I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

It’s like they’ve all gone ‘fuck it. If Harry can quit and move to Canada I’m getting a bloody divorce’.

Grin i suspect there’s probably something in that. Or similarly - spotlight’s on Harry, quick put out the statement now while he’s Mr Chief Letting The Royal Side Down.

WinnieTheW0rm · 17/02/2020 21:44

"And yes I think it was deliberately sabotaged"

I agree. The post that MNHQ mentioned in the deletion message was badly misrepresented by the poster who said she had reported it.

However, despite losing one thread, the discussion continues (or at least the place for it is restored, as there isn't much going on at the moment, other than waiting for the final exit) and 17 threadsworth of OK should show that it's not nasty.

But I would urge people not to use sarcastic hyperbole. No matter how blatant, there might be someone who takes it at face value.

Froq · 17/02/2020 23:35

Grin I can see it now, Dandy. They wait for the Chinese porn redirect story to drop then it’s GO GO GO get the divorce news out!

Here’s Harry’s Apple TV & Oprah gig...

Prince Harry's series on mental health with Oprah Winfrey involves visits to hospitals and treatment centres in the UK, charity reveals

I hope that PH's programme is a good, sound examination of MH problems and treatments and not too "Oprahrized" - Oprah has shown a predilection for junk science and that concerns me - she has given time to many questionable groups in the pasts

  • anti vaxers
  • helped plug "the Secret" based on law of attraction/positive thinking to cure mh, financial and physical problems. One Oprah viewer ditched her breast cancer treatment to "heal herself" through positive thinking and later died.
  • promoted the work of John of God - a self proclaimed spiritual healer who used carnival tricks. Currently serving 19 years in prison for sexually abusing and/or raping over 200 women that he was supposedly "treating"
  • initially supported Dr Oz - accused of quack treatments
  • invented Dr Phil who is accused of unethical treatment

So I really hope that this will be a serious programme that is A. not just Harry talking about losing his mother 23 years ago, or B. a lurch into a junk science agenda such as encouraging people to stop all mh medication and think positive thoughts etc

Winterlife · 18/02/2020 02:33

Dr. Oz is not a quack. But to fill air space, some products on his show are not scientifically sound.

Dr. Phil has a huge ego, and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Most people for whom he has paid for treatment are grateful to him, and he only refers patients to well established programs of treatment.

I happen to believe Harry is a dimwit and Meghan is a grifter. But I don’t blame her for his decisions. I think it’s just easier to say things changed because of her, which likely isn’t true.

IrmaFayLear · 18/02/2020 08:31

I have not really posted on these threads but have followed them and enjoyed the witticisms.

To stave off the saboteurs (honestly, who could be bothered?!) perhaps one could type IGNORE!!!! after reading such a post so that racist/unpleasant comments/links are left in isolation to be deleted or left in mid-air but certainly not responded to thereby jeopardising entire thread.

peridito · 18/02/2020 08:35

How exactly does the supposed sabotage work ?

Do a handful of ppl post something which most on the thread disagree with get together and throw buns at eachother ?

IrmaFayLear · 18/02/2020 08:37

Disingenuous post.

Meanwhile, i other news..

The Snowdons have also announced they are to divorce. Both they and the Phillips seem to have achieved this quietly. And Lord Snowdon was born into the same position in the RF as Archie, and his distance from the throne now means he and his sibling and their descendants barely make public consciousness as royal. Lord Snowdon runs a successful business, based on his own skill, and I suppose that's what Archie will also need to do idc

FramboiseRoyal · 18/02/2020 10:57

And Lord Snowdon was born into the same position in the RF as Archie

Not quite. When Charles becomes king, Archie will be a prince and an HRH, unless Charles issues new Letters Patent. It's certainly possible that Harry and Meghan will choose for Archie not to use that title, but as a prince and grandson of the monarch, he will potentially be more prominent in the public eye than the non-royal nephew of the monarch.

Needthechat333 · 18/02/2020 14:14

I’m hoping all this mess means the Royal Family, as a concept, comes to an end. Given that would be pretty drastic, happy to accept slimmed down version instead! Couples should be free to divorce if they are unhappy ... quite similarly, couples should also be free to relocate countries, change jobs and roles as they wish. BUT the clincher is the public funding. Whilst they receive public money for security and escape a huge swathe of taxes, then the public are right to ask questions. Perhaps I’m too simplistic - if the RF don’t want scrutiny and potential criticism, step away from the duchies, give up public security, pay your taxes just like everyone else in this country. I’m sure if they just paid the inheritance and other tax they should then it would be many multiples of all the volunteer and charity work they put in - majorly change lives!

Needthechat333 · 18/02/2020 14:15

Mmm, I’m wondering if anyone had ever calculated how much enrichment runs to the royals because of the taxes they avoid (esp inheritance tax). The rich keep getting richer and all that.

Needthechat333 · 18/02/2020 14:23

Sorry that I keep harping on about the public funding of security and tax breaks. It just really bugs me that these people have this ridiculous benefit ... feels so unfair given the inequality in the world and pretty sure any “work” they perform doesn’t event tough the sides financially

DulciUke · 18/02/2020 14:28

Bewildered American here. Doesn't the Queen already pay tax? Are all of her family exempt from taxes, or just some? Or do they pay tax, just not the inheritance tax?

On a totally frivolous note, I had never seen a photo of Lord Snowden before and didn't realize how much he resembles his father. Looks like a spitting image.

peridito · 18/02/2020 16:35

Dulci as posters on these threads know ,I am unable to summarise .Or punctuate correctly .

.But I can copy and paste Smile so extracts below from
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finances_of_the_British_royal_family

The British government supports the monarch and some other members of the House of Windsor financially[1] by means of the Sovereign Grant, a percentage of the annual profits of the Crown Estate which is intended to meet the costs of the sovereign's official expenditures.[2] This includes the costs of the upkeep of the various royal residences, staffing, travel and state visits, public engagements, and official entertainment.[3] Other sources of income include revenues from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, a parliamentary annuity, and income from private investments

Taxation
The Crown has a legal tax-exempt status because certain acts of parliament do not apply to it. Crown bodies such as The Duchy of Lancaster are not subject to legislation concerning income tax, capital gains tax or inheritance tax. Furthermore, the Sovereign has no legal liability to pay such taxes. The Duchy of Cornwall has a Crown exemption and the Prince of Wales is not legally liable to pay income tax on Duchy revenues.

The Queen voluntarily pays a sum equivalent to income tax on her private income and income from the Privy Purse (which includes the Duchy of Lancaster) that is not used for official purposes. The Sovereign Grant is exempted. A sum equivalent to capital gains tax is voluntarily paid on any gains from the disposal of private assets made after 5 April 1993

DulciUke · 18/02/2020 17:12

Thanks, peridito.

WinnieTheW0rm · 18/02/2020 17:23

Looks like Royal Spring is early March:

They are invited to the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall before joining the Queen at the annual Commonwealth Day Service.

The Duke and Duchess are both the President and Vice President of Queen Elizabeth's Commonwealth Trust. As this will be their final appearance as senior members of the royal family, there are hopes that it will be a meaningful engagement for the two of them.

As the Royal Collection sells both Buck House and Highgrove candles, I don't see why the sniping about this.

Poppyfields21 · 18/02/2020 18:28

Rose not sure if you’re joking?

RoseAndRose · 18/02/2020 18:39

You can google the Royal Collection, and see what is sold.

It includes candles.

(Really not sure why that could be a joke)

Froq · 18/02/2020 18:48

Rose the blind is referencing Gwyneth’s candles.

If true, you should get one of Meg’s on preorder, I’ve heard they’re fannytastic.

Rose this article may make things clearer. By the peerless Hadley Freeman.

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/jan/13/why-is-gwyneth-paltrow-selling-a-candle-that-smells-like-her-vagina-goop

yolofish · 18/02/2020 19:23

So basically GP marketing guru had a meeting with Megz in order to discuss how to go forward (in mktg speak).

Gwynnie is one of those people I have an irrational hatred for, despite never having met the woman - nor being likely to.

DivinationDandy · 18/02/2020 20:28

You’re so right Rose, I don’t see the sniping about this either given the Royal Collection sells candles. After all:

One single joking comment is definitely sniping,

A joke about Gwyneth Paltrow is definitely actually a joke about MM.

The piece definitely said the Sussexes are going to sell candles.

We all know The Sussexes run a property that’s partially open to the public and is a tourist attraction with a shop just like Buck Palace or Highgrove Gardens.

The Sussexes definitely have permission from HMQ to sell Royal merchandise when they step down and will no longer be using HRH, that’s absolutely been clarified in a statement from Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Collection does celebrity collaborations.

The HMQ will definitely approve of royals doing a collaboration under the royal name with an actress who sells a candle titled This Smells Like My Vagina.

HMQ has already in fact given permission for Buck Palace and Highgrove to sell a candle called This Smells Like Her Majesty’s Vagina.
