I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

froq they've chosen their PR people to do this shit. They obviously believe in it...because the PR team will be acting on their instructions, even if the PR bods have advised against it. And the PR team is American, so doesnt have the understanding of the cultural associations (as I think I may have said upthread).

Because for Sunshine Sachs - and all of them - their bottom line matters more, eventually, than the client. And for SS, they can come out of this in a good light in terms of crisis management: we advised against but the client wouldn't listen. THIS is the way we would have done it..

DivinationDandy · 21/02/2020 23:36

That new statement is a complete shit-show.

FizzyLimes · 21/02/2020 23:38

The national theatre are querying whether she has time to be their patron

Butterymuffin · 21/02/2020 23:42

I thought the foundation model allowed them to make money from it though, because you can draw a salary? Whereas otherwise they'll be supporting good causes but also having to take on paid public speaking gigs etc.?

Froq · 21/02/2020 23:42

Yes you’re both right about the PR. Nothing would go out without their approval either.

It’s just hard to believe how it’s got to this point, it all seems so adversarial. You’d think there’d been a huge disastrous fallout. I suppose for all we know there could have been but it such a flip from that engagement interview to now.

The funding for security thing will continue to rile people. Whilst I understand them needing security, I don’t get why we’re paying for it. They’re the ones choosing to put themselves out there, they’re not obligated to attend any events. Just stay in and give me my £1 back.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 21/02/2020 23:44

They will get security because of Diana. No way will such a situation be allowed to happen again imo

DivinationDandy · 21/02/2020 23:46

@Froq I would have had to hand it to them if at the end of the statement they’d put:

PS: By the way, we’re okay, thank you for asking Wink

Shown a bit of humour and levity. They’ve got the freedom to be more relaxed tone-wise, they should utilise it and be self deprecating about the fact that they so clearly want to prove negative rumours wrong and that it was them and not that bastards Queen who really had the moral high(grove) ground.

Instead they’ve going hard on the narrative of “well, what we got wanted, actually apart from the ice cream we demanded along with our cake but which the old bag in charge wouldn’t let us have because she’s a stupid mean poo-poo.

SussexRoyalties · 21/02/2020 23:48

Has it only been 6 or 7 weeks since all this kicked off?

MissEliza · 21/02/2020 23:51

They are making themselves look weak and defensive. I reckon MM is crapping it.

annielouise · 21/02/2020 23:52

I don't know much about foundations Buttery but would have thought they'd need more full-time staff to run it, so money going out.

Froq · 21/02/2020 23:54

Grin that would have been great, Dandy.

Next statement they put out we should play drink bingo for every time ‘Duke’ and ‘Duchess’ is mentioned.

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 21/02/2020 23:57

Yes annie, perhaps that's it. More staff, more work, more opportunities for them to get criticised because they're setting the agenda. Whereas if they support particular charities, it will seem like having a go at the charities to criticise what they do.

DivinationDandy · 21/02/2020 23:58

Oh yes to the drinking game Froq definitely - next time they put out a statement it’s a date Grin

I did get to the point in reading it where I thought now surely you don’t have to say your/their name again?

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 22/02/2020 00:00

I feel sad that MM will soon have no use for Harry. I am very worried about his emotional state and what could happen if the rug gets pulled out from underneath him.

StartupRepair · 22/02/2020 00:00

They have managed to shoot themselves in the foot in so many ways since the engagement interview.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 00:05

I don’t know I’m beginning to think Harry is equally in the driving seat. It’s The wording of the blind- she doesn’t want to be seen as the evil one which makes me think that.

I could be wrong of course.

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 00:07

I don’t think Meghan will be coming to the UK in March. Harry will have to go. Meghan will stay behind because Archie is unwell or because of the risk of coronavirus, which to be fair, is likely to be a legitimate reason in a week or two.

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 00:07

I'm up for that @Froq as long as it's not on a school night!

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 00:10

@MissEliza spoilsport Wink

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 00:37

@DivinationDandy oh alright then.

PelicanPie · 22/02/2020 01:37

My opinion of Harry has gone through the floor in the past year over all this. I thought he was doing genuinely good work and I admired him. He has always been pretty likeable despite some mistakes when he was younger.
He looks like a prize fool now. Arrogant, self satisfied and entitled. Someone who lectured about climate change yet does nothing in his personal life to show he’s making sacrifices himself. Someone who chooses a celeb event where he can shamelessly tout for work on behalf of his wife over a military commitment.
He’s embarrassed the Queen and let down his brother and sister in law.
He couldn’t be bothered to meet his father in law before he got married.
She is what she is, but surely he should know much better. He knows the rules. He understands how privileged he is and what is required in return.
He’s made a mockery of his family and made a complete arse of himself. He and Meghan will be a laughing stock before the year is out.
It’s an absolute joke, all of it.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 06:06

Got to say my opinion of him has lowered as well, although I'm not entirely sure if what were seeing now is the true person or circumstances bringing out the worst. Can happen.

The main thing that bothered me is him making no attempt to meet his FIL or any of his wife's relatives save Doria and even with D: was it a formal organised visit or a 'dropping by' at Invictus? Then no empathy with regards to TM welfare in dealing with press intrusion. There seemed to be no questioning of how flippantly his future wife was organising her parents arrangements to be part of the wedding - sending shoes and expecting them to arrive last minute??. I would certainly question my fiancee if they did that. But he seems to have been completely blindsided by love.

Then there was the Africa tour with the big unnecessary bombshell and the scowling at the reporter trying to highlight his work, the dismissive 'Ask them' wtf? It's literally what you're there for, to highlight their cause. It just seemed like the spoilt, entitled part of his personality had been pandered to.

The last straw was him and his wife both beaming so inappropriately like school children at Canada House, leaving Archie behind and not even giving his Gran a last hold.

Am interesting article by the BBC regarding the Windsor and Sussex cases.

Harry and Meghan to end use of 'SussexRoyal' brand www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51593708

BBC saying here that loss of the name SussexRoyal will be a blow.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 06:58

That’s interesting Yehdivvy
