I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

I hope this, The Royal Statement, is taught in media degrees from henceforth. It’s quite the masterclass.

OVienna · 22/02/2020 10:42

Sorry, I know I am repeating. But I wanted to see if first hand before frothing...

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 10:43

Soz for my ‘from henceforth’ tautology. I’ll hang my non-royal head in shame.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 10:44

The point about how Harry and Archie will always have royal blood, though, concedes that Meghan herself only remains royal by being married. She has to hang onto him for that.

Archie will not really have a sense of being royal, now, anyway. He'll be a generic rich person's child.

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 10:44

If there is no jurisdiction over the use of the world Royal then I would love to know what legality or compromise agreement has occurred for H&M to agree they won't use it, because it's clear as day it was their full intention to use it.

Wheresthebeach · 22/02/2020 10:44

Just wow. Every time I think it's calming down, they pull another stunt.

It's so childish - basically its 'you can't make us not use the word Royal, we're being so good to co-operate with your request'. They deserve to be cut off financially completely. The 34 million they already have just for being born should be enough to get by on.

They are so self important it hurts to read.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 10:48

That wasn't a go at Archie in any way. And I can see that there may be some advantages to not having to do the things the Cambridge children to like the Christmas Day church walk. He'll still be under scrutiny though. There will be interest in where he goes to school etc. What I meant was that growing up so far from his dad's side of the family means he won't really get a sense of being royal and all those family connections and traditions (though some won't be much of a loss). His upbringing will be more that of a generic child in a wealthy, privileged American family. But without much actual family.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 10:49

The radio news headline I heard at half past was 'Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have agreed not to use...' Giving them the agency. That's from the BBC.

I hope Thread 19 has a nice, zippy name.

Or, at least, gets the Capitalisation it merits Smile

Commonwealth Capers and who will bow to whom?

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 11:02

That’s good Buttery!

I’m offering up the wording ‘A saddening’.

RoseAndRose · 22/02/2020 11:05

If there is no jurisdiction over the use of the world Royal

which there can't be, as herevare about 165 countries with monarchies, each of whchbwill have a view on who/what should use the word. Only the very insular wouldn't know thus, and nit-picking around it looks a bit twattish in the barrack-room lawyer vein

then I would love to know what legality or compromise agreement has occurred for H&M to agree they won't use it, because it's clear as day it was their full intention to use it

A more specific set of restrictions in regard to trading on connections to the British Royal family, unless the Royal family has been consulted and has agreed to the activity and vetted the other key stakeholders. And the palace wouid presumably back this up by being ready to publicly repudiate that any non-approved actions were indeed Royal

Yy to this LaMa. I’m chuckling btw at your d(D)eity comment.

I enjoyed the Shakespeare posts.
Harry and Meghan are coming across unbelievably petty to be IGing so openly about their kindness in not using a royal title overseas despite HMQ having no jurisdiction over it (Hmm when they said they wanted to step down from being full time royals- why do they even need a title)

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8030241/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-stop-using-Sussex-Royal-brand-territory-spring.html

and absolutely none of this works with the dignified global statespeople with the common touch persona that they want to be seen as.

Also I thought the BBC article showed a bit the gloves coming off- that note about not using ‘royal’ being inherent to ‘the logic’ of them wanting to step down. It’s absolutely true of course but it is also kind of saying the Sussexes position is illogical, and rather openly, which suggests like Buttery said, a Palace that must be fuming.

Froq · 22/02/2020 11:10

Oooo we’ve nearly finished thread 18.

Congrats everyone for keeping it going and not allowing it to be derailed and deleted.

Looking forward to joining you all over in number 19 Brew

I'd save April Fools until nearer April, and would go for bastardised Shakespeare 'Spring is icumen in'

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 11:12

I hope you’re setting it up Froq?
