Are we supposed to just coo over the video, what an adorable baby, M looks beautiful, H a master behind the camera?

OK then, but that's not discussion to me at least.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/05/2020 18:49

All babies are little bundles of cute loveliness. That the law.

7Worfs · 07/05/2020 18:56

Agreed, yolo.
Archie is an adorable baby and will be loved by the public if they ever return. Meghan looks great and often appears effortlessly stylish in casual clothing.

However we are more interested in H&M’s actions and latest schemes. Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/05/2020 19:14

It's not her skin that's amazing, it's her make up. That's not meant to be bitchy, her make up is excellent.

Leflic · 07/05/2020 20:03

Posts with little context, designed to attack looks, personality or even parenting, are likely to be deleted. They are simply not in the spirit of the site, and not what Mumsnet is about

And yet Boris is attacked on daily on multiple threads, for his looks, personality and parenting. Without any deletions.

I’ve just watched the video. It’s ridiculous. If they wanted to do Jackonory for charity that’s one thing. Not sure why Archie got dragged in. The cutest bit is Arch saying Dada. But that was ignored.

iVampire · 07/05/2020 20:13

If you see posts about Boris that you think are not ‘in the spirit’ then report them. They will be deleted if MNHQ agree.

MissEliza · 07/05/2020 20:14

I agree her makeup is excellent. I guess people in her industry take lessons so they can look good all the time. I noticed Kate's hair is looking fabulous despite the lockdown and I wonder if she's had some tips.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/05/2020 20:19

Yeh Leftlic but he is eccentric and considers these a badge of honour. Wink

It is a fact that he deliberately ruffles his hair and has cultivated this quirky image to woo the public and cover up his faults. It is also a fact he doesn’t see some of his children including a child, who may or may not be his.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 20:25

Just wanted to say you're not alone in what you noticed, Leftic - I'm no Boris fan but the inconsistency is pretty glaring at times

derxa · 07/05/2020 20:30

The cutest bit is Arch saying Dada. But that was ignored. Sad

EveryoneNoOne · 07/05/2020 20:36

There are now press reports of where thay have been staying in LA, with a mate of Oprah's apparently in a big mansion.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/05/2020 20:41

Yes it was cutest bit. I don’t get why Meghan said Duck Rabbit at the end.

yy558 · 07/05/2020 20:55

Somehow they always manage to stay in a massive mansion for free? I don't like it but Mad respect for that kinda hustle.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 20:57

I guess she said 'Duck Rabbit' at the end because that's the name of the book?!

I think they complicated the issue by having it do two things at once.

Ostensibly, it's part of a series, #savebystories, where celebrities read children's books to the camera. So you can watch with your child. Showing the book to the camera and reading to the audience is therefore integral to that.

Although Meghan said something about reading for save by stories at the beginning, it would have worked more in her favour if she'd made it clearer what save by stories was briefly, and that it was a series and not a one-off she was doing.

That would have helped the audience to know that of course she had to show the book to the camera, thus avoiding that bit of criticism. All the other celebrities doing this show the book to the camera much more than Meghan does, because they don't have a wriggling baby on their lap.

By making it also about 'celebrating' Archie's birthday and showing him off, it meant that a lot of people are only watching it for that and only seeing it through that perspective.

It was always going to be really hard to do both successfully with a child that young. As a PP suggested, it might have worked better if Harry had held Archie so Meghan could concentrate on reading for the camera.

I said above I thought it was endearing. But if their two aims had been separated out, people might have been a lot clearer about what the intention was and therefore less likely to criticise because they weren't quite seeing it for what it was.

Oldbutstillgotit · 07/05/2020 21:03

@ EveryoneNoOne apparently the house is worth $18million . So , not an Airbandb

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:19

Is it just me who finds it a bit "hmmm" that, no matter what they do, Oprah always seems to be in the background somewhere?

ButteryPuffin · 07/05/2020 21:21

I dislike Johnson on a personal and political level, but @Leflic is right. And there are long strings of similar attacks on individuals who also happen to be parents. There's only one other example I can think of where this 'not in the spirit' line is employed to defend them from criticism as often as it is for the Sussexes. Won't name for obvious reasons.

Anniesnotmydaddy · 07/05/2020 21:25

I agree re Boris. I'm not a fan but some of the comments after his baby was born were utterly disgusting. They were less than 12 hours after Carrie had given birth. I reported some, but they weren't deleted. On a parenting site.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:43

I suspect we're thinking of the same parents, Buttery; as you rightly suggest, exceptions seem to be made for some and not others

And yes, Annie, I reported a fair few myself - yet there they remain. Strange, eh?

YgritteSnow · 07/05/2020 21:47

So they're borrowing yet another house from yet another billionaire. Surely this must be mortifying the RF?

EveryoneNoOne · 07/05/2020 21:58

Oprah did this thing with Dr Phil a few years back about what they called the nefarious 15. A lot of it is still on you tube if anyone is interested. I'm not good with clicky links but hopefully this one will work for a bit of a taster.

Read it and see if it reminds you of anyone.

Leflic · 07/05/2020 22:07

Dandyish That’s interesting to know. You’re right, knowing the purpose of reading the book to camera does change the perspective.

However I still think it’s a bit self indulgent to do a charity reading whilst presenting your child (after asking for privacy) and not doing a particularly good job of either reading or keeping your child entertained.
Harry should have been holding Arch or she could have read it from the floor so Arch could do his own thing next to her.

ButteryPuffin · 07/05/2020 22:15

Puzzled yes, I believe we are..

Wonder why they didn't just mention Save the Children in the video? Really odd from a promotional point of view not to do that. Then people would have been better prepared for the idea that some of this was about reaching an audience for the charity, not all about having the spotlight on Meghan Archie.

TinRoofRusty · 07/05/2020 22:24

Did they move again? Who is paying for their security?

derxa · 07/05/2020 22:38

The video actually endeared me more to Meghan. She's a new mum in lockdown. She's a bit clueless like all of us. I wish her the best.
