I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

It’s been a quiet few days, not long til the commonwealth day. I’m thinking spring is March to May.

BackyardChickens · 18/02/2020 22:19

Looks like they have been asked to drop the Sussex Royal stuff? According to DM of course.

StubbleTurnips · 18/02/2020 22:23

Chickens just seen that, I’m surprised but not surprised at the same time. Looks like a relaunch will be coming for the Sussexes.

yolofish · 18/02/2020 22:26

I really really really can't get my head round why anyone would buy a candle called 'smells like my vagina'. I mean, jasmine, or rose, or lily would all be nice names for a candle. Not vagina. Not that there is anything wrong with vaginas of course, but it's not really up there with the fragrance names one would choose is it?

Froq · 18/02/2020 22:29

And where does it end yolo? I’ll draw the line at ‘this candle smells like H’s arse hole’.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 18/02/2020 22:35

Grin I mean I like candles but GPs just no.

yolofish · 18/02/2020 22:37

froq Grin!!!

Gwynnie and Kate Winslet are my two least favourite actresses, just imagine my joy when they both 'died' in the film Contagion.

Up themselves luvvies if ever I saw a pair. Sorry, derailment. Off to read the DM online for fuel for my 'witless and unpleasant' blog!

WeArnottamused · 18/02/2020 22:40

DM is reporting that HQ has told them SussexRoyal is a no go!

Teddies in 3 2 1.............

Froq · 18/02/2020 22:58

So there’s a warehouse somewhere stocked full with SussexRoyal socks and coasters that will never see the light of day?

Grin gosh that Q&A section on their original website was incredibly presumptive of them.

coconutpie · 18/02/2020 23:01

Well done Her Majesty! I'm really glad that she has said they cannot use that as their brand.

DivinationDandy · 18/02/2020 23:19

Her Maj doesn’t want them doing the branded vag candle before she does.

I was surprised this didn't get said to them earlier, and had concluded that the queen and her advisers had chosen not to push it. Evidently there's been a shift to what I see as more logical thinking. It's not for me so clear cut as 'they're not royal anymore' - that doesn't just vanish entirely, nor is it an 'all or nothing' state. It's the contradiction between wishing to step back from being primarily royal and fitting in with that system, but also wanting to make money from stuff that literally labels you as royal. I'll be interested to see the next few moves on this particular issue.

DivinationDandy · 18/02/2020 23:31

Im not reading that article. The word BAN in caps in the article irritated me. That and it being the DM. How certain is the paper that the Queen has definitely BANNED them from using it?

It makes sense that she has, but I find it hard to believe Team Sussex really would have gone to the expense and effort of copywriting the name and setting up websites without having received at least a half-nod from the powers-that-be.

Marginally related - I think they’ll be in LA by the 4th July. Cue some media piece with a photo of them celebrating their own independence on Independence Day.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 19/02/2020 04:01

I feel sorry for the Queen having so much drama to deal with. Must not have felt great to feel pushed into taking this measure. Wonder what name they'll use instead? Sussex Dumbarton?

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 19/02/2020 05:21

Can they still call themselves Duke &Duchess? I presume they could call their brand the D&D of Sussex if so

StartupRepair · 19/02/2020 05:33

I do wonder if they might reflect that they had a generous, massive income and great roles that they have walked away from. It's cold out here in the real world where everything has to be a negotiation.

PelicanPie · 19/02/2020 06:09

I think if true it’s really beginning to sink in at the Palace that Harry and Meghan have gone rogue. I think they probably thought let’s wait and see how it pans out and best not piss them off initially. I now think they are realising real damage could be done to the RF if they don’t close ranks and lay down some strict boundaries. The potential for H and M to dish the dirt and trade off their Royal connections to do tacky and inappropriate things is huge.
There seems to be a big emphasis at the moment on Kate and William. Also Charles. It’s a desperate attempt at damage limitation.
I will be really interested to see if one or both goes to the Commonwealth service. If neither attends, I guess we will really see how the land lies.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 06:54

Valid points pelican

DesdemonaDryEyes · 19/02/2020 07:10

Surely they must attend. But what a media scrum that will be.

GoFiguire · 19/02/2020 07:14

👑 to froq

I wonder what Charles is thinking.

GoFiguire · 19/02/2020 07:18

I’ve missed you all.

ThroughTheRoses · 19/02/2020 07:27

So much for "collaborating" with the Queen! They've gone off half-cocked with this whole SussexRoyal thing, without getting prior approval from HMQ.

I think this is the best outcome for the Royal Family. Now we just need H&M to pay for their own security arrangements for the best outcome for the taxpayer. What will H&M do now (assuming the intimate scented candle market is already saturated)? If they can no longer market themselves as Royal, what's their USP?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 08:08

I assume this is about H&M

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/02/2020 08:18

The branding may have tom change. Thus is attributed to a 'royal source' or just "a source":

“As The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior Members of the Royal Family and will work towards financial independence, use of the word ‘Royal’, in this context, needed to be reviewed. Discussions are still ongoing.”

A source said: “In many ways this is inevitable given their decision to step down, but it must surely come as a blow to the couple as they have invested everything into the Sussex Royal brand.
“The Queen would have had little choice, however. The Sussexes’ original plan – of being half-in, half-out working royals – was never going to work.
“If they aren’t carrying out official duties and are now seeking other commercial opportunities, they simply cannot be allowed to market themselves as royals.’”

The pair might have to face rebranding their website and their charitable organisation – Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
