I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

dandy we were at Albert Hall gigs too! still love EC, Imperial Bedroom is a magnificent album IMO. Also, his dad (Declan McManus) did the R Whites Lemonade ads which brings us full circle back to Beyonss!!!

mpsw · 20/02/2020 22:18

Bon Jovi was/is incredibly popular squaddie rock and a damned fine choice for Invictus.

PH did a fair amount utterly unsung and publicity-free for injured personnel.(as well as public support) so I have always seen him as utterly sincere.

Which is why I found it hard to believe he would cut loose from the important dates in the Marines calendar (and I've no idea where the Lion King one sat in terms of importance)

The texts look hammy (rather than wooden) and I can't imagine what audience they had in mind

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 20/02/2020 22:28

I find it a little amusing that M&H officially begin their new life on April Fools Day. HMQ has a sense of humour.

GoFiguire · 20/02/2020 22:32

HMQ dropped the mic on that one

Boom 💥

DivinationDandy · 20/02/2020 23:01

lol at “and I've no idea where the Lion King one sat in terms of importance”.

The texts were hammy, just the disclaimer was wooden.

Oh yolo we may have been there at the same time! I remember EC saying hello had a sore throat (the things that stay with you!!) but singing a Capella beautifully for ages at the end of a really long concert. Not many singers could have done that.

yolofish · 20/02/2020 23:10

dandy did you see him at the Cats Whiskers (I think it was called in those days) in Streatham? We could well have been at the same gig, it all goes a little blurry with encroaching age. Albert Hall acoustics were amazing, I do remember Tramp the Dirt Down.

Also saw Tracey Chapman there, must have been soon after Live Aid, and being really shocked that there were real lesbians there, holding hands and having a lovely time. I'd never seen openly gay people out and about before that.

DivinationDandy · 20/02/2020 23:12

No I didn’t see him there. And yes the acoustics at the Albert Hall were amazing.

yolofish · 20/02/2020 23:12

I've never really understood 'dropped the mic' what does it mean?

(thanks from elderly person!)

thenightsky · 20/02/2020 23:13

I've never really understood 'dropped the mic' what does it mean?

I want to know that too.

drina27 · 20/02/2020 23:17

I love your conversation!

drina27 · 20/02/2020 23:22

Happier times...

DivinationDandy · 20/02/2020 23:28

I’ve never seen that video before. It’s cute.

From Wikipedia:

A mic drop is the gesture of intentionally dropping one's microphone at the end of a performance or speech to signal triumph. Figuratively, it is an expression of triumph for a successful event and indicates a boastful attitude toward one's own performance.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mic_drop

yolofish · 20/02/2020 23:41

Aw I love HMQ, possibly because DD2 gets soppy about her.

Thanks dandy for drop the mic translation that makes sense now!

"I did GOOD, top that everyone!"

SussexRoyalties · 20/02/2020 23:45

I always thought it was a churlish way of saying F U (as in when you literally drop the mic).

Andylion · 21/02/2020 03:11

Do teens know who Jon Bon Jovi is? I was a fan when I was a teen, back in the dark ages..

Springsteen is even older, 70, and he performed at the closing of Invictus Games in Toronto.

katiegoestoaldi · 21/02/2020 03:47

I saw Bon Jovi in 2010 when they did a very long stint at the O2. They couldn't fill the stadium and were giving tickets away for free, that's how I got to go 😁 It was a great show but even with the mass giveaway of free tickets it wasn't full

According to BG another 80s (solo singer) is having the same problem

JBJ does A LOT for charity, I'm not surprised he's on board for Invictus

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/02/2020 09:05

Do you think Meghan might surprise us all by coming out to sing a few lines with Jon Bon Jovi? I've read somewhere that she has a very good singing voice.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 09:10

That’d be interesting, if she can sing it would be some good PR, as long as she doesn’t over egg the pudding with theatrics and trying to hog the limelight.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 21/02/2020 09:13

I like her outfits so yes I’m all for it!

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/02/2020 09:27

If I were Meghan, I'd get Harry to join JBJ on stage first - game but not that great at singing - and then I'd come out, looking like a million bucks, and really sing.

7Worfs · 21/02/2020 09:34

Nah, I wouldn’t make it look like JBJ and Harry are Meghan’s warm-up, very bad optics.
Just singing, with a nice solo for M to really belt it out, no showmanship from her, this is JBJ’s job.

WinnieTheW0rm · 21/02/2020 09:36

JBJ is singing with the Invictus choir. At the recording in Feb, nothing yet announced for the Games in May

I can see why he's a good fit with the military, and why the song Unbroken is a good choice.

JBJ and veterans with the Prince (patron) - excellent (despite the dreadful 'texts')

It would be totally tone deaf for the non-patron to attempt to upstage. Which is what a stage appearance would do. If that's even occurred to them, it wouid be to discard the idea, surely
