Royals and American media coverage

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

Oi, cut it out, I'm now craving chocolate. Which is a serious problem in these lockdown times.

7Penguins · 09/04/2020 22:31

Dandy order some, it's self-care at these times!

I have to say though, my all-time favourite dessert was a bar I ate in Germany as a child - Hanuta.
Amazon delivers boxes to the UK and I buy one from time to time. It's still good.

Tony’s chocaloney is just gorgeous isn’t it?
I love nut chocolate. But it has to be really good quality, not overly sweet and sickly.

LaMarschallin · 09/04/2020 22:38

TheMustressMhor

Ooh don't you think that Tony Chocolonely is very expensive?

Yeeeees.... but....

It lasts better.

No idea when I last bought a bar but it was the same month that "Delicious" magazine had a free bar strapped to the cover.

And I've still got some!

And, as a by-the-by, I love some nuts.

But the ones who exist in the very thick lined walls/shells...
Not even fun to crack.
Best left to moulder at the bottom of the store cupboard.

My absolute favourites are macadamia.

TheTiaraManager · 09/04/2020 22:39

DH bought my Ferrero Rocher today, best husband ever!

DandyArgo · 09/04/2020 22:41

Do you think there's been any media coverage in the US about what type of chocolate Harry and Meghan Sussex like?

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 22:47

Ferrero Rocher Dandy. It's what they serve at all the big posh functions. I've seen it on the telly in the ads.

7Penguins · 09/04/2020 22:48

Megs doesn’t eat chocolate. Harry is a Galaxy man.

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 22:50

Look, Tiara's husband bought her some. HaM are probably having a few at this very moment in their lockdown pad, watching Dynasty.

DandyArgo · 09/04/2020 22:50

HarryD Grin

That's very true.

That really is one of the best ad campaigns ever, such longevity.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 09/04/2020 22:54

They really need to bring back the Ambassadors Reception, perhaps H&M could be guests of honour?

7Penguins · 09/04/2020 22:55

How could I forget Toblerone - the duke of chocolate!
I haven’t had one in aaaages. I need to fix this ASAP.

DandyArgo · 09/04/2020 22:59

"Archewell Ambassador, with this Ferrero Rocher you are really spoiling us"

Needmoresleep · 09/04/2020 23:03

Nah, they would go for something American like Hershey’s Kisses

Needmoresleep · 09/04/2020 23:03

And Harry would stand there looking confused. Not chocolate as he knows it.

BarleylemonPenguin · 09/04/2020 23:36

Oh the irony of preaching about totalitarianism while at the same time making snide remarks about someone not to the manor born not knowing how to pronounce the name of an expensive wine. Looking down on others, loosening of the stays of civility when speaking of others, othering in general - remind me again about the dangers of that...

This reminds me of watching HaM, on one of their early outings together openly smirking at Liam Payne after his performance in a church.

Re Meghan and the unpronounceable wine name. I read that she could actually pronounce it but was irritated by the fact that other Americans could not.

MissEliza · 10/04/2020 01:30

@BarleylemonPenguin I thought it was just me that noticed that! I thought it was so rude and showed another side to their characters.

mathanxiety · 10/04/2020 03:05

Do you mean this?

The performance where William and Kate sat sucking lemons?

RosesandIris · 10/04/2020 06:49

That’s very strangely written. The language is tortuous!

LaMarschallin · 10/04/2020 06:54

RosesandIris

That’s very strangely written. The language is tortuous!

Is it?

Oh dear.

Oddly enough, I read it thinking what a pleasant change it was from the usual tabloid use of language that we often see.

RosesandIris · 10/04/2020 06:56

Perhaps it’s just me...

Myimaginarypenguinhasnofleas · 10/04/2020 07:05

Its a very mannered writing style, not sure I could read a lot of it. But La Mar is right, it makes a change from the cliched drivel repeated over and over in the tabloids.

And he has a point. Canada responded in their hour of need and made them welcome, respecting their privacy and providing them with exactly what they claimed they wanted, and now must feel somewhat used. After all the gushing they did just a flit, like bad tenants dodging the rent.

LaMarschallin · 10/04/2020 07:06

Nah...
Probably just me.

My prose is never un-purpled.

Seriously, though, it did seem a pleasant change from the usual tabloid vocabulary of about 500 words.

LaMarschallin · 10/04/2020 07:07
