Here's a follow on to the last thread, which was really enjoyable.

The penguin posters were having fun - an extraordinary concept, I know - and producing very funny lines. So who spoilt the mood, hmm?

DandyPenguin · 11/03/2020 18:27

GrinGrin Worfsie I’m glad it’s not just me with the prancing. If you’re lucky you’ll get peguin livers too.

I fully expect when I next look at this thread it will have been censored by MNHQ. Despite the consensus being that the prank was a low down thing to do, there have been posters who have dared to criticise M&Hs behaviour and clearly that simply isn’t allowed. There seems to be a campaign to remove discussion about the Sussex’s unless it’s about the rule of succession.

In other parts of the forum there are threads piling onto posters who ask whether to take a child to A&E. There are troll hunts, people calling each other pathetic and selfish on coronavirus threads etc. These are rarely pulled. Unless you are going to apply the same rigorous standards of moderation to all other running threads, picking on this one seems petty and arbitrary. A quick look at threads about Bake Off, Britain’s Got Talent, the Trump threads and the UK Government ones, reveals some very pointed insults and jokes about the people involved. It seems arbitrary and hypocritical to be pulling threads about a major upheaval within the Royal Family.

Until the end of the month Harry and Meghan are (still) senior royals whose security we are contributing to. Their position and prominence mean people want to discuss their behaviour and their actions just as they do with other public figures.. That doesn’t mean racism or criticism regarding being away from their baby are ok because they absolutely aren’t. But for heavens sake stop with the thread about a thread argument unless you are willing to regularly start pulling other continuing threads in other sections.

HarryDaylight · 11/03/2020 18:33

I have noticed something on these threads that niggles me: there are are people who post comments and discuss, argue, share thoughtful dialogue to the matter being discussed, and all add to the conversation going forward. Then there are are people who criticise people who have posted, almost as if they wish to distress rather than add a valid point. They don't add anything but negativity, and halt the flow of the conversation, usually in a pompous manner.

I don't think the moderators at MNHQ are doing their job properly. If I have noticed, why haven't they? I find it incredibly sad to read that a popular poster was called witless and unpleasant.

7Worfs · 11/03/2020 18:40

Harry yes. There are a few posters who regularly disagree with the prevailing opinion, but don’t do it in a sneering, holier than thou way, nor do they push an agenda. User Encyclo for example, who often even engages in jokes.

Then there’s the posters who swarm in with an agenda to derail - bait and report seem to be a common tactic.

I respectfully put that we continue to engage with the former, and ignore the latter.

Rainbows8117 · 11/03/2020 18:41

How do you know that people are reporting these threads? That's a bit paranoid. Maybe MNHQ are just monitoring them.
I haven't reported a post since about 5 threads ago, or possibly even earlier than that.

Would you think it's ok for one of us to call H/MM paranoid? Or is that just reserved for me.

I don't care btw, it's just frustrating the hypocrisy on here!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/03/2020 18:42

Excellent post, rainbows - and the reason we know HQ look to MNers to report posts is that they frequently say so, usually with something along the lines of "drop us a line if there's something you want us to look at"

HarryDaylight · 11/03/2020 18:43

Yes you're right, 7Worfs I'm sorry for derailing the thread.

DandyPenguin · 11/03/2020 18:44

Good discussion.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 18:45

TerretNoirTots? or, for a more British take, ThistledownTots?

I am envisaging lots of small children being inculcated in the very important art of wine tasting from an early age. There'd be a lot of mess, what with the spitting and all, and probably not very hygienic actually.

Did anyone else's 'tots' (as I call them) love Club Penguin? Mine were bloody addicted.

Neatly bring thread back to penguins btw.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/03/2020 18:49

Just seen an article in the DM from purported friends of MM. Either her friends need to be quiet or the DM is stirring up even more trouble.

7Worfs · 11/03/2020 18:57

Harry I liked your post and was trying to build on what you said, sorry if it didn't come across that way. Cake

yolo I have a baby and I don't know what Club Penguin is Shock I also have never been to a baby group, and mat leave is about to end. Ah well! Grin

mrscampbell I saw the headline and rolled my eyes; I think more knowledgeable posters have explained that when a paper says they are quoting, they do have evidence that will be accepted in court. So it's either MM really saying that, or someone who is verifiably in her circle is making it up.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/03/2020 19:00

It is such a mean spirited article, I really hope it isn't coming from Meghan's friends.

HarryDaylight · 11/03/2020 19:01

7Worfs Smile

Roussette · 11/03/2020 19:04

Would you think it's ok for one of us to call H/MM paranoid?

They've been called a helluva lot worse than that on these numerous threads. I said isn't that a bit paranoid. Not YOU are paranoid.

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 19:09

I remember Club Penguin!!! And Pingu. Did Pingu really get drunk and wee in the wardrobe?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/03/2020 19:10

There seems to be a campaign to remove discussion about the Sussex’s

Yes, deliberate attempts to get threads deleted are something else HQ have confirmed on the forum - more than once

And that latest Mail article was vile, even by their standards ... but not as vile as some of the readers' comments

yolofish · 11/03/2020 19:16

oh Pingu! I bloody loved Pingu. Sadly the DDs were more into Teletubbies, and then that thing where you 'gave yourself a shiney' for doing something. No idea what it was called but we had a phase where all the cutlery was constantly wrapped in tinfoil. Bit of a bugger if you wanted to eat. It seemed to go on for a long time.

Also some Australian fairies? that is not a euphemism, it was fairies floating about in Australia. If anyone can remember, please enlightent me, it must have been early 2000s.

lizzie1970a · 11/03/2020 19:20

Delurking to say my kids loved Club Penguin. I think they were called puffles.

The press obviously saved up the info about the prank until after the events. I don't know if it was Harry or not. He was naive if it was.

lizzie1970a · 11/03/2020 19:21

Loved Pingu too, we used to do the noise he made all the time Smile

yolofish · 11/03/2020 19:22

puffles YES lizzie! and you could buy books that helped you uncode whatever it was! (cba to quite honest...)

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 19:24

I’m sure Mr Poppers Penguins was based on Pingu. Pingu Prances the Polka in Philadelphia. The state, not the cheese.

lizzie1970a · 11/03/2020 19:25

My son especially loved them. It was all so innocent and safe. I think they could speak to each other but set phrases, like Hi etc. Haha, I can't remember the code books. I let him get on with it as he was about 9 then. He then went on to some kind of free online game where it was set in medieval times and they'd go around collecting coins and building things, can't remember the name though. I was fond of Club Penguin. The penguins were cute.

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 19:27

Was Club Penguin owned by Disney? Oh yes, one quick google later tells me that Disney Canada were involved.

Pingu reboot.
