Hope you don't mind Dave.

I have to correct something I wrote here last night. Should have looked it up first instead of relying on my memory.

I said Danny Baker said he didn’t know that Meghan was mixed-race. That’s not true, he didn’t say that.

He said that he didn’t know whose royal baby had been born, just that one had. He never said he didn’t know who MM was or her ethnicity, that’s my mis-remembering.

In the article that extract is from, The Sun debunked DB’s excuse by proving he’d retweeted about Meghan & Harry having a baby the day or so before.

Funny that so many others here seemed to remember it wrongly too.

Reading back it on it all and what he said some time after, I think it was genuinely an oversight. It’s the only time I believe in a very long career that he appears to have done something racist and I can’t believe he’d knowingly have done something so overt.

If he avoids royal news to that extent, why on earth did he pass comment or post a meme at all? What a stupid way to throw away a career!

ToastedHaMSandwich · 04/05/2020 07:17

Catching up and have been sat here with my coffee saying drawing to myself to work out how I say it.

I have now confused myself

Roussette · 04/05/2020 07:30

Well... he obviously doesn't play the game totally, as I believe he'd been sacked 4 times before that. Not for racism though.

How a mainstream broadcaster can say he didn't know who'd had the Royal baby is positively laughable! He may as well say he didn't know who Harry was Grin He must be so up his own arse not to be aware as it was his job to know these things.

Samcro · 04/05/2020 08:35

so harry does something when he was in his early 20's and that is still used as a stick to beat him with. radio guy makes a disgusting racist post and he is defended........strange days.

what ever happened to that poster Mrs(something) the robbing butcher poster. havn't seen them in ages.

Cerseirys · 04/05/2020 08:40

I think a stack of posters have moved to that new chat forum @Samcro

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/05/2020 08:47

Roussette I wanted to thank you so much for the recommendation to watch Normal People. You're right, it is beautiful. It wasn't on my radar and would have completely passed me by. And I agree the adaptation first is probably the way to go. I downloaded a sample of the book and found it a struggle to read, tbh. Anyway, thanks to you I have a new binge watch!

Mummy195 · 04/05/2020 08:48

I am sure by the time the MM case goes to trial, H&M would have had enough and would like to have put this UK chapter behind them.

It seems the judge is fine with acknowledging the lies, but want that aspect to be presented differently. Well, that would be up to their legal team to see how they frame things.

This is interesting reading from byline on the outcome of the case.

Samcro
I believe that Danny Baker was forgiven so much that he was re-hired by the BBC shortly after the dismissal.

I downloaded the book yesterday and haven't enjoyed it so far but I will persevere.

Am now on the second watch of the TV version.

Roussette · 04/05/2020 08:52

What new chat forum? I'm a bit slow, and have never been in the loop.

I imagine there has been NCing going on as MN referred to on our previous thread.

But I always think writing styles are distinctive, that certainly applies to me and possibly others which is why I never have. I think it is useful for when you are worried about your safety or privacy for genuine reasons. Otherwise, I findd it a bit devious TBH.

Roussette · 04/05/2020 08:56

@Myimaginarycathasfleas

So glad you are enjoying it! I binge watched it over a few days, and because it was in half hour episodes, it was not difficult. Just the thing for lockdown.

I'm not in the camp vilifying H for his Nazi uniform at a private party. Yes it was stupid but he was little more than a kid. People say and do worse and get away with it because they aren't in the public eye.

I'm all for calling him out for what he does as an adult while in the public eye, and I'll continue to do so, but I'm not interested in the daft carryings on of a very young prince and I certainly don't think they signified anything for his future.

I do believe in giving people a chance to redeem themselves. Unfortunately I'm not seeing that yet, he may be later than most coming to his senses.

Mummy195 · 04/05/2020 09:03

Roussette

Interesting that you should say that about NC.

In regards to MM, on the internet there was talk about how there are lots of ppl who go around posting under multiple names to troll her. So that it seems that lots more ppl hate her.
They found that during the SR IG account, there were lots of profiles that all come in right at the beginning of any post they have as if they have been waiting around for news on her and post all these negative comments and upvote each other so that the negatives up and appear first when you visit. Most of those posts were not posting anything or anywhere else, not following anyone. Seemed to have been created sorely for the use to 'criticise' MM. During lockdown someone even had time to monitor and do a spreadsheet of the posts. It had seemed like a co-ordinated attack, I guess most are from real ppl, but some are obviously prewritten. One of them forgot to edit, and for mothers day criticised MM for copying KM and posting baby pics - except SR did not post any baby pics.

Fair enough, I've never been in the know but don't really worry about that.

EthelMayFergus · 04/05/2020 09:03

Samcro who defended Danny Baker? I must've missed that, I thought he was rightfully demonised by everyone for that tweet and his reaction to being called out. I once spent 45 minutes in Danny Baker's company about ten years ago and I can honestly say that I have never met a more odious, arrogant wanker in my life. I'm now going to see if he was reemployed by the BBC as Mummy195 has asserted, because a lot of people there would have been pleased that he was sacked.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/05/2020 09:03

The new chat forum has the words mums and chat in its name. It has some similarities with MN but a different look and character. It's not really a competitor, as much as an alternative.

Roussette · 04/05/2020 09:05

I am so glad you said that, because that has always been my view of him but I've never actually met him so have refrained from every saying what my gut feeling was.
I think he felt he was untouchable.
As I understand it, all he's done is bring out some sort of podcast on BBC? Maybe I have that wrong.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 04/05/2020 09:05

@Roussette I looked at the new chat forum, I prefer it here for the very fact that I name change regularly. Not because I’m devious but I often over share. For example, dcs school, my old job, disability, my ethnicity & a couple of other things that are extremely outing. I’d rather be able to name change rather than not be able to post.

If people were so minded it would be easy to work out who I was and I obv don’t want that so I name change regularly 🤷🏻‍♀️

ButteryPuffin · 04/05/2020 09:08

radio guy makes a disgusting racist post and he is defended........strange days.

He hasn't been defended here. Everyone has said it was inexcusable.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 04/05/2020 09:08

God, that's a bit strange.

I had a nosy and decided not to bother. I waste enough time on here.

Roussette · 04/05/2020 09:09

I do know how tricky it is to not overshare and I've learnt that to my cost. I think if the reasons are genuine (e.g. oversharing) that's fine isn't it.... it's more when it's not done for genuine reasons that gets my goat.

Mummy195 · 04/05/2020 09:11

Here is another example of a pre-written post. Everyone knew about the Elephants illustration early on, and thought it would be released at theatres. But it came out during the lockdown. Initially lots of reviews came in low at 1 star on IMDB, mostly unhappy about the narration. Surprise, surprise.

Look how this pre-written one forgot to edit.

I've never liked Danny Baker not for any particular reason but he seemed to be part of that whole lad football thing going on in the 90s which I found completely obnoxious.
