I sort of agree with you. It’s not on to criticise MM for her white legs, or long waist etc. Just like it’s in extremely poor taste to put odds on how long her marriage will last, or to criticise anything to do with Archie. Same principles go for H.
But you cannot deny (and they seemingly don’t either) that appearances matter. See Smartworks.
It’s indicative of something that MM is wearing more apparent makeup than ever before (inside the RF), when it’s known that she was an actress and used to model. It’s indicative of something that the look she is emulating is the Kim Kardashian look. Humans can and do impute things from appearances, and humans can and do communicate via their appearance.
H&M have said they want more privacy and a quieter life. If MM had turned up at Mansion House looking like she wasn’t appealing to the cameras (let’s face it, she didn’t get dressed up like for whoever was inside the building) that would be in keeping. But she has turned up looking like the one person who seeks the limelight more voraciously than any other human on the planet (fake white teeth, hair extensions, highly made up, skin tight dress, high high heels, red lips). She’s no ingenou. She’s not a private individual going about her business, doing the teeth and the hair and flying her MUA from across the Atlantic Ocean because she just fancies it/ feels good about it/ whatever other reason private people have for doing these things. She knew there would be cameras.
It’s disingenuous to imply that all women want the same thing, that none of us would do anything we can to gain the advantage, that we’re all for the sisterhood, all feminists - or that we should be. MM is no Simone de Beauvoir, Gloria Steinem, Germaine Greer. She’s not even an Oprah type of feminist, or an Angelina Jolie (who has put in time and money and lent earned fame) or an Emma Watson (Oxford and Brown graduate) or an Amal Clooney (UN work in human trafficking realm) type of feminist. I don’t know that she is a feminist. Going by what I’ve seen and read of her over the last 3 years, she doesn’t seem to me to be a feminist much beyond recognising/relating to women who are disadvantaged because of their womanhood. As such, I have no qualms in assuming her appearance is a means to a feminism-neutral end. And as such, not above feminism-neutral critique. If she wants to play, let’s play 🤷♀️
