I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

Sorry, ignore me - just spotted that whole article had been linked (I tend to just scroll by re-posting of stuff from notorious sites (most of which is utter invented bollocks - with rare accuracy not outweighing the scurrilous fabrication). It does mean I tend to miss things

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 08:26

There must be an element of truth in the DM & blind gossip as they are saying similar things with the gossip site more ‘inventive’

Hyrana · 19/02/2020 08:29

I have been reading from Thread One and not posted but I felt I had to today. There is definitely a few posters who are trying to get threads deleted and I think that Mumsnet should try to recognise the pattern and the posters and deal with them and not delete a whole thread.

Anyway, we are thriving, onwards and upwards! Tally Ho Chaps!

I think it's insulting that they think they can take a royal title and turn it into a brand, particularly when they don't even want to live in the UK. The logo on their website is nauseating too, with the intertwined H and M (although it's the M that is the most prominent). I really hope Queenie puts her foot down.

TroysMammy · 19/02/2020 08:35

I only believe news that's on the BBC website.

YgritteSnow · 19/02/2020 08:55

I saw the news this morning and hoped another thread had been started after the deletion of the last one.

This is a spoke in the wheel isn't it? Good on Her Maj I say.

peridito · 19/02/2020 08:57

I wonder what the position will be about the Duke and Duchess titles .

This placement of first name before title was news to me and interesting ,though I don't follow such things closely .

sources indicated the official titles would change to Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Royal commentators have expressed surprise, as placing the forename before the title has usually been reserved for divorced or widowed titled women. The ex-wife of the Duke of York , for example, became Sarah, Duchess of York following divorce. This is to distinguish them from the current holders of the same title.

peridito · 19/02/2020 09:00

Hyrana -re your concerns about some posters ,I would have a word with MNHQ and they can take action if they feel it's warranted .

Cake and eat it innit. Personally they're not representing the people of Sussex in any way since ostensibly leaving tbe country for good, so I think Sussex should go as well.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 19/02/2020 09:15

Should be Prince and Princess Harry full stop, or it should be associated with some role they take on in Canada. Although I guess being royal they're always Title + aren't they?

FizzyLimes · 19/02/2020 09:15

I’d have more respect for Meghan if she relaunched the Tig.
At least that is 100% her work, and she’s on that trajectory anyway.

I suspect a big SussexRoyal launch was planned on the back of Harry’s Oprah / AppleTV collaboration.
They’ve got a month to go back to the drawing board, and every possible permutation of Sussex is probably being bought / registered right now.

They really didn’t think this through. Far too much assumption that the RF would accept their plans.
(I’d love to know what’s going on in The Big Sussex House this morning. Possibly not a lot of thriving.)

annielouise · 19/02/2020 09:17

Buttery: It's the contradiction between wishing to step back from being primarily royal and fitting in with that system, but also wanting to make money from stuff that literally labels you as royal. Completely agree.

FizzyLimes · 19/02/2020 09:19

@yolofish
Brilliant!

What's that thing about the best laid plans of mice and men?

I have to admit to a slight internal snigger that they do not appear to be getting away with having and eating cake. I think it's a sign of a real culture clash between the US way - hire lawyers! do the PR! hustle! - and the establishment approach of the RF - don't frighten the horses there's a good chap.

I think they might have underestimated HMQ and the rest of the firm, either because they think they are very special, and would be allowed to do whatever they want, or because it never occurred to them that flogging tea towels wasnt a good look.

Taking on the establishment was always going to be difficult.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 09:24

I wonder if in American eyes being Prince H & Princess M would be seen as a promotion rather than as non royal duke & duchess?

yolofish · 19/02/2020 09:25

thanks fizzy!

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 09:26

Genuine question - if other royal households can sell tea towels as yolo’s example then I don’t see why the Sussexes can’t. And I’m not even a Sussex fan!

yolofish · 19/02/2020 09:26

I think you're right Tiara, Prince/Princess sounds much posher than Duke/Duchess, even if we know it's not.

FizzyLimes · 19/02/2020 09:27

I wonder if in American eyes being Prince H & Princess M would be seen as a promotion rather than as non royal duke & duchess?

Oh definitely. Even if she was called Princess Harry, the press would soon call her Princess Meghan.
Although most press I’ve read seem to call them a Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 09:29

Tea towels was probably the wrong example, and I know 'people' will trademark everything they can as a form of protection.

I guess what I was trying to say that their apparent wish to sell themselves to the highest bidders doesn't come across well, and if they drag the RF into it - which is of course their USP - then the RF will be looking to protect its brand.

FizzyLimes · 19/02/2020 09:29

if other royal households can sell tea towels as yolo’s example then I don’t see why the Sussexes can’t

I think sales from the Royal Collection is reinvested into the upkeep of the palaces etc.
Back in the day; Buckingham palace was opened up to pay for the repair of Windsor Castle after the fire.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 09:31

Of course That makes much more sense Blush

RoseAndRose · 19/02/2020 09:32

All the stuff in the Royal Collection is approved.

No reason why, if trading on royal connection, H&M could not seek approval. And then there would be no restriction on selling souvenir items.

Though I suppose that might count as 'half in half out' which is a scenario that has been ruled out

7Worfs · 19/02/2020 09:47

Found you all!

Catching up with the thread, just laughed at

Her Maj doesn’t want them doing the branded vag candle before she does.

Grin
FramboiseRoyale · 19/02/2020 09:49

Prince and Princess of the United Kingdom does outrank a non-royal duke and duchess.
