Harry and Meghan biography

Hasn't Prince Harry learnt anything from his mother's experience of having someone write her biography 'to set the record straight'? Couldn't they have at least waited until after his grandmother's death, however long that might be?

User098 that's a shocking description of LA.

I think you're right, the Malibu mansion is what Meghan had her eye on all along. Yep, she's made it and fair play to her. But Harry has found himself transplanted to another planet.

TimeLady · 01/05/2020 12:13

OvaHere : In reality of course if Harry wasn't born royal it's very very unlikely he would be a Bill Gates or even a George Clooney. He'd be a squaddie or a postman or have one of the thousand other bog standard jobs that people have that don't allow for travel on private jets or the opportunity to be global influencers.

For him to think he is being denied an A++ list lifestyle as a result of being born royal is evidence of disordered thinking. Outside of aristocracy those people achieved that by creating or doing something that generally involved a lot of work, intelligence and/or talent.

That's really insightful.

She's lost the first round of the court action against the Daily Mail - the bits of her case the DM wanted struck out have been struck out.

milveycrohn · 01/05/2020 12:15

Although I did not support Diana writing her book (via Andrew Motion), I understood the reasons why she did so.
When her parents divorced, her mother lost custody of their children, and I assumed that Diana was concerned the same thing would happen to her. Therefore, the book was to gain sympathy for her as a victim, so that she would gain custody of children when she divorced Prince Charles.
(I think they had a sort of shared custody, but she had a good settlement from Charles, I seem to remember).
So, with Harry and Meghan, the question is, what are they trying to achieve?

TimeLady · 01/05/2020 12:22

Mr Stephens told Newsweek last week: 'This has become a very high stakes game for Meghan because ultimately it gets into a situation of whether she's telling the truth. All of her five friends are going to have to come into the case. They're going to have to be cross-examined, she's going to have to be cross-examined.

'The Mail on Sunday's QC is a brilliant cross-examiner. Even if she wins the case on a technicality she's going to lose the war. She's going to have huge lumps taken out of her reputationally.'

MoS has prevailed.

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/05/2020 12:33

Just seen Meghan has lost her court case. Faces massive legal bill.

TimeLady · 01/05/2020 12:36

From the DM report

Associated Newspapers will also ask the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to pay their costs of in excess of £50,000 after the couple refused their offer to deal with the issue out of court to save the High Court having to set up an online hearing during the coronavirus crisis. Meghan's costs are said to have been £60,000-plus.

What's the betting that AN then donates those costs to a charity, just to rub it in? Don't poke the bear.

I do hope PC isn't going to be expected to stump up the money.

OVienna · 01/05/2020 12:36

This was a striking out session (wrong term) to define the scope of the court case. MoS succeeded in getting some elements struck out but the case is still proceeding.

Oh that would be delicious Grin

When her parents divorced, her mother lost custody of their children,

Diana's mother lost her children because she left them to be with another man. This was a complete no-no for child custody cases at the time and even Diana's grandmother didn't support her daughter.
There is no doubt this left lasting damage to Diana.

Its a tough argument that they shouldn't have published the letter but also they should have published more of the letter.

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/05/2020 12:39

I’m reading the article and struggling to make head or tail of it to be honest. It’s the usual rushed, disjointed story from the DM....which bits are still going ahead. I can see what’s been thrown out but now what’s still. Ring allowed to proceed?

DateLoaf · 01/05/2020 12:47

At the time of her marriage (or before), Meghan was offered the chance of having her British citizenship fast-tracked. She declined.

To be fair, I don’t think Meghan would have had much choice on declining that really. Doing it would cause an outcry. Royal fast tracking (like Prince Charles getting a COVID test) goes down very badly.

HeddaGarbled · 01/05/2020 12:51

She hasn’t lost her court case! It hasn’t happened yet. This was a pre-trial hearing to establish the extent of her claim.

StartupRepair · 01/05/2020 13:01

I think Meghan wanted to say the mos is to blame for the breakdown of her relationship with her dad and they have run an agenda against her. I think this stuff has been deemed not relevant and the case will be about who owned the letter.

Ineedabreak19 · 01/05/2020 13:03

Omid Scobie looks like he could be son of David Gest

I was going to say he could also be the son of Marc Almond.

ArchePenguin · 01/05/2020 13:05

Associated Newspapers will also ask the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to pay their costs of in excess of £50,000 after the couple refused their offer to deal with the issue out of court to save the High Court having to set up an online hearing during the coronavirus crisis.

So they could have settled out of court?

Words fail me.

RosesandIris · 01/05/2020 13:10

I’m really not sure why M hasn’t published the letter in its entirety if she feels the issue was that only selected parts were published to give a false impression.

Mariposa123 · 01/05/2020 13:12

I do wonder what they hoped to achieve with the court case? Is it to take a stand against injustice and mistruths in the press? Or is it just to stay in the press?

Allflightscancelled · 01/05/2020 13:15

Hmmmmm. I'm guessing the latter, Mariposa.

KayakingOnDown · 01/05/2020 13:15

She hasn't lost the case.

But she's already lost so much. She's publicly called her father a liar.

RosesandIris · 01/05/2020 13:16

She wants to stroke a blow at the Press who she feels have caused her upset and misrepresented her. She hasn’t thought the rest of it through imo.

Mariposa123 · 01/05/2020 13:18

A follow up question: how will these thousands of legal fees be paid?
