, People magazine writes fluff pieces approved by PR. Period.

Daysofpearlyspencer · 27/06/2020 16:22

I guess PH could talk about his army days firing on people from his Apache helicopter and calling up air strikes all of which he willingly had filmed. Or maybe how totally hilarious it was dressing as a nazi.

Mummy195 · 27/06/2020 16:24

They don't have to talk about the RF at all.

We have been shown too many pics of H partying by the mainstream media I guess, so ppl forget that he was constantly meeting Heads of States, UN, Diplomats, Activists etc. He would have had to have something to talk about with these ppl. He would have been briefed no doubt just like any other person meeting them. Most of these ppl talk about world problems, solutions etc. Even today, the narrative has been played over so much that ppl who meet them are constantly surprised by how much they know about their organisations and what they stand for.

As for the totem pole of where they stand, well, everyone on that list will tell you where they started, and it was not on the top. Think about it, the Obamas are not doing every engagement in the US, everyday, somebody has to start out somewhere lower.

Mummy195 · 27/06/2020 16:26

I guess PH could talk about his army days firing on people from his Apache helicopter and calling up air strikes all of which he willingly had filmed

Is this supposed to be an insult to army vets?

BarleylemonPenguin · 27/06/2020 16:34

so ppl forget that he was constantly meeting Heads of States, UN, Diplomats, Activists etc

The same boundaries apply to all of these people. H can't just freely discuss whatever he wants or relay anecdotes about what happened to a Head of State or a Diplomat when they once got stuck in the revolving door. There will be very stringent 'gagging' rules governing interactions between these different people when they are in-role. And they are 'in-role'. One wrong word could cause a diplomatic incident!
