New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

There is no comparison to be drawn between W and H in terms of what homes they were given. W is the future king. That's just how it is. All sorts of stuff will be coming his way that H will not receive, including very onerous responsibilities without the opportunity to jump ship if it all gets too much.

I'm sure they are equally loved by HMQ, and indeed PC, but as far as what they get given, it's what HMQ considers appropriate for their very different roles.

FromEden · 14/05/2020 16:34

Re the diary, remember the blind gossip thing from last year about it? They seem to get everything spot on, you'd have to wonder who it is that is leaking stuff to them

here

Let’s not forget the value of the place is going to be akin to anmer. It might not look as impressive as a stately home. But it is a proper home.

EvilPea · 14/05/2020 16:41

The location will also be why bagshot Park is worth so much.

ButteryPuffin · 14/05/2020 17:00

That's a handsomely-sized house, not a cottage!

EdithWeston · 14/05/2020 17:25

"We're Eugenia and Beatrice ever given apartments/cottages?"

Don't think so.

Only the offspring of the heir (who will idc be the DC of the king)

Princess Anne's DC live at/near the Gatcome Estate, the Wessexes are still minors so at Bagshot, and I'm not quite sure what happened to the Yorklets as Southyork (was its proper name Sunningdale Park?) was sold some time ago.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/05/2020 17:47

I have to laugh at the idea that a 2 bedroom apartment is not a suitable place to bring up one baby...

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/05/2020 17:58

The comparison between where Eugenie and Jack live is interesting. As minor royals, they’ve been set up in a far smaller house on the Kensington to Palace estate: Ivy cottage, which is described as a 3 bed modest property by the Express. See pic. I think the second is a side view. Not many photos online. Article here www.express.co.uk/life-style/property/1166712/princess-eugenie-property-ivy-cottage-kensington-palace-royal-inside-home-pictures

Frogmore Cottage otoh has 10 beds, a yoga studio, two orangeries and a vegetable garden. inews.co.uk/news/uk/frogmore-cottage-meghan-markle-prince-harry-house-windsor-royal-baby-grow-up-home-499768 Ok it isn’t as grand as Frogmore House, where their official engagement photos were taken, but it’s hardly poky. I’m bemused as to why Meghan was ok for the house to be renovated then not want to live there. I say Meghan because the cottage is not what I would have thought to be her taste. Very strange.

The Blind Gossip article is definitely on the money again. Pun intended.

I would too, but my sides are still splitting at the notion that "Windsor is a very special place for their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate" (KP quote)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/05/2020 18:00

Is it me or does Ivy Cottage look a little over dressed?Grin

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 14/05/2020 18:13

I remember that blind from last year.

In a way I have to thank the Sussexes for having something other than corona to think about Grin

7Worfs · 14/05/2020 18:22

IIRC four staff members and their families were ejected from the converted cottage flats and the walls knocked down into one property for the Sussexes.

They must be miffed.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/05/2020 18:31

Regarding religion. I recall that Kate had to take confirmation lessons and be confirmed into the Church of England prior to her wedding. So if Megan was not already confirmed then she would have had to do the same...
Regarding Judaism, i don't think I've read many details about this marriage ceremony. It is a possibility that they could have had a hybrid Christian/Jewish ceremony if her husband and family were more cultural than religious Jews so not requiring her conversion. Such ceremonies are pretty much banned over here as being a nonsense but it's possible they aren't in the USA and can be performed.
If she converted I'd bet it was to Liberal Judaism anyway which is different to the other Jewish denominations.

Viviennemary · 14/05/2020 18:35

Well yes I agree for ordinary folk. But not for a Duchess with night nanny, day nanny, maternity nurse and so on. Not to mention other staff. You just need to look at the house she is living in now to see what she expected to be provided.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/05/2020 18:38

Ok I did look it up. The wedding was in Jamaica and included some Jewish traditions, there's no mention of any religion elements so no, I don't think she converted or had a Jewish wedding ceremony.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/05/2020 18:47

Mummyoflittledragon I think that second image might be of Nottingham Cottage, rather than a side view of Ivy Cottage?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 14/05/2020 18:57

The pictures of frogmore cottage don’t actually shout out cottage to me. Ivy cottage is what I’d think of as a cottage.

TimeLady · 14/05/2020 19:33

The Yorks (A&S) live in Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate. Andrew took over that after the Queen Mother died.

Puzzledandpissedoff
Thanks for letting me know. Yes, you are perfectly correct. I didn’t look at it in enough detail. The two don’t tally at all.

WindsorBlues · 14/05/2020 20:18

W&K lived in Nott Cottage first and even lived there with Prince George for a few months until they moved into Apartment 1A, Harry moved in after and probably opted for it over the 3 bedroom Ivy Cottage (Eugenies Home) as I presume W&K would have already decently decorated and not left much for him to do other than move in.

Beatrice has a small apartment in St James Palace she used to share it with Eugenie but now lives there with the Count.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/05/2020 20:30

I'd forgotten W&K had Nott Cottage first. That must have been odd for MM, living with her SIL's taste when she and H were there.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/05/2020 21:09

Apparently Meghan didn’t live with their style... www.idealhome.co.uk/news/prince-harry-meghan-marksles-nottingham-cottage-makeover-203100

Viviennemary · 14/05/2020 21:17

No wonder Meghan is always wearing sunglasses. It's a bit over the top bright. Those blinds.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 14/05/2020 21:27

I don’t think Meghan would go for that at all! Here are some pics of her house in Toronto, it’s quite boho glamour.

Grin I must say that I prefer her taste to the classic, duller tones. Albeit I wouldn’t choose something so bold for my home.
