Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 17:12

yolo that makes you very much better than H&M. I take my 🎩 off to you.

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 17:15

Tumnus thank you for sharing Smile

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 17:18

What sticks in my throat and I’m sure a lot of people’s is the statement regarding working towards financial independence.

Yes, and also the fact that they are only actually giving up 5% of their income. Royal watchers have worked this out, but most people take that information at face value and think they actually mean it.

7salmonswimming · 08/02/2020 17:24

yolo

Yes, it does.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/02/2020 17:33

It is the sheer self importance and expectation levels that offend me.

Yes to this.
I have just been watching PA at the Rugby. Awful weather, she's dressed in ordinary clothes with a very downmarket handbag. Cheerful, enthusiastic and involved. Shaking all the players hands. This is what the RF should be doing for their money.

7salmonswimming · 08/02/2020 17:34

myimaginary

The nub of it, and this is what MM doesn’t understand and what H understands too well and is trying to run away from (seeing MM as his Knight-ess in shining armour) is that H was born into the RF. He’s trapped. He will never be independent of them. He cannot take any meaningful, independent actions without ex-communication because what’s at stake is more important than just him. He’s not free and he never will be.

Perhaps you make yourself comfortable in your gilded cage and settle into it (Eugenie, Beatrice, whoever). Perhaps your ideals are one and the same as the RF’s and you’re happy where you are (Anne). Perhaps you struggle with it but eventually give in/up and see the upsides (Charles? William?). Perhaps you respectfully disagree and go your own way without jeopardizing what you’ve left behind (the Kent wife who became a piano teacher).

Harry is thrashing about, trying to work it out. MM has saw an opportunity, played her biggest hand and won - but she doesn’t know what the stakes are. She’s finding that out now. If she can’t make it work the way they’re trying now, her “love for her husband” will be in no way bigger than her love for her freedom and herself and she will walk away.

peridito · 08/02/2020 17:39

LaM - I'm happy to say you are right ,I honestly wasn't trying to make an issue of it .

I said in my orginal post about the timing of my remark AFAIR because I wasn't 100% sure

Obviously my memory was wrong and I'm sorry .You questioned the timing and I did scroll back but not far enough ,which I know is unusual for me but I didn't think it was that important

Sorry again ,honestly .Credit where it's due and all that ,you were right and I was wrong .

yolofish · 08/02/2020 17:41

Sadly salmon I think you are right that she will walk. She's a hustler, as you have to be in her industry, and she's hustled a huge prize - but the prize is only worth it if they both stay in the RF.

Outside, as someone else said upthread, what does H have to offer? A couple of years max talking about mummy, mental health, military and Megs. No great background to give him the ability to make inspirational speeches, no massive achievements ditto.

It is actually really sad, they could have been a great force for good if they'd stayed inside the fold.

I cant see the British public welcoming them with open arms - look at the reception Camilla got. I suppose M is younger and prettier than Camilla though, maybe that makes a difference. OTH, M "stole our Harry" and took him away...

It's all just such a bloody mess.

OP posts:
peridito · 08/02/2020 17:55

imaginary I take your point ,the amountof money that has gone to H from the DoC is quoted as in the region of £2m .

Personally I think it quite likely that Charles has upped the allowance .I guess my view will be met with derision but Charles has loads of money and it's not unbelievable to me that he wants to support his grandson .

There were numerous very nasty remarks on this thread about H&M ,I can't see how they can be viewed in any other way .

derxa · 08/02/2020 18:00

I keep mentioning my royal heroine Princess Anne. At the moment she's sitting at Murrayfield watching the Scottish rugby with the rain teaming down and a howling gale. God bless her

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 08/02/2020 18:04

Derxa

At least Scotland have points on the board so Anne will be happy.

derxa · 08/02/2020 18:07

It's a bloody strange game alliwant

peridito · 08/02/2020 18:07

imaginary do they give 5% of their income to charity ? How is this known ?

NothingWrong · 08/02/2020 18:08

I was looking at what Princess Anne was wearing and thinking to myself - she's going to be bloody perished!

derxa · 08/02/2020 18:11

It's unlikely to be Givenchy Grin

rockingchaircandle · 08/02/2020 18:13

Myimaginarycathasfleas

Your post assumes you speculate about what is fact. Not true at all. No one was arguing about whether they were at JP Morgan or not!

So I don't understand your examples. Most of the discussion is about what you can't know (opinion), and often the worst possible motives are attributed to everything.

My argument is that this spiteful speculation is not harmless for many reasons, including the fact that it fuels the media cycle that causes harassment of people like Meghan by the press in the first place.

As far as humour is concerned, no-one is saying this is a source of ground breaking comedy You claimed it was pythonesque! Sometimes some stuff is amusing, often its childish. Fair enough, but it's not in the same league as MP. The eulogy works because they obviously loved him so much, and wanting to shock is not the same as just being spiteful.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 08/02/2020 18:19

‘Derxa’ we have been having wind gusts of over 70 mph so can only imagine what it is like to be playing in anything like that.

yolofish · 08/02/2020 18:27

I bloody love Princess Anne - now she is an example of being the spare, not the heir and sucking it up. I think she's a very private person - would have zero truck with talking about her mental health - but she gets on with the job as she sees it. (Disclaimer, I used to work for one of her ladies in waiting, who also said she was a workhorse and a trojan)

OP posts:
annielouise · 08/02/2020 18:41

No one is claiming it was in the same league as MP. Just that it isn't distasteful as per what peridito was claiming given the extent MP were seen by some as pushing boundaries of what is acceptable, especially at the time LoB came out.

MyImaginary said it was pythonesque, as in in the manner of, or spirit of, which I agreed. Having the next thread title as "He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy" is not distasteful (or spiteful as you seem to be saying) given one of the MP's deaths recently, as per peridito. Given what they were about I can't see how on earth it would offend them. LoB was banned in countries for years.

You're nitpicking.

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 18:57

annie You have the patience of a saint, typing up things that to my mind anyone reading the thread would have understood...

I am baffled that we have so many misunderstandings that require so much repeat and explanation of words and their meaning

rockingchaircandle · 08/02/2020 18:58

Annielouise

Nitpicking! Smile another word for 'disagreeing with me and I don't like it'. Great we've agreed it's not in the league of MP and I'm saying the humour in general is often spiteful.

I would agree with 7salmonswimming's assessment of the RF as trapped. Just not the final paragraph. But the privileges of the RF are increasingly hollow. I think that makes me more sympathetic though.

annielouise · 08/02/2020 18:59

Haha, 7Worfs, peridito and rocking do this a lot - waste time. I'm only painting doors right now so got the time to waste too Grin

I meant to say well done on "eternal peridito" earlier- I think that was you.

Butterymuffin · 08/02/2020 19:05

Given the genius of Monty Python I don't think it's surprising to say something isn't in the same league. Most things aren't. They can still be pertinent and / or funny. Let's scroll on move on.

I’ve also put in my time in the voluntary sector. Spent three years on a board as director (unpaid) and one year as the ceo of a children’s charity. Took industrial workers salary, as we couldn’t afford anymore, worked 75 hours a week, and raised 2 million in three intense month’s fundy drive.

I know what it’s like to stand up and ask people for money, but to take a penny of it for myself was an anathema.

I don’t understand how anyone could line their own pockets and put in for expenses, etc etc, when you know every penny counts and is so badly needed.

From my perspective M and H have fallen far far far from grace, and have really exposed their venal side. The hypocrisy is galling.
I find them repellent actually; that whole virtue signalling, golden circle jerk is absolutely disgusting.

I wish them well, but I think there’s a door in my heart that has closed on them now... to my mind they’re just in it for themselves and their pet Insta-projects, and neither of them are remotely qualified to promote anything, except veterans’ issues, and washed up / distressed actresses.

The lower they fall, the higher Kate and Will ascend though, so there’s a silver lining I guess.

Lovely work done today Will with heads together, if anyone from KP is reading this, and gives a hoot!!!

TheNavigator · 08/02/2020 19:05

Princess Anne is hardly a modern saint for taking up the offer of a free ticket to the rugby. It is a perk, not a hardship and everyone else will have had to have paid their own hard earned cash to watch rugby in the rain.
