I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

It's a very defensive statement of facts.

  • While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place.

Insinuating they have not been allowed to do what other RF members have been allowed to do?

  • Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex remains sixth in line to the throne of The British Monarchy and the Order of Precedence is unchanged.

A reminder of his importance? Why is this relevant to what is currently happening, unless it's really just making it clear he's not abdicated from the throne entirely.

  • making it clear how they handled the closing of the office, talking to staff personally.
  • While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas

Sounds like there may have been some truth in the earlier DM article then!

  • The trademark applications that had been filed as protective measures and that reflected the same standard trademarking requests as done for The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Why bring the Cambridge's into it?

It seems like an attempt to address various press reports under the guise of an 'update'. Still with no info on what they are actually going to be doing

Interesting how this is all coming out like a dripping tap... drip drip drip. It's so overwhelmingly disorganised and messy. It's quite clear they had zero idea what they were doing when they released their first statement it Jan and does make them look extremely arrogant.

Poppyfields21 · 21/02/2020 22:35

The whole thing reads as being so scorned, it’s awkward and embarrassing to read!

annielouise · 21/02/2020 22:36

Yes, I agree Rainbow, very defensive and also that there might have been some truth in the DM article earlier about they can use royal abroad, which I didn't think there was.

Not setting up a foundation - could this because they realise the work involved and it would be hard to run alongside the money-grabbing stuff like JP Morgan, they'll be more accountable?

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 22:37

There is a section there clearly stating they are currently NOT making money. So the JPM fee went entirely to charity?

Also one of the revealed BG items was about Meghan making 250k from a private dinner on the SA tour - did this also get funneled into a charity?

Skybluepink123 · 21/02/2020 22:37

Where do they refer to W and K?

CallmeAngelina · 21/02/2020 22:38

Just to hark back to something I read recently about their house-hunt; it was mentioned that they want a house large enough for business meetings and "to host friends."
No mention of hosting family, obviously, but it made me think about what has happened to all Harry's friendships. Have any of them come out in defence of the couple? Is he still even friends with them, and if so, do they mix as couples? Would we even know about it if they did?
Or does "hosting friends" mean Meghan's US mates, and slebs like Serena and Oprah?

annielouise · 21/02/2020 22:39

A really badly thought-out exit plan, just like Brexit.

CallmeAngelina · 21/02/2020 22:40

SkyBluePink:
"- The trademark applications that had been filed as protective measures and that reflected the same standard trademarking requests as done for The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge"

Rainbows8117 · 21/02/2020 22:40

If you run a not for profit organisation, I assume you can still pay yourself a salary from it as it will come under costs of running the organisation? Although I suppose the rules are probably different in US/Canada anyway as I'm pretty sure they won't base it here!

Maybe that's how they plan to earn some money.

Skybluepink123 · 21/02/2020 22:40

The statement seems so sulky and childish. I can’t understand the decisions they make.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 22:41

annie well let's hope we get a better deal than the Sussexes Grin

Skybluepink123 · 21/02/2020 22:42

Thanks CallmeAngelina for clarifying, it just all seems so resentful on their part.

drina27 · 21/02/2020 22:43

.. the most passive aggressive attempt of those two to be 'the bigger person' and take the higher ground than the Queen.

The levels of delusion are starting to worry me - the Sussexes are not OK.

They really are something else. The delusions are getting grander and grander as they sink lower and lower. Poor souls.

Skybluepink123 · 21/02/2020 22:43

Are they creating a foundation or not? They seem to have said one thing in January and another thing now.

FizzyLimes · 21/02/2020 22:44

So wordy and pompous. They must have used Duke and Duchess about 50 times.

Kinneddar · 21/02/2020 22:44

It's a shame The Queen didnt remove their Sussex titles too. They dont deserve them any more & if they're not marketing SussexRoyal the Sussex element should be removed too.

PH could revert to just PH & she could either keep her maiden name or use Wales

They're still very much trying for the best of both worlds

yolofish · 21/02/2020 22:45

It's hard to read that website and think anything other than ugh.

March will be interesting... if I was Meghan I'd develop 'an illness' the day before the flight - thus of course opening the dialogue about is she or isnt she pregnant? Which will get the headlines.

I honestly would not have the brass neck to show up, look pretty, smile adoringly while all this was going on. But then, I'm not an actress.

Interesting blind....

drina27 · 21/02/2020 22:48

No longer ‘collaborate’ with HM but to ‘represent & support’....

Wow. Their minions are scuttling around trying to sort out this sorry mess, succeeding only in creating more utter confusion. And speculation.

ThroughTheRoses · 21/02/2020 22:51

Wouldn't be at all surprised if M is struck down with suspected coronavirus on the eve of her flight back to Blighty!

Rainbows8117 · 21/02/2020 22:52

It very much seems like M cannot ignore any of the negative press and some way or another she has to have her say publicly... either via her friends talking to the press, weird statements on their sites addressing every single point, lawsuits against the papers, PH issuing statements since she was his gf. This can't be healthy at all. Surely part of being in the public eye is you have to find a way to ignore these things. I'm not saying the negative press is all justified, some of it has been a bit much, but you have to pick your battles.

I say M because I do not recall PH reacting to negative press in this manner prior to their relationship. I know it's been clear he has hated the press intrusion but he would on the whole not retaliate to it. Unless I just didn't pay the same attention as i am now. It seems to be every single thing they respond to in someway. But it just fuels the fire even more.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 22:53

There is zero chance Megs is coming back for the last events in March after this.
Harry will come back, and look straight ahead at all appearances, not interacting with the rest of the RF.

yolofish · 21/02/2020 22:53

Having been a PR minion:

Someone will be saying, look this won't work because x y and z, we recommend you do a b and c instead.

The client (H&M) will be saying nah, fuck that we want to do j k l m n AND o right now.

And the agency will be saying, ok we warned you, but you are paying 20k a month so we'll press the button if you say so.

And then they do...

It's actually quite a dangerous game for the agency, in that when it goes tits up it will obviously be their fault, not the client's.

But the money is probably worth it for a little while, and then you can put the whole issue into one of your crisis management case histories about how you advised against but the client was determined.

Cynical, moi?!

Duckyneedsaclean · 21/02/2020 22:54

They just sound like absolute twats, don't they?

FelicityFebruary · 21/02/2020 22:55

Awful.
