Sounds like the sort of thing Queen Mary would have said, according to old accounts, but she was the most shameless kleptomaniac - helped herself to any little antique knickknack she fancied when staying in other people's ancestral homes. The staff have been given other roles is my understanding mainly the house manager and the cleaner. The other staff were called in when needed.

Also it's hardly a cottage, it's a sprawling mansion. It's not escape to the country thatched roof, 2 bedroom and newly installed ensuite.

I imagine if they return they will just be guests in some royal apartments somewhere.
