Is there something seriously wrong with him?

If the press want to "get" them surely the easiest way to do that is ignore them completely?

It would rather scupper the British taxpayers' hopes of them becoming financially independent though.

I do feel sorry for them in some ways, not because of their immense privilege, or their treatment by the press that they have largely bought on themselves but because they just seem so out of their depth.

Even if they've lost their royal advisors, surely they must be taking some advice?

ScarletFever · 21/04/2020 08:09

I cant read the link, as the site is so bad, on mobile, filled with adverts and videos and of course, it's the daily shit mail

RosesandIris · 21/04/2020 08:22

The whole thing has the feel of a car without a driver, crashing down a hill with a ravine below. I think they are a disaster for each other and bring out each other’s worst points. Her craven need for attention and validation, his fear of being hounded, criticised and not being thought worthy.
She is his enabler, definitely. She is getting something out of feeling like she’s rescuing him, he needs to be rescued. Unfortunately they have both become paranoid and delusional in the process.
I do wonder what William must be feeling. First his mother, now his brother. If something awful does happen, he will have to pick up the pieces both on a professional and personal level.
It’s a modern day tragedy really. I find myself fascinated and compelled by it, but feel guilty because these are human beings who have completely lost their way.

Viviennemary · 21/04/2020 08:28

The Telegraph has put them firmly in their place. Grin strange how it's always somebody else telling lies never her.

RosesandIris · 21/04/2020 08:35

There are some parallels with Trump, dare I say.
The Press are the enemy, unless they’re being sycophantic . It’s always someone else’s fault, everyone else is telling lies, and ‘I’m A Very Special Person who is omniscient at all times.’

WickedlyPetite · 21/04/2020 08:51

The Telegraph have something to say on this - ouch Grin

BubblesBuddy · 21/04/2020 08:51

It’s PR advice. It’s about always being seen in a good light.

I love the comparison to Audrey Hepburn. Didn’t she win an Oscar or two? Grace Kelly managed to stay in Monaco with her Prince.

RosesandIris · 21/04/2020 08:53

Audrey Hepburn was a very genuine woman who did a lot of good in the world. She wasn’t a narcissist. I wouldn’t be surprised though if she is a role model.

WildCoastalWolf · 21/04/2020 08:54

They seem to have some misplaced notion that by attacking some parts of the media they will be fine or even favoured by other parts of the media. It doesn't work like that though.

I have noticed their celeb friends have gone very quiet of late...

The five friends who spoke to the People can't be too happy that they have been brandished as unauthorised gossips by Meghan in the court case.

Atleastthedoglovesme · 21/04/2020 08:55

Don't they realise the world is in crises and people are losing loved ones, losing jobs etc. Life as we know it is changing.

Why would we care about their opinions or the newspapers they plan to / or not to cooperate with at a time like this?

They are irrelevant narcissists and really showing their true colours.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/04/2020 08:57

The five friends who spoke to the People can't be too happy that they have been brandished as unauthorised gossips by Meghan in the court case.

Ah, but those were last year's friends. She has new friends now.

Viviennemary · 21/04/2020 08:57

The five frirnds should sll be cslled as witnesses. I wouldnt be surprised if she wins the case though and makes a great fanfare of donating the money to charity or their archiewell foundation.

Viviennemary · 21/04/2020 08:58

No edit button. Very annoying.

BubblesBuddy · 21/04/2020 09:03

The overwhelming opinion of barristers who know about these cases, and were interviewed at the time, is that she will win and yes, the money will be donated to her causes. However there’s great potential for damage too.

The Telegraph supports the Royal Family. They can rightly see that this an invent the is a self centred stunt. The newspapers concerned can certainly report but take their stories from other sources so plenty of options for comment! I think a media blackout would be best though.

BubblesBuddy · 21/04/2020 09:05

That this is a self centred stunt.

RosesandIris · 21/04/2020 09:05

It’s just so undignified.

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 09:07

So is grilling burgers while stripping.

RosesandIris · 21/04/2020 09:09

It’s also the Queens birthday today isn’t it? Is the timing coincidental?

LouMumsnet · 21/04/2020 10:15

Hi everyone.

We've had a fair few reports about this thread - as is always the case with threads of this nature. We've deleted several posts breaking our TGs, as you'll no doubt have noticed.

Above all, Mumsnet is a parenting site and our mission is to make parents lives easier. That's parents everywhere, including Meghan and Harry.

Posts designed to belittle and/or to attack looks, personality, parenting and mental health are likely to be deleted. They're simply not in the spirit of the site, and not what Mumsnet is about.

We understand that folk want to discuss people in the public eye and we're happy for those discussions to continue. But please remember that there are real people behind the headlines. Imagine being on the receiving end of posts before sharing them - and please bear that in mind going forward.

Peace and love.

Lunde · 21/04/2020 10:49

It has been noticeable in the last 6-8 months that several of Meghan's previous high profile "best friends" have simply disappeared from view in H&M's circle. I wonder if this coincided with the arrival of of legal papers and a realisation that they may get thrown under the bus in court proceedings. It was widely reported at the time that Meghan had sanctioned the interviews as "protocol" prevented her from speaking herself

I think that the court case will prove interesting. I don't think that Thomas Markle reacted as M expected. She expected him to run to the press straight away but by all accounts he sat on the letter for months and only gave it to the MOS after Meghans 5 friends gave their interviews to People and gave their own editorialised version of the letter.

Makeitgoaway · 21/04/2020 10:55

Surely, if you want to stay out of the papers it's really quite easy to achieve that in a world where you have no job and are being advised to stay at home Grin

Choux · 21/04/2020 11:13

Even if they've lost their royal advisors, surely they must be taking some advice?

Advisors cost money. As do lawyers to fight court cases. And LA security doesn't come cheap. Are they renting their mansion or is that a freebie? And they have no income at the moment and, due to the pandemic, reduced opportunity to generate future income.

So if you are looking to cut costs then why not do away with advisors? Afterall, you have chosen those particular advisors only because they always agree with what you plan anyway. Paying for 'yes men' is a waste of money.

Of course the wise would pay for someone to play devil's advocate / bring another perspective.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 11:21

Harry has had a lifetime of advisers. He had been brought up to understand how to play the game and know how things need to be done/said to get the desired effect. The rules haven't changed and he must have seen first hand what happens when you try to change them.

Goldengroveunleaving · 21/04/2020 11:25

I’d be much more likely to believe what I read about them if I knew they hadn’t corroborated it – they wouldn’t have been able to put their own spin on it and they wouldn’t have planted it. What they’ve done sounds like a bit of an own goal to me.

Similarly to what a PP said, it reminds me of when one of my children, aged about 8, used to say emphatically “I’m ignoring you!” – repeated at intervals in case I forgot. Grin

(Although their PR has been so poor anyway that it’s hard to imagine it could be any worse.)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/04/2020 11:29

I too have a bad feeling about all this. I think the situation, unless someone puts a stop to it, will deteriorate further and further until something truly horrendous happens

I totally agree and have thought the same

Surprised, though, that nobody seems to have mentioned the bit in their statement which says they "no longer receive any publicly funded support". It raises obvious questions about those security costs, though I don't suppose we'll ever find out the true story
