Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

I'm not OK, I just went outside for a fag and was thinking of HMQ. She will be devastated when Phil goes - even though he's retired etc. C&C will step up to mark, as will W&C, and I think Sophie Wessex would be a great comfort to her. But really, all these years doing their duty and I know he's a dreadful man in lots of ways but sterling in others... I think it will finish her off.

So the last thing she probably needs is the GS and GDIL playing silly buggers!

yolofish · 17/01/2020 23:12

I'm still loving the are you OK thing btw! krinns I think it conveys a real sense of caring, of the mutuality of our human spirit, of how we can all do great things for one another.

kinsss · 17/01/2020 23:14

Got a feeling that I don't care anymore.

But wish them well just the same. Time to back off and do your own thing...

Supersimkin2 · 17/01/2020 23:15

I'm not OK, now there are barely any royals left I feel dead sorry for Camilla who will now have to work a bit harder which will come as a frightful shock, poor old girl must be nearly 80.

Haworthia · 17/01/2020 23:19

There's def something fishy about the RAF/Heathrow incident though??

Definitely fishy. I did a bit of Googling and apparently the aircraft flew to Hamburg?

Can’t imagine it had anything to do with the RF, though.

kinsss · 17/01/2020 23:19

@yolofish,

I do not agree. it is childish and ridiculous and it is is just something that is followed and repeated for the sake of it.

threecee · 17/01/2020 23:19

One person of note is leaving ! what are you talking about, when did the rest of them die ? I must have missed that.

colouringinpro · 17/01/2020 23:20

ok totally mental speculation time now (I have had Wine). Definitely Russian influence in EU Referendum campaign and subsequent weakening of position of UK in the world.

M&H are being funded in Vancouver by someone who has a links to the Kremlin. Chaos in RF (on top of the PA debacle).

Is the UK under serious attack?

Or have I watched too many Bond films???!!! Grin

Prince Philip Death Rumour on Twitter

WHY would "Protocol" dictate that they would delay announcing this until 8am Saturday? Confused

LOVED one of the responses to this, which was "Didn't he die ages ago?2 Grin

I suspect Americans fail to understand that when British people ask "Are you OK?" they really don't expect an honest answer. Unless one really is OK or better, preferably tip top form thank you.
Anyway my DH woke me up coughing at 4am and I barely got back to sleep before my alarm went off. I haven't asked him if he's OK because I know it won't be a short answer. I've gone into the back bedroom for a peaceful night. But he did ask me if I was OK before I shut the door. Grin I'm fine, really, not even grumpy, just a bit tired. Wink

yolofish · 17/01/2020 23:24

childish and ridiculous re the OK thing... krinss you nailed it, I am both of these things! Are you ok hun?

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/01/2020 23:25

I think announcements have been fairly prompt when other senior royals died ( Queen Mother, Diana etc.), within a few hours, so yes, we would have heard if he died this morning, surely?

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 23:26

Well kinss we will have to disagree on that.

If people want to ask one another if they're okay, the fact that you think it's childish isn't going to stop them.

Oh and yolofish - my tits are not in the least bit magical.

I mean, yes, they produced a good deal of milk over the years but they failed the pencil test spectacularly.

Nowadays they are very much past their sell-by date.

yolofish · 17/01/2020 23:31

oh no mustress that must be such a trauma... how are you going to cope? will you be ok? have any tit experts asked if you will be ok?

going forwards (as I believe they say in North America) have you considered asking each breast if it (they?) are ok?

anyway, I've done my compassion bit for the night, off to bed! sweet dreams princesses...

ThroughTheRoses · 17/01/2020 23:32

Have H&M trademarked the
SussexRoyal Magic Boobs Bra already, or is that still erm "up for grabs"?

kinsss · 17/01/2020 23:33

It is the repetitive shite of I'm OK, Are you ok, No one asked if if I'm ok, that makes me laugh.

MarySidney · 17/01/2020 23:34

I think announcements have been fairly prompt when other senior royals died ( Queen Mother, Diana etc.), within a few hours, so yes, we would have heard if he died this morning, surely?

Only reason to delay that I can think of would be if a senior member of the family was abroad and couldn't be contacted. But that's unlikely with modern communications.

When the late king died, of course Elizabeth was abroad, and the accompanying press pack knew before she did.

GlorianaCervixia · 17/01/2020 23:38

I see they’ve included a picture of Meghan with her old nose in that article about the Russian billionaire. Amazing what a difference it makes.

The Daily Mail are desperate to know who owns that house on Vancouver Island. They’ve written multiple articles about it.

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/01/2020 23:39

MarySydney I can only think of one who's abroad and I can't think they would be a priority to inform? Especially as time zone is behind, not ahead?
Unless any of them are still in Oman?

Butterymuffin · 17/01/2020 23:48

Can't imagine the Phillip rumour is true for the reasons given. He's only just been seen around Sandringham so the 'passed while in Scotland' report is not going to be true. Plus there could be all sorts of other political reasons why the RAF needed 'unplanned' space at Heathrow, and I can't see why they'd A) need to fly his body anywhere and B) why they'd need to do it so quickly.

Lunde · 17/01/2020 23:52

I think that security costs are going to be a huge sticking point in the negotiations. I don't think that the Royal Protection Squad is dimensioned for 3 RF members living permanently outside of the UK - it is going to cost a fortune. Visits and tours for a week or 2 take huge planning - but this is going to be so much more

Just look at this week - I bet H&M's security has been pretty stretched

  • Harry in London carrying out official engagements + security
  • Meghan taking security off for surprise engagements which had not been fully risk assessed with security
  • Archie and the nanny need security
At the moment they have no home base with the type of basic security installed at other Royal residences

There are going to be huge numbers of officers required to cover 23/7 + covering leave and days off. Probably between 25-40 in teams. They will presumably have to work a pattern of 2-4 weeks in Canada and then time off as they will not be able to commute home easily. It will not just be the salary costs of the RPOs but

  • costs of flights for the protection teams
  • travel and accommodation for RPOs in Canada as away from home
  • costs of new security for any new home
  • costs of security upgrades to vehicles

.. or will their security be downgraded like PAs?

MarySidney · 18/01/2020 00:03

The RAF thing may have been a training exercise, perhaps, for some purpose which they won't make public.

I think everyone who was in Oman is back, and anyway I don't suppose there'd be any difficulty contacting anyone there.

Just been looking on YouTube, where there's newsreel footage. The king died in his sleep during the night, and the announcement came from Sandringham at 10.45 in the morning. So not much delay.

Butterymuffin · 18/01/2020 00:11

I had also thought that security would be the main sticking point @Lunde but once it's spelled out in those terms you realise exactly how difficult it will be. I can't see how it can be done. Don't know if any comparable protection officers could be sourced in Canada or if that just creates more headaches.
