A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

OP posts:

@mamamia456

Your suggestion is utterly implausible though. You have been unable to put forward a single reasonable or factual point as to why our future king is sitting around on a tennis court when the country is in crisis. Yet you say they're not lazy.

As for public support, there have been a number of pro-Cambridge articles recently. I think that is due to the tabloids backing them against Harry and Meghan. They look better by comparison rather than because theyve done anything of merit.

If you look at the comments section (you know, actual public opinion, not royal commentators) the remarks are not so favourable.

BurneyFanny · 26/04/2020 20:03

Self isolating is fine. Not using the time productively isn’t. HTH.

Mamamia456 · 26/04/2020 20:26

Burney - How do you know how they're spending their time.

Wolfgirrl · 26/04/2020 20:43

@mamamia456

The fact is that we should know how they spend their time, but we don't. Every other public servant is held to account or scrutinised in some way but the royals. They pocket 85 million a year yet act like we have no right to know how they spend their time.

That's why the royalists have to cling to the bizarre theory that they must be doing loads of work/charity donations we don't know about. Because the far more plausible explanation is just that they don't do very much.

CathyorClaire · 26/04/2020 21:06

They are obviously more recognisable and more likely to be a target for fanatics

Even the fanatics are under lockdown but if they weren't they'd be hard pushed to track the invisible W&K down.

With the Queen and Prince Charles at high risk they won't risk William catching it

Charles has had it. Wills was sniggering about the virus a month ago.

You think it's just because they are lazy, I don't.

Why do you think Wills was dubbed 'Workshy Willie' not so long ago?

Clav - I really shouldn't have directed you to the Court Circular. It's like a fly to shit but bigging up Sophie Wessex's sarnie skills isn't going to detract from the arid desert of entries for Wills and Kate.

Mamamia456 · 26/04/2020 21:07

Wolfgirrl - Oh yes we all know what the public comments sections in newspapers are like, usually full of racist, vitriolic rants.

Brefugee · 26/04/2020 21:22

i always have to snigger at "senior royals" like they did some courses and got promoted.

They should just bugger off and stay away. Nobody needs them.

Wolfgirrl · 26/04/2020 21:40

@Mamamia456

So we can discount the newspapers too? Including the article posted above that says how popular the royals are? Seeing as they cater to such vitriolic people?

Mamamia456 · 26/04/2020 22:22

Wolfgirrl - Haha there you go twisting things again. We can certainly discount any vitriolic rants.

Wolfgirrl · 26/04/2020 22:51

@mamamia456

So in other words; we can discount anything you don't agree with, but count anything you do.

Right.

Nishky · 27/04/2020 08:17

I am really confused by the fact that it is suggested that Kate and William do something. Anything they do would be a token gesture and have virtually no impact on the current situation,

In a time or crisis maybe energies are best used worrying about the actions of people who can make a difference.

There are thousands of wealthy people sitting on their arses in big houses

StoneofDestiny · 27/04/2020 08:56

That's the point - there is no point to them! Yes, there are loads of people sitting around contributing nothing, but this family is using tax payers money for the privilege of sitting around in mansions doing nothing.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 09:00

Anything they do would be a token gesture and have virtually no impact on the current situation

Quite. So why are we funding them to have the worlds best lockdown experience?

Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 09:11

@Nishky they are our future Head of State that live off taxpayer funds! They're not just 'regular rich people'.

bluemoon77 · 27/04/2020 09:11

There are thousands of wealthy people sitting on their arses in big houses

Are they tax payer funded?

bluemoon77 · 27/04/2020 09:14

Anything they do would be a token gesture

Not much point in them then. Makes you question why we give them such wealth and privilege.

bluemoon77 · 27/04/2020 09:38

Apart from the obscene amount of money we give to this one family, I resent the fact that they use up such huge police resources at a time when the police have been stretched to the limit.

Mamamia456 · 27/04/2020 10:21

bluemoon - The royal family are protected by RaSP, the Royalty and Specialist Protection Service which is an elite branch of the Metropolitan Police. Officers have to have at least 10-15 years experience before joining the team.

Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 10:24

So?

Mamamia456 · 27/04/2020 10:29

Wolfgirrl - Well I think we can discount the vitriolic rantings don't you.

Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 10:41

What is meant by vitriolic ranting? Anybody that scrutinised the royal family?

ToastedHaMSandwich · 27/04/2020 11:24

W&K are following government advice to only go for essential journeys. Or work they cannot do at home.
They are following the advice
And making videos aka working from home

It would be totally irresponsible for them and RPOs to be visiting all over the place.

They said they were home educating their children and continued even over the Easter holidays.

Give em a break please

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 11:28

It would be totally irresponsible for them and RPOs to be visiting all over the place.

They don’t have to leave their house to make a difference. I know loads of people making far more of a contribution than them. None of them are publicly funded to lead the nation.

They said they were home educating their children and continued even over the Easter holidays.

Wow, what an undertaking. What with the nanny’s and other support. What total saints!

Give em a break please

I’ll give them a break if they take a break from taking the SG. What about furlough terms for them too?

Wolfgirrl · 27/04/2020 11:42

@ToastedHaMSandwich so the 1 million NHS volunteers are breaking the rules and should stay home too?

Alsohuman · 27/04/2020 11:45

The million volunteers (of which I’m one) are mostly sitting on our backsides waiting to be called upon to do something. I’ve had the app for three weeks, turned it on every day for 12 hours and - nothing.
