I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

I enjoyed the Shakespeare posts

peridito · 22/02/2020 09:32

I like Shakespeare .
I also liked Nanna's translation ,I think it requires a certain skill to put Shakespeare into everyday language .Not a skill I have and I admire those who do .
It was Worf's remark about the BBC article going over most ppl's heads that I found patronising .

katiegoestoaldi · 22/02/2020 09:32

DM claiming HMQ brought in the lawyers which is what made the wandering duo back down so quickly and completely

I very much appreciated the translation of the Shakespeare post. Especially useful when you've had little sleep and have the rumblings of a headache emerging.

I feel underneath all this is some bad blood that's not being mentioned. The Sussex duo have seemed in a bit of hurry possibly pushed? Into their actions these last couple of months and the result is lots of untidyness. It's almost as if they've been personally given rope to hang themselves on purpose.

Plus the BBC article seems overly personal.
Declining standards aside, it's not the Daily Mail.

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 09:33

LaM it’s good to discuss these things I think, we are very civil about it. I notice you post less, your wits are missed!

I see I am being accused by proxy (someone is offended on others behalf, hypothetical people no less!), to that I will quote Eleanor Roosevelt, and unlike MM I won’t try to pass it off as my own:

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 09:36

Can't we apply the usual rule that if you don't like it, scroll on by? It seems to work best for the smooth running of the thread.

I find it very interesting that the BBC are now freely making comparisons to Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII, and to Prince Hal. Those work for a certain generation (is that what you meant @7Worfs?) as potent historical / literary symbols of spoilt, immature royalty gone wrong. If the BBC now feel they can do that then they must really feel there is a decisive break in sympathy between the Palace and the Sussexes.

OVienna · 22/02/2020 09:36

I'm glad they have to drop the royal. The cheek of them thinking they could just tell us how things were going to be - like a poster above said, the 'apologise after, dont ask permission before' approach. It was high stakes but just shows where the land lies in terms of their egos and also how they were getting egged on, I reckon. If they do a tell-all now they will really be exposed as hypocrites. It wasn't all about the press intrusion, it was about opportunity to at least an equal degree.

peridito · 22/02/2020 09:40

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent tell that to the millions of people who lack the priveleges and confidence that so many of us have enjoyed for generations without a thought .

What a shallow remark .

peridito · 22/02/2020 09:44

Ask away Buttery ,personally I'm happy with commenting on things I disagree with .

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 09:44

Looking at the Mail article, there is still confusion about whether they're setting up their own organisation or not. It says

A spokesman for the Sussexes said last night: ‘While the Duke and Duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organisation, given the specific UK Government rules surrounding use of the word “Royal”, it has been therefore agreed their non-profit organisation, when it is announced this spring, will not be named Sussex Royal Foundation.

But their own website statement said they'd be working with other organisations, not setting up a foundation after all. Clear as mud...

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 09:47

Buttery the thing about that was, they listed all the ways Wallis was treated, then included quotes how some think Meghan was treated worse.
Without saying anything, they say it’s poppycock; there’s just no comparison between the treatment of the two.

Disclaimer - the above post did not patronise anyone, I’m offering my reading. Wink

Cuttingthegrass · 22/02/2020 09:47

I enjoyed the translation. Thank you.

Alsohuman · 22/02/2020 09:48

In other words, they’re running round like headless chickens. There’s no strategy, no plan, just lurching from one idiocy to the next. Fuckwits, the pair of them.

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 09:51

I simply can't believe the arrogance of those two saying that neither the Queen nor the government have jurisdiction overseas over the use of the word royal.

yolofish · 22/02/2020 09:52

I like to think that I'm normally quite good at seeing things from someone else's POV - not necessarily agreeing with them! - but in this particular case I really cannot understand what they think they are doing.

It all seems as if they've 'lost' - lost the security of being within the fold, lost the relationships with the family - and I dont think H's were that bad before M came on the scene, lost the opportunity to change the world they wanted to.

And what have they gained?

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 09:52

The Queen has shown a strong hand with the bringing in of Lawyers. I wonder if she's fed up of being portrayed as a monarch who hasn't quite had her finger on the button with the whole PA debacle and is over now compensating.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 09:53

Now over compensating.

DivinationDandy · 22/02/2020 09:56

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things; Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet Meghan and her Romeo Harry.

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 09:57

yolo I think they really didn’t expect the Queen will back them into a corner like that. She surprised everyone - starting off slowly, kind and personal statements, then BAM!

The Sussexes are now lashing out from the corner they’ve been backed to, unfortunately.

Cuttingthegrass · 22/02/2020 09:58

I wonder if RF have retained on a block booking to include the legal advice required for PA and all the divorces being announced. BOGOF???

OVienna · 22/02/2020 09:58

Where is the statement on the website? Have they removed it?

mrscampbellblackagain · 22/02/2020 09:58

The rf need to start paying for all the overseas security for Harry and Meghan. That much increased cost should not be borne by any taxpayers.

The royals have loads of money and it would be good pr for them to cover the security costs.

The Queen has devoted her life to serving the monarchy. I don't think she was ever going to allow an American actress to exploit it and cheapen it.
