Ok @Tsukukuviris, having appeared on the thread with some really useful and enlightening perspectives about race and Meghan, which other posters (including myself) might not have come across otherwise, you've now moved into the gear of 'why are these threads/personal criticism allowed?'. It is something we're familiar with and that other posters have persisted with in the past too. However, it's not up to you to decide what people can or should discuss. Free speech as long as it observes Talk guidelines is the way it works and MN are the moderators. If you don't see the need for them, so what? People are different - which was, ironically, sort of the lesson of your first post.
(awaits the 'I will challenge... replies that we've had before from other posters, and no doubt will again..)
If you really don't like the threads, there are - as Groucho Marx didn't say - others.

apart from a smattering of ‘royalists’, ordinary citizens barely tolerate (the RF) and, in most cases, actively dislike their roles and what they stand for

As a republican I'm aware of the irony of playing devil's advocate, but I'm not sure this is so. Depressingly, just about every poll ever taken supports keeping them - though probably a certain amount of that reflects respect for the Queen herself and it may or may not change when we get Charles

Personally I think 100 yars of the Windsors is enough and that the Queen's passing would be an ideal opportunity to get rid of the whole lot, but I also recognise that this is (so far) a minority view

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 21:28

Why is there a picture of a monkey in a post?

TimeLady · 08/03/2020 21:29

Back on topic (please) .....I wonder if they’re going to turn out like the Beckhams, having to release ‘stories’ to the press practically every day to stay in the public eye?

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 21:31

@Isntcoffeewonderful
Wow

I read somewhere today that support for the RF is an inch deep and a mile wide and will one day just blow away.

I think I agree with that.

I like that quote Encyclo, but then I guess I would!! Wink

Oh, and like yourself I wondered about the monkey image ... a bit unfortunate, perhaps, given the connection between organ grinders and monkeys and that it's Harry who was referred to as the organ grinder

SamanthaBrique · 08/03/2020 21:39

all i saw yesterday was a scarlet woman upstaging her organ grinder, on his important day.

This plus a picture of a monkey and I'm actually speechless.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/03/2020 21:41

coffee ??? Really?

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 08/03/2020 21:43

Ok the wording generally apart from that phrase

I was generalising not going into the specific lines I should have specially said the metaphor is inappropriate

Thought that would be clear to the poster as the image is the metaphor visualised but ok

yolofish · 08/03/2020 21:44

I've reported the monkey photo and post btw.

I don’t think it’s great

My priority was getting the post down

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 08/03/2020 21:51

I’m quite interested in how many would have missed the post (as we all skimread and don’t go back) if I hadn’t mentioned it

It was a shit post we can all agree

I hope not sunshine I’m I’ll lying in bed I’ll and the only other threads are Coronavirus related. I’m sorry but the we love Meghan and Harry thread was really boring .

stairway · 08/03/2020 22:00

Ill that should read.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 08/03/2020 22:04

The organ grinder is in charge of the monkey.
I saw it as Meghan is in charge, Harry is the monkey. But as Meghan is biracial, black , a woman of colour.( I'm really unsure of the correct terminology)
That picture will most definitely be seen as a racist post.

yolofish · 08/03/2020 22:06

sunshine can I just say again that I reported that post?

Some of us dont want to post on a thread that says OMG she is so BEAUTIFL, he looks so HAPPY, basically because although we'd quite like them to be happy we really don't want to have our piss taken over it, or pay for it.

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 22:09

Stop trying to explain it away. It's extremely racist, end of. It must be exhausting, the knots you have to tie yourselves into.
A picture of a monkey in a red outfit? Hmm

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/03/2020 22:10

Quite a few of us must have reported the post quite rightly as I’ve received the mass email wording

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 08/03/2020 22:10

Who are you talking to Sunshine?

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 22:16

I was referring to Absolutepowercorrupts, who intentionally or otherwise has got it wrong. The post referred to Meghan as the monkey upstaging it's organ grinder. And then a picture of a monkey in a red outfit. So no idea how Harry is meant to be the monkey in that scenario
